“Here we are.” Callum stopped abruptly, and I looked up in amazement to see a large forest.
The deep woods of the night are thick and quiet. The sparse starlight filtered through the dense layers of leaves, reflecting spots of light on the lake. The lake in the deep forest lies in the center. The calm surface of the lake was rippled by the breeze.
“Master?” I looked at the beautiful scenery in front of me and looked at the silent Callum. His eyes were half dark in the night, but I felt a strange oppression.
“I’m disappointed in you, Jane. You have to be strong to do what you want to do.”
Callum finally spoke, but his words pierced my heart like a sword. I looked at the man who had saved me three times, and my mind went blank for a moment. I blinked my eyes, only to find myself suddenly in tears.
But Callum didn’t let me go. His hands loosened and I fell to the ground before I could stand.
I suddenly lost the strength to stand up and could only look up at Callum in pain.
Why? Why would you do this to me after I started trusting you?
“I don’t want an explanation,” Karal says, looking at me coldly, took my hand to help me to my feet,
“You need to find your breaking point, Jane,” Callum said.
He took my hand and walked to the lake.
The water was cold at night. I stepped into the lake in my white bathrobe. The water was like a black crystal. It was cold. My face was reflected in the water.
Slowly, the water rose from my shins to my knees, drowning my white robe and reaching my waist. The cold makes me shiver. I hugged my shoulders and moved forward numbly. The water runs through my skin, taking away the last of my warmth.
What’s he doing?
The water level of the lake is almost up to my chin. I shivered and stopped. The wide, Silent Lake around me suddenly made me think that I had been abandoned by the world. Callum seems to have abandoned me too. My tears silently into the lake.
“You’ve always been better at putting up than fighting,” Callum says. He was expressionless, dark as a shadow, but still he spoke those cold words, “The world will not be better for you because you put up with it. You have to learn to be angry and fight. Especially in the palace, everyone will treat you according to your strength. You must prove yourself worthy of the Queen’s Crown.”
“Or would you rather be a loser without wolves all the time?”
For a moment, the chill rose from the bottom of my heart. Every pore of my body is frozen, and the most important images in my memory come back one by one. The last tear from the corner of my mother’s eye, the look of disappointment in my father’s eyes, the cocky smile on Nicole’s face, the golden eyes that had once brought me warmth.
Is that so? I always feel that I am a wolf-less alien, so I always feel that I am weak, give up resistance, waiting to be rescued. I always choose to endure it when I encounter difficulties, so I lose all the things I value.
Pain and anger are like two conflicting flames in the body. They tore at my emotions. Cold sweat ran down my forehead. I bit my lip, my whole body went limp, and I couldn’t stand up straight. I looked like a seaweed floating on the bottom of the water, and finally the lake drowned me completely.
My ears became very quiet. Through a layer of water, the sky became very clear. A second before I felt suffocated, I could hear the noise of the water and a hand holding me up.
“F.uck! ! , damn it, do you want to kill you or kill me?”
Callum’s furious face showed as he angrily dragged me to the shore. My whole body got wet, and my wet hair left water marks on my face.
“If you really bow down to your fate, willing to be weak, unwilling to fight for your future, then you return to the water, I will never save you. I only help the strong, not the weak. Remember, it is your cowardice that kills you, not anyone else.”
A terrible silence.
“D.amn it!” I yelled at him for the first time. “You think I didn’t put up a fight? Growing up, I fought many times, but it didn’t work! You think I don’t want to make a scene in the bathroom today? But how can I make a scene in the royal household alone? Susana has your back, and I have no one. If you support her, what do I do? S.hit! You accuse me of not resisting, but you have no idea what a terrible world I’m facing. You’re an egomaniac, damn it!”
I gave up my old image and shouted at him angrily and sadly. I looked at his surprised face. The pain of being forced into the lake made me rush into his arms. I grabbed him by the neck and bit him hard on the neck.
S.hit! I gave up all my misgivings. I have no support, but I have nothing to lose. It’s no big deal. I’m going to die today. I won’t let him bully me today.
I pushed him hard into the grass and beat him wildly and bit his neck. He’s stronger than I thought. My teeth leave teeth marks and can’t hurt him. My emotions are like an erupting volcano. I can’t control myself. I don’t want to control myself. I roared and bit and rolled with him on the grass.
“That’s right, Jane, resist anyone who hurts you. Remember your emotions today.”
Callum whispered in my ear, letting my emotions out. He put his hand on the back of my head and gave me gentle comfort. He touched my head and let me hang on him like a baby, gnawing at him with my teeth.
Out of my sight, there was a smile of adoration in his eyes.

Finally I got tired and lay down next to Callum. Callum lay with me for a while, and then I was held in his arms again. Looking at his face, my flustered mood slowly calmed down. I couldn’t help but curl up in his arms, my head resting on his broad chest, feeling safe enough.
Walking down the long hallway, Callum kicked open the front door and laid me down on a large, soft bed.
“This is my room, you can rest here. Don’t worry, no one will do anything to you that you don’t want to do.”
Callum went to another corner to clean his body. He didn’t look at me. His back was to me. Through the glass window, I hid under the quilt. I saw myself in a sorry state with a towel over my head. My shoulders and calves were exposed, and I could not see his expression as the candle in the room glowed faintly.
“Your Highness, I have made a deal with you, and I thank you for taking me out of the Red Moon Pack. Your condition is that I become your queen. And I will try to take responsibility and not let you down. But I never knew the queen had to suffer such indignities!”
Callum did not speak. I stared at his back and continued, “Your Highness, I will fight for my dignity and my rights later, but I need you to make your point in front of everyone. Suan and the maids treat me like this because they think you don’t care about me very much. If you want me to be your comrade in arms in the days to come, you must make your stand clear. I don’t know why you chose me. You said you needed a queen. We’re not mate, and I don’t know why you’re doing this. But as long as we’re mutually beneficial, I don’t care.”
Callum didn’t speak. He stood there in silence and didn’t look back.
“And I. . . I didn’t have another relationship with another man.” I don’t know why I would explain, but I didn’t want him to misunderstand me.
“I can accept doubt, but I can not accept slander.” My eyes began to redden, and I began to cry when I spoke.
My fingers scratched the soft quilt. I stared at my reflection in the window.
What a mess, Jane. Why do you always expect someone to be on your side unconditionally? Just as father always chose Nicole, and mother left you, why would you want Callum’s protection?
I clung to my legs, buried my head in my knees, bit my lip, and told myself over and over again not to cry.
The atmosphere in the huge room was heavy and cold. With a sigh, Callum held me in his arms.
“I know you don’t. Those are all rumors.” A low voice rang in my ears. One hand caressed my hair to bring out a warm feeling. I looked up and saw his golden eyes narrow slightly.
“Jane, I can promise you. As long as you do not betray me, I will always stand by your side. You can be bold enough to do what you want to do. You said we were comrades in arms. I think it’s a much closer relationship than mate. As long as I am King, you are the only queen.”
There was a flicker of candlelight in his eyes as he stared at me. His broad jaw was taut, like a hunter on the prowl. I saw in his eyes a vague sense of danger and bloodthirsty ambition.
“Aren’t you the only Prince?” Callum has no siblings, which means he has no competition at all. Why does he look like there are many obstacles on his way to becoming king?
“But I still need the consent of the elders. Jane, the elders once gave me a fiancee, but I refused the choice that was given to me. You are my weapon against them.”
For a moment, I remembered Callum throwing the elder’s urgent letter into the fire on the way.
The elders looked after the prince. But proud Callum doesn’t like the feeling that his power has been curtailed, and according to royal tradition, an unmarried prince can not be king. So Callum needed a queen, and I, perhaps because I was more in control, was his choice.
“Then why me?” I asked him, puzzled.
There was a flash of darkness in his eyes, his long lashes half-closed, and then he said in a low voice, “Jane, there’s something I didn’t get to tell you.”
He paused and continued. “Have you seen the portraits of all the kings of Lycan in the hallway outside?”
“Yes,” I replied, Dazed.
“Did you notice that they all died in their prime?” Callum said softly.
