“Hey, why are you angry with me?” Helen couldn’t help but knock on the door.
What did I say wrong?
The birthday party couldn’t continue. With a glass of wine in his hand, Bryson smiled. “Thank you all for coming to Lily’s fourth birthday party. Lily is Jean’s daughter. We won’t let anyone bully her, even though Jean is gone. By the way, I also want to take this opportunity to announce that from today onwards, Lily’s last name is Crawford. Lily Crawford. Thanks again for coming.”
After the speech, everyone left Crawford Mansion one by one.
However, as they walked out of the gate, they couldn’t help but whisper.
“I have to say, Lily is so lucky to have eight uncles.”
“Yes, she must be spoiled by her uncles!”
Cheryl tugged on her mother’s dress when she thought about Lily’s dress. She envied Lily. In fact, she was jealous of her. She also wanted to be adored by many uncles.
Just then, Tina noticed that some people were still lingering in the living room.
Seeing a friend rushing in, Tina quickly stopped him and asked, “Mr. Lewis, what’s going on?”
Mr. Lewis answered, “Mr. Lambert is here!”
Tina’s eyes lit up upon hearing that.
Cheryl’s father, Thomas Miller, led Tina and Cheryl back into the house immediately. They hoped they could also meet Lawrence Lambert.
Cheryl sniffed and said cautiously, “Mommy, I’m sorry. I remembered it wrong…”
Tina wanted to say something but hesitated. In the end, she said, “It’s not your fault. Let’s go. Don’t you enjoy painting? Mr. Lambert is here. It’s your chance!”
Lawrence was a renowned painter. It was rare to have the opportunity to meet him in person. However, he was here today. Tina thought they were so lucky.
If Cheryl could be chosen as Lawrence’s student, the whole family would be so proud. Everyone would be envious of them.
Cheryl’s eyes lit up and she asked, “Are you saying the world-class famous painter, Mr. Lambert, is here?” Cheryl was familiar with him.
Tina nodded. “Yes, Cheryl. You should showcase your skills later! Your paintings are awesome!”
Cheryl’s oil painting had won the national junior art competition before. The country had been selecting young and talented artists to join the National Art Council, which oversees the development of arts in the country.
Cheryl was full of confidence when her mother praised her. She knew she was the most talented young artist among all the participants.
I’m sure Mr. Lambert will choose me. Then I can compete with Lily. Drake will also notice me.
On the second floor, Hugh patted Lily’s shoulder and said gently, “Let’s go, sweetheart. I want to introduce an old friend to you.”
Lily nodded. “Okay.”
Lily, being just a child, nodded seriously like an adult, which made Bettany laugh.
In the living room, a few people who were interested in oil paintings were talking with an old man.
“It’s truly an honor to meet you!”
“That’s right! We rarely have the chance to meet you in person. Are you going to be a judge for the second national art competition?”
The old man, dressed in a green shirt, shook his head with a smile. “No, no. I’m too old to be a judge. I’m here to find a young artist to be my student.”
Lambert was in a good mood. After seeing the paintings Hugh had sent him, he was so excited that he couldn’t even sleep for two days.
Lily was talented. Lambert hadn’t seen such a gifted child in decades.
When Hugh asked if he would like to take Lily as his student, he agreed immediately.
In the living room, everyone was stunned when Lambert said that.
Mr. Lambert is looking for a student! A young one? Who could it be?
Everyone was envious but also excited. They kept guessing who it could be.
Just then, Tina entered with Cheryl.
Everyone’s attention immediately turned to Cheryl.
Cheryl was one of the top junior painters in the community. At a young age, she had won numerous junior art competitions, and her works were displayed in the National Art Council.
Without a doubt, Cheryl could be Lambert’s student.
Suddenly, everyone smiled and greeted Tina and Cheryl as they walked in.
Lowering her head, Cheryl behaved like an obedient girl, keeping quiet. However, she couldn’t help but feel proud of herself, thinking that Lambert would choose her as his student.
Tina inquired, “Mr. Lambert, I heard that you are searching for a junior to be your student. We are curious about who that might be. Who is fortunate enough to have the opportunity to be your student?”
Mr. Lambert replied, “It is a remarkably talented child. She utilizes vibrant colors, and I am truly impressed by her boundless imagination reflected in her paintings. Her artwork is truly awe-inspiring! In fact, she is the most gifted artist I have encountered in the past few decades!”
Upon hearing this, Tina was filled with joy.
Cheryl always employs vivid colors and possesses a vivid imagination! It must be her! Mr. Lambert has come here personally for her!
Cheryl was aware of her mother’s happiness, and she felt happy too.
She took a deep breath and mustered up the courage to approach Lawrence.
“Hi, Mr. Lambert. I’m Cheryl. I really admire your paintings. You’re my idol!”
It was at that moment that Lawrence noticed Cheryl. He nodded and replied, “Thank you, little girl!”
Despite not being fond of social activities, Lawrence was a kind and approachable person.
Cheryl was thrilled. She believed that Lawrence liked her.
Just as she was about to say something, Lily, who had changed her clothes, descended the stairs. She held a few paintings in her hands.
Gilbert held Lily’s hand and introduced, “That old man is Mr. Lambert.”
Lily nodded and approached Lawrence. “Nice
to meet you, Mr. Lambert,” she said.
Upon hearing this, Lawrence was taken aback. He chuckled and said, “Nice to meet you too, my dear!”
Typically, young children referred to him as Grandpa Lawrence, but Lily addressed him as Mr. Lambert in a serious manner. He found it amusing.
Lawrence then raised his hand and touched Lily’s hair ribbon. “How old are you?” he asked.
Lily didn’t immediately respond. She glanced at Hugh.
What’s wrong with this old man? It’s my fourth birthday today. Obviously, I’m four years old. Why is he still asking me?
After contemplating for a moment, Lily obediently answered, “Mr. Lambert, it’s my fourth birthday today. I’m four years old now.”
Upon hearing this, Lawrence was stunned.
Suddenly, he felt as though he was being looked down upon by a child. He couldn’t help but grin and nod. “Yes! You’re right. Look how silly I am.”
“It’s okay. Sometimes, I’m silly too!” Lily replied with a smile.
In reality, Lily wanted to say that she also asked silly questions sometimes. However, she didn’t know how to express herself since no one had taught her. Her choice of words was limited.
Nevertheless, Lawrence found her adorable and innocent, and he liked her even more.
Standing to the side, Cheryl felt unhappy as Lily stole the spotlight.
