Lucas stretched a hand toward Benjamin. “Viresso Balm.”
Benjamin gave him a look and pulled a small jar from his pocket, placing it into Lucas’s palm.
Lucas turned back to Abigail, sitting beside her, and carefully began applying the ointment to her fingertips.
Samson and Benjamin watched the scene unfold with wide eyes, as if seeing a ghost.
Samson glanced from Lucas to Abigail and thought to himself…
Did Lucas get possessed or something? Should we call a priest?
The ointment was cool and soothing, and Abigail could tell just by the smell that it was made from rare and precious herbs.
But at the moment, her attention was completely captured by Lucas’s hands.
Those hands were works of art. Slender and strong, with pale, well-proportioned fingers and sharply defined joints, exuding a quiet elegance. Even something as mundane as applying medicine became mesmerizing under his hands.
Abigail grumbled inwardly.
Why couldn’t these hands be mine?
She then looked up at Lucas’s face and thought…
When God created him, he clearly didn’t intend for anyone else to compete.
Ahem!” Samson cleared his throat when he saw Abigail staring intently at Lucas. “Ms. Gibson, your performance today was truly outstanding!”
Abigail’s gaze sharpened slightly. She glanced meaningfully at the mess of overturned water cups in front of Samson but said nothing.
Samson, unbothered by being caught, scratched his nose sheepishly and asked, “Ms. Gibson, were you serious about that song pulling out the inner demons of the wicked?”
Benjamin, who was holding a cup, also paused and looked at Abigail.
Abigail could not help but laugh, her eyes sparkling mischievously. “I was bluffing.”
Samson and Benjamin exchanged a look, but the sensations they had felt were undeniably real, as vivid as if they had truly been thrown onto a battlefield.
“It’s just a song,” Lucas said lightly.
Abigail looked at him with a hint of admiration and did not hide the truth. “Exactly. It’s not as mysterious as I made it sound. It only briefly disrupts one’s mental focus. As long as your mind is strong enough and you block your ears quickly, you’re fine.”
She stood up. “Even if you don’t, no need to worry. The song is short, and once it ends, everyone wakes up.”
She had stumbled across that ancient music score in her master’s private library and practiced it out of curiosity. She only knew this short excerpt.
“Ohh,” Samson said, suddenly enlightened. He turned to Lucas. “No wonder Lucas was unaffected. His willpower isn’t human.”
Hearing Samson’s words, Abigail turned again to Lucas, studying him carefully.
“You weren’t affected just now?” she asked.
“Among the three of us, only Lucas stayed completely conscious,” Benjamin confirmed calmly.
Abigail suddenly leaned down in front of Lucas, cupping his face in her hands so he had no choice but to look into her eyes.
Lucas was momentarily stunned by her abrupt closeness. His deep black eyes locked with a pair of mesmerizing violet pupils.
Like a dream. Enchanting and captivating.
Unconsciously, Lucas leaned in even closer. Their faces were practically touching.
“Holy crap!” Samson nearly fell out of his seat when he saw the ambiguous pose between the two.
Even Benjamin was stunned where he stood.
Just as Abigail thought she had succeeded, a warm hand suddenly covered her eyes.
“Young lady, stop learning such nonsense,” Lucas said coolly, sounding completely clear-headed.
Samson pulled a strange face when he heard this. But after thinking about it, it made sense. Abigail was only eighteen, while they were already twenty-five. Compared to them, she was practically a kid.
So, Lucas’s indulgence toward her… was it simply because he saw her as a child?
Abigail brushed his hand away, her purple eyes back to normal, and glared at him in frustration. “You actually resisted my charm spell?”
Samson perked up instantly. “Wait, wait, you were casting a charm spell on Lucas? Try it on me! Come on, try it!”
Abigail turned her head and looked at Samson’s bright, expectant eyes. She blinked.
If he had a tail right now, it would definitely be wagging.
Before she could answer, a large hand covered Samson’s face and shoved him aside. “Get lost,” Lucas said bluntly.
Samson slumped back down with a defeated look, as if he were about to cry. “Not even a trial…”
“You’d fall for it immediately. Your willpower’s too weak,” Abigail said mercilessly.
Samson’s expression froze. He retorted stubbornly, “What do you know, little girl? I’ve eaten more salt than you’ve eaten rice!”
Abigail blinked innocently. “Then you’d better keep eating more salt.”
“You little brat…” Samson was so mad he stomped his foot, pretending he was about to grab Abigail by the collar. But a single cold glance from Lucas froze him in place.
He pouted and flopped back into his seat, grumbling, “Lucas, you’re playing favorites!”
Lucas ignored him and turned back to Abigail. “Has the Gibson family made arrangements for you to attend school?”
The sudden question caught Abigail off guard. She had not even thought about going to school since returning home. She shook her head blankly. “No.”
“Hmph, they pulled out all the stops to get Daniella into Stonebridge University back then,” Samson said with a snort, clearly taking Abigail’s side.
While Lucas was still in a coma, they had already investigated Abigail thoroughly, including all the shady secrets the Gibson family tried to hide.
Abigail, however, remained unfazed. She was already used to being treated like dirt, while Daniella, the adopted daughter, was treasured like a gem.
“Do you want to go?” Lucas asked, focusing only on her wishes.
