In frustration, the color drained from Sheryl’s face. Julien shoved her aside roughly.
*Jeremy, it’s only been a few days since you woke up. Are you that desperate to replace your old lover with someone new?”
Julien’s eyes reddened with anger. He was burning with fury. “Did that small issue with your brain awaken that jerk within you? You’re having an emotional disorder, not amnesia. Don’t you know that Ms. Alyssa Taylor is your girlfriend?
*Even if you no longer have any love for her, don’t you still have your morals? How could you be getting involved with another woman in broad daylight when you have an actual girlfriend? Are you even human?”
Sheryl took a deep breath. Maintaining that same gentle posture of hers, she said, “Dr. Lovelace, you’re mistaken. I was just helping Mr. Jeremy with his tie. I’m afraid you’re being overly sensitive and making a mountain out of a molehill.’
“He can do it himself. Or, if not, he has Mr. Hall. Why would it even concern you?”
Human attraction was fascinating. Julien’s initial impression of Sheryl was unfavorable-he found her insincere. Furthermore, he had heard from Jonah about the Walsh family dynamics. Justin and Jeremy, bom of different mothers, had a strained relationship. Given Sheryl’s allegiance to Justin, Julien became increasingly wary of her.
“Dr. Lovelace, I’ve set things straight with Ms. Alyssa.”
Jeremy pursed his lips so tightly that they turned pale. In a deep voice, he clarified, “We have gone our separate ways.’
A shocked expression came across Julien’s face. He stumbled a step backward. “What did you say?”
Stepping aside with a seemingly calm look, Sheryl lifted the corners of her lips very subtly.
“We’ve gone our separate ways,” Jeremy repeated in an even colder tone.
“What the heck… You bastard!”
Julien charged forward and grabbed Jeremy by his collar. The knuckles on his hands turned white. “Lyse wasted her youth, lost a child, and sacrificed so much for your sake.
“Her heart is shattered, and her body has crumbled from all that stress. She threw up blood just an hour ago and was sent into the ICU. She’s still unconscious as we speak!
“Even if you don’t love her, don’t you feel any sense of responsibility? How could you say that you no longer want her? What the hell is wrong with you?”
He had been trying his best to trivialize this matter these few days so as not to make Alyssa sad or remind her of her sorrow.
He knew that the people around them were anxious, terrified, and worried. These worrisome emotions would only amplify her suffering and, consequently, make him feel even more terrible.
Despite everything, anyone who had witnessed the growth of their relationship could understand the pain of losing a loved one.
How could they accept it? They used to be so passionately in love. Right now, Jeremy was saying that he no longer loved her. How could anyone take that?
Upon hearing that, Jeremy frowned deeply. As bizarre as it was, a plethora of emotions surged within his eyes. “She… threw up blood? Because of me?”
*Jeremy, you should pay Lyse a visit if you still have a heart.”
Julien took a deep breath to force himself to simmer down. All of a sudden, he released his grasp on Jeremy’s collar.
“Even if you no longer have any feelings for her, the memories you share are still in your mind, aren’t they? She was once someone you vowed to protect. You went through so many difficulties to be with her. Yet, you’re leaving her now… Do you truly not feel any pain in your heart?
“Are you not afraid that it would too late for you to regret it one day?”
After saying that, Julien turned around and stormed off.
Too late to regret…
Suddenly, Jeremy’s vision turned blurry. He was overcome by an immense pain. In that instant, he felt as if his head had become an oversized balloon that was about to pop!
“Mr. Jeremy, what’s wrong? Where does it hurt?”
Sheryl rushed forward to hold him, but was brushed off fiercely by Jeremy, who was breaking out in cold sweat.” Nothing. I’m fine!”

After leaving the hospital ward, Julien ran to the balcony, fuming. He dialed Jonah’s number.

Initially, Julien had suppressed his emotions the best he could. Yet, the moment he heard Jonah’s rich-sounding voice, he broke down.
“I can’t take it anymore… I feel really bad for Lyse!”
“Don’t cry, my love.”
Jonah quickly comforted Julien in a warm, slightly throaty voice, “I know you care for Lyse. So do we. Don’t worry. She had acute bleeding in her stomach, but she’s already awake now.
*According to the doctor, it was caused by her irregular eating habits on top of being too heartbroken and consuming too much alcohol. Moreover, Lyse already suffers from gastritis. It’s a condition that she developed as a result of having irregular meals when she used to work as a medic on the battlefield.”
Julien was astounded. “Lyse… has been on the battlefield?”
*She was with Doctors Without Borders at Luminara that year when they were at war. She saved a good number of citizens and soldiers from the Peacekeeping Forces.” Jonah’s voice contained heartache and an inexplicable feeling of pride when he mentioned these.
“Oh my god… How is it that you Taylors have such big hearts? Luminara’s political situation was unstable. Not only was there war, there were also a number of terrorists wreaking havoc. As a woman, Lyse went to such a faraway place and dove into dire straits every day. How was it that all of you could bear to see her do that?”
Jonah stayed silent for a moment. Then, he took a deep breath and answered in a shaky voice, “We couldn’t bear to see her there either. But she was so fixed on pursuing Jeremy that she wanted to follow him wherever he went. None of us were able to stop her.”

“Jeremy used to be a soldier with the Peacekeeping Forces. He was once dispatched to Luminara for an important mission.” Jonah’s voice tensed up. “Lyse only applied to go to Luminara so that she could see him. She almost didn’t make it back…
*Jeremy doesn’t deserve her… That brat doesn’t deserve Lyse’s love at all!”
Julien’s captivating, sharp eyes turned red with anger. He slammed his fist onto the railing on the balcony.
*After he regained consciousness, he’s become an absolute asshole! I happened to bump into him being all lovey- dovey with that Dr. Gillis, the female doctor who hangs around Mr. Justin. I gave that brat a slap and scolded him for being a jerk. Then, he actually told me that he and Lyse have gone their separate ways!”
As Julien said that, tears started streaming down his face again. He choked with even more emotion, “Jonah, truth be told… With the way Jeremy is acting right now, I’d very much rather have him dead!”
*Julien…
“Lyse could only watch as he distanced himself from her even though he was just right before her eyes. She even has to bear with him getting close to other women.

Julien pulled a handkerchief out and wiped his tears. “When I’m done with work… I’ll visit Lyse at the hospital.”
‘No worries. It’s fine if you’re only able to make it another day. Lyse is still weak and needs to rest properly anyway.”
*Jonah, it’s your birthday the day after tomorrow.”
Julien sniffled. A blissful smile came across his face as he looked at the wedding ring on his ring finger. “You know me. Unlike you, I’m not always able to come up with unique surprises. Just tell me what you want…”
Jonah chuckled softly. It was as if he could feel his fervent breath even through the phone call. He replied, “In that case, don’t work overtime the day after tomorrow.”
Julien blinked. “That’s all?”
In a deep and gruff voice, Jonah elaborated, “Then, clean yourself up and wait for me.”
‘Fuck, I knew it! You’re a bastard!” Julien cussed. At the same time, he blushed. He had already lost his heart to Jonah.
The skies lit up with a bright red glow as the sun set.
Driving a white Ferrari alone, Sheryl arrived at Seaview Manor.
In the study, Justin sat at his desk, engrossed in the art of calligraphy. The ink flowed gracefully over the paper, inscribing the words, “Spring adds new life and new joy to all that is.”
His strokes flowed like a river. They looked to be full of life and endless vigor.
“Mr. Justin, Jeremy has been discharged.”
When Julien came to Sheryl’s mind, she became enraged. “That Dr. Lovelace is such a hindrance. Because of Alyssa, he slapped Jeremy and shoved me at the hospital today! He’s not a man at all, that bugger!”
With a slight smirk on his face, Justin spread out a new piece of writing paper. “Why, does it make your heart ache to see Jeremy getting hit?”
