POV
After Mr. Patterson left, Shane shut the front door and looked at me with doubtful eyes. He is worried about Mr. Patterson’s other proposition, just like me. “Dad…” he started talking, looking at my parents…
“Don’t you dare even open your mouth to reject that sponsorship, Shane… This is like winning a lottery. Who else would come to our house and gift us such a fortune… Don’t be so stupid!” before he even continues what he wanted to ask, mom, interrupted him. “But mom…” he tried again to speak, but this time it was dad who stopped him.
“Should I remind you how much we have to spend on your education and football? Since you have started football, we have spent a fortune to take you where you are today. I had to spend all my life savings on your university fees.”
“I haven’t asked you to send me to that university…” Shane replied annoyingly.
What he said was true. He didn’t want to go to Queen’s at all. But my parents wanted that so badly. After I got the scholarship to study there, they wanted Shane to study at the same university as I am… Getting someone to enroll in a Queen’s degree program is super hard. With Shane’s poor academic performance, it was even harder… So dad truly had to spend a lot…
“If you didn’t go to Queen’s, you would not become such a goalkeeper… Do you think in other small universities they have such a strong football team?” dad yelled at him.
Shane didn’t reply because what dad said was also true. Playing for Queen’s team paved the way for his success. He received all the required facilities and training from the university to improve himself.
“Dad everything you told is true… Please give me a chance to explain…” Shane said after a pause.
“There is nothing to explain Shane… We can never have a better deal than this.” dad said firmly.
“Dad, please understand… I can get an opportunity in a big club on my own. I can find sponsorship as well… Mr. Patterson is not a good guy. He definitely has some hidden agenda behind helping us. If we accept his offer, we will be in huge trouble later… That’s why I don’t want to go ahead with his offer. ” Shane explained.
“We don’t care what is his hidden agenda… Also, I don’t think he has some hidden agenda because he openly said to us what he wants from us.” mom said.
“What?” both I and Shane looked at them with shock. So Mr. Patterson actually wants to make a deal with my parents. He doesn’t even want to pretend like helping us… He has openly discussed that deal… He thinks so highly of him, and he is really confident of himself, right?
“He brought a proposal for Sarah… He wants to marry her…” mom replied in a casual voice.
What the hell!!!!
I was cleaning the dinner table while listening to them, and I almost dropped a plate…
“Are you kidding? What the fu**” Shane screamed.
“Shane is that the way you talk to your mom?” dad yelled at him.
But I don’t think Shane even heard what he said. He looked at me, and our eyes met for a second…
Then he shook his head in disbelief…
I was not just speechless, my whole body felt dumb… He wants to marry me? He clearly knows I am in a relationship with Jake… How dare he come and discuss something like that with my parents without even telling me first. He wants his revenge from Jake, and he is using me to get what he wants. Now he has even drawn my family to this…
If he was near me, there is no doubt I will choke him to death.
“I thought we would never be able to get this one married, we should actually be happy that someone like Mr. Patterson wants to marry her… I don’t even know what he sees in her… ” mom said, looking at me with a disgusting look.
Shane looked at me with so much pain in his eyes…
My eyes filled with tears in a blink of a second. Not for sorrow, but for anger…
I was so angry with Mr. Pattterson. Now my mom’s words made me even angrier.
“I don’t want to marry him,” I said firmly.
Mom laughed like she has gone crazy.
“Why? Is Mr. Patterson not matching to your status?” she asked sarcastically.
“What do you think of you, bit**? Do you think a prince will come and marry you?” she then yelled at me.
“Mr. Patterson is a prince in a way… He is from the most powerful family in the country. We should be actually honored such a person came to our house.” dad said in a calm voice.
“Of course… I don’t know how such a handsome man even noticed a piece of sh*t like you. You don’t even suit to be a maid in his house.” mom said angrily.
As always, she is trying to break my heart, make me cry, and do what she wants. But this time I can’t let you win, mom… I would kill my self than marrying that crazy rascal.
Totally ignoring mom, I talked to dad…
“I will never marry him, dad… Even if I have to stay alone my whole life, I won’t marry him…” I said while tears running down my cheeks. My parents have already decided to get me married to that bastard. Without even asking me, they have taken that decision on their own… Like I don’t even own my life…
“Really? You won’t marry him… Say that again you, ungrateful, filthy bitch…” mom jumped to me and dragged me from my ponytail…
“Mom!!! What the hell are you doing? Are you crazy?” Shane ran to us and drew mom away from me.
“Yes, I am crazy… Since this bit** born, I am crazy… She has given us only troubles in her whole pathetic life. This is the only good news I have ever heard about her. Now she is saying she can’t marry him… Just like dad said, he is a prince… He is super-rich, powerful, and handsome… What else you need bit**? Why can’t you let us stay in peace at least now?” mom was crying and scolding…

I was standing there in front of them like a statue… The way that bastard came to my house and talk about my marriage without even letting me know and the way my parents think about me has shaken me to the fullest… Is there any value in my life to any of them? Am I just an object, they can do whatever they want?
“Sarah… Use your brain… He is a good guy… You must be really happy that a guy like him wants to marry a poor girl like you. Just think, if he wants you he could get you by any means… But he came to us like a gentleman and talked with us. You indeed so lucky to have someone like him.” dad said calmly.
