His harsh words hit her like a rock. Fear gnawed at her insides. She would have collapsed right there if Xavier had not held on to her.

She had underestimated how much Jeremy cared about Alyssa. Her attempt to paint Alyssa black had backfired, turning her into a joke once more.

Peace returned to the corridor after Liana was dragged away.

“Bro, despite everything, I’d like tocongratulate you.” Landon was glad that Jeremy had returned to the right track and placed a hand on his shoulder.

Landon added, “It’s not too late to come around, no matter how long or how badly you’ve been lied to.”

“Is it not too late?” Jeremy smiled in defeatas his shoulders trembled dejectedly. Why did he feel that it was too late?

Liana attracted stares from the hospital staff when she was dragged toward the entrance. Her ego was the last thing she cared about because she had nothing left to lose.

“Ouch!”

Xavier and the bodyguard let go of her at the same time. She fell onto the g round in disgrace.

“Dude, do you have a napkin?”Xavierasked the bodyguard.

“Sorry, Xavier. I don’t.”

“Ah, well. I’ll ask the nurse for somealcohol swabs later. We’d better disinfect our hands after touching that filthy thing. “

Xavier spat in Liana’s direction. Then, he headed back to the hospital with the bodyguard.

Through sheer coincidence, two claps of thunder roared in the night sky. It started pouring a few seconds later.

After going through consecutive setbacks, Liana sat blankly on the ground. She lost the energy to stand up in the rain.

Her carefully styled hair for the birthday party was a mess. The makeup on her face was like a mix of spilled paint.

“Jeremy, I am your savior. How could youdo this to me, you heartless thing?”

Sobbin g loudly, she slapped the puddles on the ground. The action splashed dirty water across her face.

She even broke her manicured nails and yelped in pain.

At that moment, a black Rolls-Royce came to a stop at the entrance and splashed the puddle of water all over Liana. The water even got into her mouth.

“Bleh!Don’t you know how to drive?

Didn’t you see me?” She looked like a madwoman in the pouring rain when she barked at the car to release her anger,

Amid her scolding, the driver emerged with a black umbrella and politely opened the rear door.

Silas was the first to em erge and took the umbrella from the driver.

The back of his shirt was drenched in the rain because he shifted the umbrella closer to the door. Next, Jonah calmly left the car and shared the umbrella with his brother.

Despite the gloomy weather, the brothers looked majestic, like the figures of a famous painting.

Liana trembled violently when she saw the Taylor siblings. She held her tongue. Her wet face flushed in anger and shame.

“Ms. Gardner, this is not where your dadis hospitalized, is it? You are crying at the wrong place.” Silas couldn’t hide his grin at the sight of the woman who was drenched in rain.

“Let’s go, Silas. Lyse is waiting for us.”Jonah was only concerned about Alyssa and gave Silas a gentle pat on the shoulder as a reminder. They ignored Liana and walked past the doors.

“Alyss a Taylor, how could you receive lovefrom everyone when I get nothing in return? Even Jeremy has abandoned me for you. How? How?”

A flash of lightning illuminated the frightening scowl on her face.

“One day, I will end you with my ownhands. I will!”

…

Alyssa finally coaxed Lauren back to sleep. She caressed Lauren’s smooth cheek with a heavy heart and sighed. Lauren was shocked by the events of the night and was wiped out.

She tucked Lauren in and wandered to the door of the room worriedly. She immediately ran into Jeremy when she opened the door.

He stood straight in front of her in his impeccable suit, but he somehow felt downcast and dispirited.

She frowned at him. Her gaze slowly traveled down from his face. He wore an exquisite and shiny gold dragon lapel pin that stung her eyes.

The lapel pin was her Valentine’s Day gift to him in the first year of their marriage. She designed the pin and picked the materials on her own. The lapel pin was encrusted with two top-grade rubies.

The effort she poured into the lapel pin rivaled Jeremy’s effort in preparing Crimson Heart for Liana.

She smirked at the thought. Her eyes darkened. He finally wore the lapel pin that he had once cast aside.

His action was absurd and ironic, no matter how she looked at it.

“I’ve asked Liana to leave. She will notbother me anymore.” Jeremy stared into Alyssa’s unfeeling eyes and swallowed hard.

“Is that so? Congratulations, then. At leastone good thing came out of tonight’s debacle. You got rid of a trouble.” Alyssa flashed him a sarcastic smile, like a proud and thorny rose.

She continued, “I know you are an expert at wrapping up romantic relationships. I wonder if Ms. Gardner has received her 20 million dollars and a villa?”

Jeremy felt as though he was physically struck by the flash of purplish lightning outside the window. His shoulders were trembling, and his chest was numb from the pain.

He was again reminded of the cruel scene where he threw the divorce papers at

Alyssa. He stubbornly wanted to escape from the contract marriage without thinking about the hurt he had inflicted on her.

His action almost destroyed her pride and ego.

The tear-stained divorce paper remained tucked away in his headboard storage.

He was afraid to picture Alyssa’s heartbreak on that day when she signed the paper alone after he abandoned her for Liana like a jerk.

He felt like he was stabbed in the throat, and his heart almost shattered into pieces. He might have been wronged by many in his life, but Alyssa was not one of them¡ªloving him was not wrong.

Even if he did not love her in their marriage, he shouldn’t have disregarded her feelings and broken her precious heart.

There was no way of piecing her shattered heart back.

“Mr. Gorham told me you saved Grandpain the golden hour through acupuncture. Thank you,” he croaked.

“You don’t have to. He’s my grandpa, too. Now, please make way for me.” Looking down at the floor, she refused to engage with him and decided to leave. However, he stood in her way and towered over her.

“Don’t stand in people’s way. Where areyour manners?” She gritted her teeth and flared up.

“Alyssa, I want to make it up to you.”Jeremy fixed his burning gaze on her.”Tell me, what can I do to make it up to you?”

“Are you sick in the mind? Why don’t youget your brains checked since you’re at the hospital?” Smiling with furrowed brows, she felt that his words were an affront.

“I was wrong to hurt you.”

“Stop.”She irritatedly gestured.”Jeremy, please stop apologizing to me. I’m sick of hearing your apology.

“By the way, I have gotten over it. Youwere not in the wrong for loving Liana and wanting to marry her. You were only being loyal to the true love of your life and did nothing wrong from the start. It was me who fell in love with the wrong man.

“Anyway, I’d only make that mistakeonce. I v ow never to trip over the same stone twice.”

Jeremy’s eyes reddened as he curled his shaking fists. He was shamed and crucified by her pointed remarks.

Indeed, the two of them fell in love with the wrong person. Alyss a learned her lesson and decided to let go and live her life. In contrast, he sank deeper into remorse and guilt over his sins.

“Lyse!”

Alyssa turned around when she heard someone calling her name. She saw Jonah and Silas walking to her from the other end of the corridor.

“Jonah! Silas!” The sorrows in her eyeswere gone in an instant. She knocked aside the frozen Jeremy and flung herself into the embrace of her brothers.

“I’m hungry! Jonah, can you make supperfor me at home?” She held onto Jonah’s arm and pouted.

“Me too! I’m hungry. Please feed me!”Silas mimicked her action and held onto Jonah’s other arm. They were transported back to their childhood at that moment.
