“Don’t get out of the carriage,” he whispered as he turned his head and threw his cape over me. Then he opened the door and walked outside.

“Your Highness!” I didn’t have time to stop him but only saw his back. Then I heard the wild cries outside and the sounds of knives.

“Bang! “A steady stream of arrows shot at the carriage. The tail feather of the arrow pierced the carriage in all directions, making a vibrating sound. Relying on the strength of the carriage, I hid in a corner and covered my body with a cloak.

“Kill that man! For the gold!”

“Kill him! For the gold.”

“Let’s go, boys! Let’s go!”

I looked out through the broken glass window, and suddenly there were a lot of werewolves in the silent forest, some with horses and knives, some with torches, some came rushing with bows and arrows. The night was mixed with the fire, and their faces were blurry. Only the hungry green eyes of the werewolves could be seen, like clusters of green fireflies floating on a pile of corpses.

Despite their numbers, Callum still has the upper hand. The long knife in his hand kept swinging, and the werewolves fell one by one. I could hear the dull sound of flesh being slashed.

There are bodies everywhere that were killed by Callum. The red blood stained his clothes. He kicked with his long legs, and a werewolf who was sitting on the horse fell to the ground. He flipped over and sat on the horse, and the long knife in his hand glowed with an ominous red light in the flames.

The forest was quiet again. It was a one-sided slaughter for the fallen werewolves.

The campfire was rekindled and I leaned against the tree in Callum’s cape.

One of the werewolves was knocked unconscious by Alen and placed in front of Callum with his hands tied behind his back. Callum changed his clothes again, and now he was sitting on a rock with a white handkerchief to wipe the blood-stained knife from his hand.

It was the first time Alen had shown me his less gentlemanly side. With a wave of his hand, he slapped the unconscious werewolf hard. The werewolf jerked to life. Alen grips his hair indifferently and holds his face so Callum can see the werewolf directly.

“Who are you?”

The long knife in Callum’s hand was wiped clean, and the light of the knife reflected murderous intent in his eyes.

“I. . . I’m just trying to make a living… As you can see, I’m just a rogue. We were recruited by someone. He… he said he would give us a lot of gold if we could complete the mission.”

The man was trembling unceasingly. Although he did not have a knife wound on his body, his facial features were already disfigured from the beating. There was also blood gushing from the corner of his mouth as he spoke intermittently, his body kept shrinking back in fear.

“Who is someone?”

Alen yanked his hair, and the man let out a cry of pain.

“It’s the Lord of Antos-Clair!”

Alen and Callum looked at each other. Alen suddenly crouched down, smiled and patted the rogue’s face.

“You said you were recruited by a vampire?”

“Y-yes, your highness. We didn’t know it was you. We all thought he wanted a human. All the rogues around here know about this,” the werewolf on the ground said with a trembling voice.

“You tracked us down and sent the vampires after us, didn’t you?” I thought of the fight yesterday.

My sudden noise made the werewolf turn his head subconsciously, but before he could see me, Callum winked at Alen, who grabbed the rogue’s head and slammed it on the ground. The werewolf had a bloody bump on his forehead when Alen picked him up again.

“Tracked you down? Oh, no, actually, I don’t know where those vampires came from. The Lord said he wanted to keep a woman. He said she was with you, he wanted her alive.”

The rogue was so beaten up that he couldn’t even make sense of his words, but as soon as he finished, Callum stopped wiping his long knife. He looked at me, and even Alen looked surprised.

“He wants a woman?” Callum pauses, his voice soft and dangerous.

“Yes… Yes,” the rogue stammered back.

The next moment, the light flew over, and the long knife flew directly into the werewolf’s body. Alen’s hand loosened his skull, and he vomited blood and fell to the ground.

“Go to Antos tomorrow. I want to meet the Lord,” Callum said quietly. I saw the knuckles of his hand holding the knife turn white.

Antos is an unknown city. This is a very special small town. Two hundred years ago, at the height of the vampire-werewolf war, a family of vampires quit the war and came here to live in seclusion. They thought their actions were an anti-war message, so no one bothered them for years.

This is a very special small town. Two hundred years ago, at the height of the vampire-werewolf war, a family of vampires quit the war and came here to live in seclusion. They thought their actions were an anti-war message, so no one bothered them for years.

As a child, I heard old people tell their stories. The city is now a place where vampires and humans mix. The vampires gave up their way of life and now look more like humans.

We chose to walk to go there. The carriage was tied to the forest, and the stacked bodies were a natural sign that neither vampires nor werewolves would dare touch the wagon.

After Alen offered gold and silver to the soldiers guarding the city, we successfully got permission.

It is said that most of the civilians in this city are human. This was the first time I had ever seen a living human being. Most of them were small and thin, and even I, the thinnest of werewolves, was about the same height as their average male. People come and go in the streets, but they always look at us in amazement as we pass, and I think it must be the over-the-top looks of Callum and Alen that get the attention. In order to keep us out of the limelight, we have changed into human clothes.

“Your Highness, this is where the Lord of the city lives.”

Alen pointed to the yellow-flagged building in front of the road, and Callum scanned it with his sharp eyes. “Get in there,” he said softly. “You know what to do.”

“Don’t worry, Your Highness.” Alen smiled and turned to walk to the door.

I saw him knock on the door and talk to the maid who opened it. In a moment, a well-dressed middle-aged man opened the door.

“Your Highness?” I looked at Alen’s back. I knew they had a plan, and couldn’t help but look at Callum next to me.

“Just follow me, don’t ask,” Callum said, shaking his head. He suddenly reached out and grabbed my hand with his broad, powerful palm, leading me forward.

I followed his footsteps, feeling the heat in his palms. My fingers were completely enveloped. There was no space. I moved tentatively, only to feel his grip tighten.

“This is my master and wife. We are businessmen passing through Antos. We have some gifts and would like to visit the Lord of the city.”

I followed Callum to the castle gate just in time to hear Alen and the housekeeper.

“Hello. My Lord is upstairs. I’ll be right with the message. Please wait.”

If I’m not mistaken, he’s a vampire, but he doesn’t smell us. I turned to look at Callum. He gave me a gentle nod.

I forgot Lycan’s power over vampires. They can control their smell from the enemy.

There was a look of scrutiny on the housekeeper’s face, and his eyes reflected a suspicious look. His eyes stopped abruptly when he saw me, and he didn’t look away for a long time.

I greeted the man’s gaze and looked at him in a daze.

Callum suddenly pulled me. His strength was so great that I had to lie in his arms. I didn’t know what he meant, but I immediately put on a submissive face and snuggled up to him.

“Ahem!” Alen looked at the sullen Callum and broke the silence.

“No offense, but I can’t help but notice her beauty. Please take a seat and rest. I’ll inform my Lord immediately.”

The housekeeper’s face was more obsequious than it had been before, and he beckoned one of the maids to lead us into the castle reception, and went upstairs.

The reception room in the castle was not so different from the dining room in my pack, but with a few more portraits. The picture hanging on the central wall with a sword, a big fat man must be the Lord now.

“I hear from my housekeeper that you are traveling merchants?”

There was the sound of heavy footsteps on the stairs, and then the door of the reception room opened. A fat man who looked exactly like the portrait hanging on the wall walked in. He was so fat that his facial features were no longer obvious, the two moustaches curled up as he spoke.
