Even though her voice was barely a whisper, Gabe still heard it. He responded with a mocking tone, “Claustrophobia? What kind of story are you fabricating here? You used to love thrilling activities, like escape rooms and haunted houses. They were your favorites. How come I’ve never heard of you having claustrophobia?”

“It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have been a downer at the welcome home ceremony. Venessa probably doesn’t want to see me here. I’ll just leave.”

With tears reddening her eyes, Madison shouldered the blame herself.

“Madison, it’s not your problem. Ah… You’ve put a lot of effort into arranging the welcome home ceremony, no? Vena, why can’t you just behave?”

Harriet spoke with a look of worry and distress.

Alaric stared at the cake on the table, seething with frustration. Without a second thought, he knocked the cake over.

The housekeepers, frightened, hastily left the room.

Gabe let out a deep humph.

“Absolutely unreasonable! If you insist on behaving this way, then go ahead and continue. I’ll just pretend I don’t have a sister like you. Don’t bother coming back to the Pierce residence ever again! Dad, Mom, Madison, let’s go! It’s not like we can’t manage without her at home!”

The group was just about to leave when Venessa started to vomit violently.

Her stomach was in turmoil as if she wanted to expel everything inside her.

After she had finished throwing up, she collapsed onto the ground, convulsing uncontrollably.

Upon witnessing this scene, everyone from the Pierce family was terrified and at a loss.

“What’s happening?”

Everyone was left dumbfounded, frozen in place, unsure of what to do.

“I… I’ll take you to the hospital!”

Regaining his composure, Gabe crouched down, intending to lift Venessa into his arms.

However, he ended up with nothing in his embrace.

Venessa clutched her chest, gradually straightening her body and taking in deep gulps of fresh air.

“This is a symptom of a claustrophobia attack. I’ll feel better once I’ve thrown up. I’m fine now, so I’ll take my leave.”

She spoke in a feeble voice, then, leaning against the wall, she slowly stood up.

Dragging her frail body step by step, she left the room.

Meanwhile, Madison was already sobbing uncontrollably, hardly able to catch her breath.

“Dad, Mom, did I cause Venessa’s claustrophobia? Oh, I’m sorry…”

Harriet hurriedly comforted her, “Madison, you’re not at fault. Don’t take all the blame onto yourself.”

Alaric also comforted her, “Your mother is right. Ever since Venessa came back, your tears have been relentless. Please, no more crying. It’s breaking my heart.”

As Venessa listened to the harmonious conversation of the family of three in the room, she couldn’t help but feel a pang of sorrow in her heart.

She quickened her pace to leave.

“Gabe, could you take Venessa to the hospital for a check-up? Let’s not mention this to your grandmother. I don’t want her to worry.”

Alaric sighed deeply, giving his instructions.

“Understood, Dad.”

Immediately, Gabe chased after her.

“You’re claustrophobic. Why didn’t you mention it earlier? This way, we could have avoided any misunderstandings. It seemed like you were just giving us attitude!”

Gabe stood in front of Venessa, immediately launching into a tirade without any explanation.

Venessa stared at him coldly. “Didn’t I tell you as soon as I could? Mr. Pierce, I informed you immediately after I recovered.”

“What I mean is, you should have mentioned that when you just got out of jail. That way, today’s surprise wouldn’t have turned into a shock!”

“So, are you implying that I need to apologize, Mr. Pierce?”

Venessa looked at him, her eyes brimming with deep scorn.

Gabe was at a loss for words.

How could Venessa think of him in such a way? No matter what, he could never bring himself to demand an apology from her.

As he was lost in thought, Venessa had already moved past him and walked off into the distance.

“Wait. I’ll take you to the hospital right now.”

Gabe caught up to her, intending to offer her support.

Venessa dodged swiftly, unintentionally dropping her glove in the process.

Unintentionally, he made contact with her hand, which was covered in chilblains, swollen and red.

It was as cold as a block of ice.

Venessa withdrew her hand, maintaining a distance from him. Her tone was laced with aloofness.

“Mr. Pierce, I don’t need to go to the hospital. Please stop following me. I just want to go back and rest at Grandma’s place.”

With a frosty tone, she firmly rejected him.

As soon as she finished speaking, she quickly left the Pierce residence.

Gabe intently watched the limping figure ahead of him.

Her hand must be in a lot of pain.

She’s also covered in so many wounds…

Recalling how uncomfortable she had looked earlier due to her claustrophobia, Gabe felt his heart sink.

Following that, a heart-wrenching pain surged, stimulating every nerve in his body.
