“Oh, shit,” Liam breathed out. “Noah, I’m sorry. I forgot that we had a meeting tonight. Did you hear about what happened to Delta Theo-“
Noah cut his brother off.
“I don’t give a shit about Delta Theodore,” he seethed.
I flinched.
How did I date Noah for two years?
I had looked past Noah’s selfish, cruel, and arrogant nature. Time seemed to have made his bad attributes even worse.
“Your secretary told me that I could find you at the hospital and when I saw you guys, I was about to call your name. Then I heard something very
interesting,” Noah continued.
I swallowed nervously when I noticed his hands were shaking.
“When?” Noah demanded in a tight voice.
“What do you mean?” Liam asked, edging to the side, wanting to put himself between Noah and me.
“When did you knock her up?”
“Watch the way you talk about Ella,” Liam warned.
Noah let out a harsh laugh.
“You don’t get to be the good guy here, Liam. You slept with my girlfriend. That’s against bro code.”
“Noah, you’re the one who cheated on me. And that was years ago. Why does it matter now?” I asked.
My words seemed to anger him more, but I didn’t care. Noah was acting like I was his property. Like I was a car that he had loaned to his brother that Liam ended up crashing.
“When?” Noah asked his brother again. “When did you have sex?”
Liam didn’t answer his question, but held his hands up.
“You’re right. I’m not the good guy in this situation. There’s a lot you don’t know about the history between Ella and I, but I should have come to speak with you before anything happened with her. Why don’t you and I go discuss this outside?” Liam said calmly and took a step toward Noah.
“It was the night you caught me in bed with Makala, wasn’t it?” Noah said, his accusing gaze swinging toward me. “You left the party, went to my house, and then fucked Liam to get back at me. Didn’t you?”
“Noah, that’s not how it-“
But Noah was done with me. His right hand clenched into a fist and he raised it. His sole focus on Liam.
“And you! You let her seduce you. You, asshole!”
Noah came barreling at Liam with a look of rage.
I didn’t even have time to react. Liam pulled me behind him as Noah flew at him with his fist cocked back. Since Liam chose to get me out of harm’s way, he didn’t have time to defend himself.
Noah’s punch landed squarely on the side of Liam’s face.
Liam POV
Pain exploded across my left cheek, but I didn’t even feel it. Adrenaline coursed through my bloodstream.
Calm down, I said through mine and Noah’s mind link-a power that allowed shifters in the same pack to converse telepathically. Let me explain.
Noah cursed loudly and shook his hand out. His body began to violently tremble.
He was beginning to shift in his wolf form.
“No, Noah! Not in here!” I yelled, glancing around the small hospital hallway.
If Noah shifted here, he could hurt someone. He could even kill someone. My stomach fell just thinking about Ella or my son getting injured.
My son.
Those words seemed foreign to even think. How could I ever say them out loud? Of course, over the years I’d imagined having kids with Ella if she ever found it in her heart to forgive me for breaking our bond, but my brain would conjure up images of newborn babies, not a beautiful boy who could walk, speak, and think for himself.
But there was no time to think about the tawny-haired boy that I had seen. I had to get Noah out of here before he shifted.
“No! You’re not shifting in here!” Ella screamed and darted past me to push Noah’s chest. “Stay away from my son!”
But Ella’s words only spurred Noah’s transformation on. His canine teeth began to elongate, and his nails grew into sharp claws.
Wildly, I looked around for another exit. Since this was a shifter hospital, there were many emergency exits for this exact scenario. But the closest emergency exit was on the other side of the hall.
Noah bowed over, his spine curving. In a matter of seconds, he would be in his wolf form.
Without thinking, I tackled Noah, fighting to hold onto him as he struggled against me.
