The determined smile she’d flashed before driving off – composed and crisp, yet utterly captivating – had seared itself into his memory.

Why was it that after the divorce, he was the one left feeling unsettled?

*****

Several minutes earlier, a sleek black sedan had pulled up outside the Courthouse.

“Any updates?” Eugene’s deep voice resonated from the back seat.

In the front passenger seat, Bruce was still coordinating with the Shadow team, his phone pressed to his ear. They had just managed to track Mr. Caesar’s whereabouts after an intensive digital pursuit, finally pinpointing his location to this very area.

But just as they arrived, the signal vanished.

Mr. Caesar’s trail had gone cold – again.

Bruce turned toward Eugene and reported quietly, “Mr. Rosewood, we lost the signal. We were seconds away from locating him.”

Eugene’s eyes turned to ice.

Bruce fell silent, the tension in the vehicle thickening palpably.

So close. If Mr. Caesar had remained online just moments longer, they would have had him.

But his evasion skills were formidable – every time they closed in, he slipped through their grasp like digital smoke.

“Mr. Rosewood, Dark Web intelligence confirms Mr. Caesar is currently somewhere in Capaville, though we lack precise coordinates.”

Eugene’s expression remained unreadable, but his gaze grew colder. Just then, the roar of a powerful engine cut through the silence.

He glanced out the window in time to see a vibrant sports car slide to a perfect stop directly in front of the Courthouse – and right before a familiar woman.

Recognition flickered in Eugene’s typically impassive eyes.

Victoria.

The same woman who had appeared at Eve Restaurant days earlier.

He remembered how she had caught Landon’s attention that night. They had run a background check on her immediately, but the results were disappointingly ordinary – far too plain to explain the compelling confidence she had displayed.

A country girl who married into wealth.

The young lady of the Myers family – who would willingly give up such a position?

Yet Victoria had her lawyer deliver divorce papers right there at the restaurant. And now, here she was at the Courthouse – likely finalizing that divorce.

Observing the scene, it was clear the divorce was indeed complete.

Eugene frowned, surprised at how much mental space he was dedicating to this woman.

He had instructed Bruce to dig deeper through Dark Web channels, but the results mirrored Landon’s – nothing beyond the superficial.

Still just an ordinary woman.

Now, Victoria turned away from Carter, ignited the engine, and accelerated with practiced ease.

With one glance, Eugene could tell – her driving was polished, almost professional.

He rolled down the window slightly, watching her car merge into traffic. As if sensing his gaze, Victoria glanced toward his vehicle from behind the wheel.

Their eyes met briefly.

In that split second, Eugene could have sworn he detected pure, unadulterated annoyance in her expression – before she looked away and disappeared into the flow of cars.

Had he truly done something to offend her?

“Mr. Rosewood, it seems the CEO of Myers Group is quite the charmer,” Bruce remarked. “Fresh out of a divorce, and already there’s another woman waiting to comfort him.”

Eugene heard the comment and glanced toward the Courthouse entrance.

Indeed, there was Carter – newly divorced, yet already with another woman clinging to his arm right outside the building. The scene looked almost theatrical.

Was this the man considered a suitable partner for Cosmos Group? Did he truly deserve that distinction?

Eugene’s voice turned icy. “Let’s go.”

Bruce had been about to add another quip, but hearing Eugene’s tone, he immediately signaled the driver to depart.

The black sedan, which had arrived without fanfare, now slipped away just as quietly.

Meanwhile, Carter remained rooted in place. Victoria had long since driven off, but he hadn’t moved an inch.

She really left just like that.

They were divorced now.

And she was probably off celebrating!

Logically, he should be the one feeling triumphant, while she ought to be devastated – perhaps even crying her eyes out. Yet reality seemed to have reversed their roles.

“Carter?” Isabella called softly, noticing his dazed expression. He didn’t even flinch.

A flicker of irritation passed through her. She had seen how Carter’s eyes followed Victoria’s retreating figure, how he had almost stepped forward instinctively. It was clear Victoria still held some place in his heart.

If that was the case, she’d better accelerate her plans.

Isabella glanced meaningfully at Jenarth, who immediately understood. He walked over and took Carter’s hand.

“Daddy Carter, I’m hungry. Can we get something to eat? I’ll buy you fried chicken!” Jenarth said with practiced innocence. “I was really good today – Mommy gave me pocket money and said I could have fried chicken. Let me treat you, okay? I have enough for lots of fried chicken!”

Carter finally snapped out of his trance at the child’s voice. He looked down at the sweet, seemingly considerate boy before him. Moments earlier, his mind had been filled with thoughts of Robert and Victoria, but now those concerns faded slightly.

“Jenarth, you don’t need to treat me. I will take you for a proper feast.” He lifted the boy into his arms. “How about seafood?”

“Yay, that’s awesome!” Jenarth clapped his small hands, eyes sparkling. “Mommy, can I really have seafood?”

Isabella gave Carter a helpless look. “Carter, you’re spoiling him too much. What will he do when you’re not around?”

“I don’t want to leave Daddy Carter! I never want to leave!” Jenarth became agitated, wrapping his arms tightly around Carter’s neck. “I only want Daddy Carter!”

Carter glanced at Isabella and shook his head gently. “Don’t say things like that in front of him. Children take such words seriously.”

“Sorry, Carter… My mistake.” Isabella lowered her head contritely.

“I’m not going anywhere. Jenarth is the best boy.” Carter’s voice softened with affection.
