Her gaze, cold as ice, locked onto Boone.
The blood-drenched scene made Boone’s legs go weak. He turned to flee, but Abigail, like a phantom, was on him in a flash. She grabbed his arm, using his own momentum to hurl him hard toward the swimming pool.
With a loud splash, Boone crashed into the water.
Flailing in the water, he barely managed to lift his head, only for Abigail to pick up the bamboo pole she had prepared and, without hesitation, thrust him back underwater.
“Help! Help!” Boone screamed in terror, thrashing wildly, coughing, and choking on mouthfuls of water.
He had specifically ordered the pool to be filled to the brim just to prank Abigail. Now, he was paying for it.
Nearby, Daniella watched the scene unfold, her face going pale with fear.
She shrieked for help, “Someone come! Help! Save him!”
Seeing Abigail with her back turned, her eyes rolled quickly, and she screamed, “Abigail, don’t be like this! Boone might die!”
Then she threw herself at Abigail.
But Abigail moved like she had eyes in the back of her head. With just a slight twist, she easily sidestepped.
As Daniella tried to halt herself, Abigail kicked sharply at the back of her calf. Daniella’s legs gave out, and her entire body toppled toward the swimming pool.
She landed squarely on the just-surfacing Boone, and the two of them sank under together again.
“Help! Glug…” Daniella shrieked, clutching at Boone’s neck, climbing onto him in panic.
Pitifully, just as Boone had managed to breathe, he was dragged down again, swallowing another mouthful of pool water.
Hearing the commotion, Helen came running.
When she saw the two struggling figures in the pool and Abigail holding a bamboo pole, she screamed, “Abigail! What are you doing?!”
Seven or eight servants immediately dove into the pool to rescue them.
Abigail felt it was about time. She casually tossed the bamboo pole aside.
Before long, the two were dragged out of the water.
Boone was as pale as a sheet, gasping for breath, his whole body battered and soaked.
Daniella was not much better. Her hair hung in wet tangles, her body was shivering violently, and her eyes were filled with terror and shock.
Helen threw herself at them, heart aching, checking first Boone, then Daniella, her mouth cursing nonstop. “You vicious little wretch! You want them dead, don’t you?!”
Abigail watched all of it coldly, her voice detached. “It’s just a few mouthfuls of water. No one’s going to die.”
Hearing those words, Boone shivered. Those were the very same words he had said earlier.
“You’re out of control!” Helen’s eyes turned bloodshot with fury. “Someone, bring out the family law stick and punish her!”
The servants, having just witnessed Abigail kill a wolfhound bare-handed , hesitated, clutching their sticks, not daring to move.
Seeing this, Helen screamed even louder, “What are you all standing around for? Beat her!”
Abigail crossed her arms in front of her chest, her face utterly fearless. She spoke slowly, “Tomorrow is Daniella’s birthday banquet. I don’t mind showing up covered in bruises.”
Helen’s face twisted.
Tomorrow’s banquet had important guests from all walks of life. If anything shameful happened, the Gibson family would become a laughingstock.
By now, Boone had recovered somewhat. Wiping the water off his face, his eyes burned with hatred. He shouted, “Mom, we can’t let her off! Lock her up tomorrow! Let her scream for help with no one to hear her!”
Abigail shot him a lazy glance and said, drawling, “Sure. While you’re partying downstairs, I’ll provide the background music upstairs. It’ll be unforgettable.”
Daniella hesitated. Tomorrow was supposed to be her perfect day. She did not want anything ruining it.
She whispered to Helen, “Mom… if the Hawthorne finds out we locked up Abigail, it won’t look good.”
After all, Abigail was still Lucas’s fiancée. She represented his reputation, too.
At that, Helen finally wavered.
Abigail herself was nothing. She was a wild girl from nowhere, but Lucas was someone they could not afford to offend.
Abigail smirked. Who would have thought she would one day use power to bully others?
She deliberately scared Helen, “Imagine if Lucas finds out you beat up his fiancée and humiliated him… What if, in a fit of rage, he crushes Gibson Group?”
Thinking of the miserable ends of those who had crossed Lucas, Helen’s face went ghostly pale, her body trembling uncontrollably.
Seeing how easily she had been frightened, Abigail lost interest. She waved her hand dismissively and turned away. “Since you’re not going to beat me, I’ll be leaving.”
Boone, watching her retreating figure, cursed after her, “Abigail, you just wait! Once the Hawthorne annuls your engagement, I’ll make you wish you were dead!”
Abigail paid him no mind and calmly walked toward her room.
Once inside, she dialed a number. “Did you find the people I asked for?”
A reply came quickly.
“Good. Protect them in secret. Tell them… I can help them get justice for their dead loved ones.” Abigail’s eyes gleamed coldly. This was the ‘gift she had prepared for Boone.
Daniella’s eighteenth birthday banquet arrived as scheduled.
No matter what outsiders thought of Lucas and Abigail’s engagement, as long as the engagement existed, the Gibson family still commanded respect.
So today, more guests arrived than expected.
Somehow, Helen even managed to invite Mason.
At the moment, Daniella clung sweetly to his side. Even though Lucas had already woken up, and Mason no longer seemed so important, she did not mind keeping an extra option around.
Seeing this, Marshall grinned so wide his eyes nearly disappeared. In time, the Gibson family’s status in Stonebridge would surely climb higher.
The Gibson brothers bustled among the guests, toasting left and right, spirits soaring.
