“You mean Boone getting hauled off?” Abigail blinked innocently, then nodded. “Yeah. I saw it.”

In fact, she had come just to see it happen.

“You okay?” Jill asked carefully.

“Me? Fine.” Abigail shrugged. “That’s Daniella’s brother. If anyone should be upset, it’s her.”

Jill grinned mischievously. “Serves her right. She paraded around like a show pony – now she’s a public disaster.”

Cameron frowned a little at the remark, glancing at Abigail. After all, she was a Gibson too.

But Abigail looked completely unfazed. She gave Jill a nudge. “Aren’t you supposed to be registering today? Go on.”

Jill’s smile collapsed. “Ugh, don’t remind me. Special admissions results got delayed, and now I’ve gotta check in all alone.”

Cameron coaxed her for a bit until she finally sulked her way toward the school gates. Before leaving, she turned back and waved, her tone extra sincere. “Abigail! I’ll see you on campus. If anything happens, you call me first, got it?”

Abigail nodded with a soft smile, watching her disappear into the crowd.

Once Jill was gone, Cameron turned to Abigail, his expression serious. “Abigail, this whole mess with the Gibson family today… I think you should head home.”

The police weren’t just “asking questions.” They had an arrest warrant. Boone’s guilt wasn’t just rumor anymore.

“Alright.” Abigail didn’t argue.

After all, she couldn’t wait to get home.

She had front-row seats to the next act of this drama.

Adrian rushed back to the Gibson estate, and Marshall, who had already heard the news, had returned from the office as well.

“What the hell is going on? Why would the police take Boone away for no reason?” Marshall’s eyes were wide with fury as he looked at Conrad and Adrian the moment they stepped through the door. His voice was tight with barely restrained anger and anxiety.

Adrian stepped forward, his face serious. “Dad, the police said Boone’s suspected of dangerous driving that caused serious injury.”

Helen collapsed onto the couch the moment she heard it, covering her face as she sobbed. “That’s impossible! Boone would never do something like that! Someone must be framing him. You have to think of something – please!”

Her eyes were filled with despair and helplessness, tears slipping through her fingers nonstop.

Conrad’s face turned red with rage. He began pacing back and forth, shouting, “I knew someone was targeting the Gibson family on purpose! Probably one of those business rivals. They see us doing well and pull some dirty trick like this!”

Marshall let out a cold snort, his gaze sharp. “Now’s not the time to talk about that. Adrian, you’re a lawyer. What do we do?”

Adrian paused, thinking for a moment. “The most urgent thing is for me to go to the station and speak to Boone in person – hear what he has to say. At the same time, I’ll have the top legal team at the firm conduct a thorough review of the evidence the police have. We should also start our own investigation into the case, see if we can find anything that could help Boone.”

Conrad jumped in immediately, “I’ll start calling people too. I’ll use every connection I have if I have to. We’re getting Boone out no matter what.”

Marshall’s eyes darkened. “If this isn’t handled right, the Gibson family’s reputation will be ruined. The company’s stock is going to take a hit too.”

And with everything else going wrong at the company…

Everyone’s expressions grew more grim. Marshall let out a heavy sigh. “Let’s focus on getting Boone out first. We’ll deal with the rest later.”

Adrian continued, “Boone was arrested right outside Stonebridge University. He’s a top celebrity – this news has definitely already spread. Things are not looking good for us. We need to get the PR team on it now. Handle this quietly and avoid making it worse.”

Marshall nodded. “This needs to be handled by professionals. Get in touch with Boone’s agent. They’ve dealt with situations like this before – we haven’t.”

Helen sobbed, “What about Daniella? She’s probably being affected by this too at school…”

“Enough with the crying,” Marshall said sharply, his headache clearly worsening. “Right now, the best thing she can do is stay put at school and not cause any more trouble.”

Frightened, Helen covered her mouth and didn’t dare make another sound. The tears kept falling.

Abigail had been home for a while already, standing silently in the doorway as she listened to their discussion.

It was only then that Helen noticed her – and immediately turned all her rage on Abigail.

“You jinx!” Helen’s eyes were bloodshot as she screamed at her like a rabid animal. “Ever since you came back to the Gibson family, nothing good has happened! First you dragged Boone and Dani into that accident, and now Boone’s in jail – it’s all your bad luck!”

Abigail stood motionless, her face calm as she listened to the insults.

Helen shrieked, completely hysterical, “Get out of the Gibson family! This house doesn’t want you!”

Marshall stepped in to stop the hysterical Helen. He turned to Abigail and spoke as if tossing her a scrap, “Abigail, if you still want to stay in the Gibson family, you’d better help us figure out how to get Boone out of this mess.”

Abigail looked straight at him and gave a faint, unreadable smile. “You must be joking. If none of you can fix this, what exactly do you expect me to do?”

“You can go ask Lucas for help,” Adrian said quickly, eyes locked onto her with a sense of urgency that brooked no argument. “You’re still his fiancée. Right now, he’s the only one who can help the Gibson family through this. As long as you ask, with his power, he can make sure our third brother comes out of this untouched.”

“Yes!” Helen latched on to that idea like it was her last hope. She rushed over and grabbed Abigail’s arm so tightly her nails nearly dug into her flesh. “Go to Lucas. As long as he agrees to help, Boone will be fine. The company won’t take a hit either!”

Abigail stared coldly at the red marks on her arm and asked in a calm, almost emotionless voice, “And if he refuses?”

“Then you beg him until he says yes!” Helen snapped. “Give him whatever he wants. And if that doesn’t work, we’ll go public and pressure him with public opinion!”

Seeing Helen spiral out of control, Marshall finally stepped in. “That’s enough! We’re tied to the Hawthorne family through marriage. If Abigail goes to ask, Lucas won’t just sit back and do nothing.”

His eyes flicked over to Abigail like she was a product on a shelf, as if weighing whether the trade was worth it.

Abigail chuckled at herself. She already knew this family only cared about power and gain, yet still felt the need to ask. She looked down at her arm, where Helen had grabbed her, and said slowly, “You’re hurting me.”

Helen was startled by the iciness in her gaze and instinctively let go, though she still snapped back, “What’s wrong with you? This isn’t the time to be petty. Boone is suffering in there, and you’re really just going to sit back and do nothing?”

“So, my so-called family is willing to destroy me… just to save Boone.” Abigail raised her head and slowly scanned the faces in the room. Her voice wasn’t loud, but it was sharp and cold as ice. “And I’m supposed to just go along with that?”

Marshall’s face turned red with fury, the veins on his forehead bulging. He pointed at Abigail, his voice a threat. “The Gibson family gave you a roof over your head. We fed you, clothed you. Now it’s time for you to repay us. If you won’t, then don’t blame me for what comes next. Once those videos get out, you’ll be going to prison just like any other murderer.”

Abigail let out a laugh. “Go ahead. I’d love to see which court takes your doctored videos seriously.”

Marshall hadn’t expected her to know the footage was fake. His face twitched with panic before he forced himself to stay calm. “The videos are real. Otherwise, why would you have willingly locked yourself up in a mental hospital five years ago?”

Helen, who had been quiet, blinked in surprise and quickly joined in, “Exactly. Don’t be stupid. Go to Lucas like you should. Do it, and you can save yourself and Boone.”

Abigail was unmoved. “No. If you want him saved, figure it out yourselves.”

She turned and walked upstairs without looking back, tossing out one last cold sentence. “You want to leak the video? Go ahead. I’m waiting.”
