Abigail raised an eyebrow. “You’re asking if I want to go, but what if I can’t get in?”
Stonebridge University was the top university in the country, with countless academic elites and cutting-edge resources.
Every year, countless aspiring students, carrying their burning dreams, flock to the entrance exams of Stonebridge University. However, the exceedingly high admission standards and the rigorous examinations deter many from even attempting.
Not to mention, the admissions for this year had already closed.
Lucas gazed steadily at her. “Do you think you would fail?”
Abigail smiled without answering.
Samson swirled his wine glass and said nonchalantly, “If Marshall could manage it, it’s even easier for Lucas. If he says the word, getting you a special admission slot would be a piece of cake.”
“Special admission?” Abigail’s interest was piqued.
Lucas explained in a low voice, “Although the regular entrance exams are over, Stonebridge University offers some special selection opportunities every year. Students who excel in academic competitions, have significant research achievements, or possess recognized special talents may still qualify for admission.”
“Even if you get a special slot, you still have to pass strict exams,” Benjamin added, shooting a glare at Samson. “You think Stonebridge University just lets anyone walk in?”
As far as he knew, Abigail had grown up in the countryside and had even been forced to drop out of school during middle school. Sure, she had ranked at the top of her class before dropping out, but that was years ago. There was no way she could catch up on all those lost years of knowledge in such a short time.
Samson, reminded of this, scratched his head anxiously. “Then what should we do? Should Lucas just throw money at it like Marshall did?”
Though given Lucas’s influence, that was certainly within his power.
“No need,” Lucas said calmly, as if he was certain Abigail could pass. Instead, he turned to her and asked, “You should start thinking about which major you want to study.”
Abigail actually took the question seriously.
Medicine? She already had a master, and her master had once said that few in this world could teach her anything new now.
“Architecture, then,” Abigail finally decided.
Lucas nodded slightly. “Architecture is an excellent choice. Stonebridge University’s architecture school ranks among the best in the country, with many renowned professors and cutting-edge facilities.”
Abigail smiled. “Since you think it’s a good idea too, let’s go with that.”
“Hey, hey, hey!” Samson felt like he could not keep up with the pace of the conversation.
It’s settled just like that? What about the entrance exams? Is Lucas really going to cheat for her?
Benjamin, on the other hand, grew even more curious about Abigail. A woman who could make Lucas go to such lengths was rare indeed.
Just then, there was a knock at the door.
Samson got up to open it and found Marshall and several heads of the Gibson family standing outside.
“Mr. Samson, is Mr. Hawthorne inside?” the Gibson family head asked obsequiously. “We apologize for our poor hospitality. Would it be possible for us to come in and offer our apologies in person?”
Downstairs, although the guests seemed to be mingling normally, many were actually sneaking glances at this room, paying close attention to the situation.
Samson gave a lazy chuckle. “Wait here,” he said, then promptly shut the door in their faces.
“Lucas, go on, hit them with your ult! Ugh, you’re hopeless. Let me do it,” Abigail said, grabbing Lucas’s phone and curling up in a corner to continue the mobile game herself.
When Samson came back, he was utterly baffled. He had only gone to open the door. How had he missed so much? How had they started playing games?
And more importantly, there was actually someone in the world who dared to call Lucas ‘hopeless’!
Samson looked at Benjamin, the two exchanging bewildered glances.
It did not take long for Samson to piece together what had happened.
Abigail had been bored and started playing a mobile game. Midway through, she got thirsty, handed her phone to Lucas to hold for her, and asked him to keep playing. Unfortunately, Lucas had never played Honor of Kings before and caused her character to get killed.
“First Blood!”
“Double Kill!”
“Penta Kill!”
Exciting in-game sound effects kept ringing out from Abigail’s corner.
Hearing this, Samson immediately got excited and ran over to sit next to her.
Abigail was currently controlling Diao Chan, battling fiercely in the map.
Abigail’s slender fingers danced swiftly across the screen. With a quick dash from her second skill, she dodged the enemy’s key control abilities, then unleashed her ultimate move, ‘Flowery Potential.’ In an instant, pink petal effects bloomed across the screen as Diao Chan twirled gracefully within the magic circle. Seamlessly weaving her first skill, ‘Explosion of Fragrance,’ into her ultimate, she dealt massive damage in a fluid, dazzling combo that left the spectators stunned.
The enemy heroes’ health bars drained rapidly. Kill after kill, she dominated the virtual battlefield.
“Victory!” The opponents surrendered.
Samson excitedly whipped out his phone. “Abigail, come on, let’s play a match! Let me show you how slick I am with Arli!” He said as he eagerly launched the game.
Abigail glanced at his stats, then smiled and agreed, “Alright.”
Just then, a knock sounded at the door.
Benjamin looked helplessly at the two already engrossed in their phones. “Samson…”
Waving him off impatiently, Samson said, “Ah, it’s just the Gibson family head wanting to apologize to Lucas or whatever. Don’t worry about it.”
Then, he buried himself back in the game.
Benjamin sighed and resigned himself to handling the matter outside.
Lucas frowned slightly as he glanced at the two heads huddled together but ultimately said nothing.
Bonding over the game, Abigail and Samson ended up adding each other as friends, even planning to team up again sometime.
Later, after the banquet ended, Daniella locked herself in her room, refusing to come out no matter how much Adrian and the others tried to comfort her. It was not until Helen solemnly promised to ‘take care of everything’ that she reluctantly emerged.
Helen, a woman of considerable means, quickly spun the narrative. Tales of Daniella’s stunning piano performance spread like wildfire, while Abigail’s zither performance was conveniently omitted. Those who had attended the banquet tacitly went along with the cover-up.
From that point on, Daniella’s reputation as a ‘piano prodigy’ was firmly established.
