Filed to story: Alpha’s Regret After His Pregnant Luna’s Death (Evelyn & Declan)
And that, his calm silence, only fueled my anger.
Then something clicked.
Evelyn had no friends in Asterfell.
The only person she’d kept in touch with over the years was probably Peter.
So how did she end up with a child?
My thoughts froze.
My eyes sharpened on him.
I didn’t realize my fingers were trembling until I felt the wood under my nails.
“Whose child is it?” I growled.
The question had lived under my tongue far too long.
Peter didn’t answer, not directly.
Instead, his eyes softened with something unmistakable, a glimmer of… pride?
He smiled, faint but confident.”Alpha Declan, you’ve already done your digging. Luna Evelyn wouldn’t have come to me with a child unless there was a good reason.”
“You think I’ll believe that?” I hissed.
“It doesn’t matter whether you do,” he replied smoothly.”Before Luna Evelyn went to prison, I attended a few events with her. One night, she got drunk, and I didn’t resist how I felt about her.”
Blood roared in my ears.
“Shut your mouth!” I snarled, my wolf slamming against my ribs, rage vibrating through every word.
He was a lawyer…Oh he was a lawyer..that was the only reason I was restraining myself from doing what I was itching badly to do. I should already have cracked a few bones in his wretched body by now, but I managed to rein my anger under control, I wouldn’t want to be hit with a lawsuit.
“Do you even hear what you’re saying?” I said.
“It was my mistake,” Peter continued, obviously aiming to get me mad.”Luna Evelyn knew nothing about it. But the consequences are what they are. So tell me, Alpha Declan-do you still plan to break up the family we’ve built?”
Family.
The word hit me like a claw to the gut.
Peter held my gaze, unflinching.”Besides, you set a trap for me. Do you think we haven’t handled enough of Crawford Group’s cases to know your weaknesses? I may not be a bigshot, but push me hard enough, and I can make Crawford Group bleed.”
Was the child really his?
Declan’s POV
The thought drenched me in cold, searing ice.
I just found two nights ago that Evelyn had a child, but hearing another man claim her, claim fatherhood, made something in my chest snap.
My lips flattened into a hard, merciless line. I could feel my wolf pacing under my skin, furious and restless.
“You’ve got some nerve,” I said, my voice dropping to a lethal calm.”Fine. Thirty million dollars, one week. Not a cent short. Otherwise, I’ll make you pay in ways you haven’t even imagined.”
I rose slowly from my chair.
“Peter,” I said, my voice a blade, sharp enough to cut through the air.”You’ve really grown bold, haven’t you?”
I let a cold smile twist across my lips.”Fine. Let’s see what you’re made of.”
Rage flickered hot in my gut, and I hurled the coffee cup in my hand to the floor. It shattered into sharp porcelain pieces, the crash echoing across the office like a warning.
“Get out.”
Peter stood with irritating calmness. My wolf growled. He should be trembling, why wasn’t he.
Before he left, he glanced back at me, his eyes steady.
“Alpha Declan,” he said,”I may not be as powerful as you, but have you ever stopped to think? The wife you took for granted is someone else’s dream. And you, with your own hands, dragged her into hell. When you lie awake at night… do you ever regret pushing away the person who loved you more than anyone else?”
His words hit harder than I expected. For a heartbeat, my wolf went silent.
Then he stepped out and disappeared from sight.
The moment he was gone, I felt the aftershock of the confrontation hit me like a punch. My body tilted, just a fraction.
Collins rushed toward me.”Alpha Declan? Are you alright?”
I waved him off sharply.”I’m fine.”
But my jaw clenched, my pulse pounding in my ears.
Regret?
His words echoed again-
The wife you took for granted… the person who loved you more than anyone else… dragged into hell…
My wolf gave a low, uneasy rumble.
Had I ever regretted it?
There were nights, too many-when I sat alone in my study, staring at the darkness until morning. Nights when her scent still lingered in my memory. Nights filled with an emptiness that gnawed at me like hunger.
But regret?
No.
Sins had consequences. And Evelyn had to pay for hers. That was justice.
That was the world I ruled.
Besides… I had given her a chance to repent.
Not long after Peter left, I made a much needed call. He needed to know the consequences of crossing the line with me. He had challenged me, it was time to show him just how powerful I was.
With a single order, with one flick of my power, I pulled the threads to totally destroy Peter and watched them snap.
Just like that, Peter’s fragile little career began to buckle.
He thought he could stand against me?
Take what was mine?
My wolf let out a satisfied growl.
When I am done with him, he would wish he had never touched anything that belonged to me-
Not my territory, not my name, not my wife.
Evelyn’s POV
I’d been running errands all day, my feet aching, my wolf restless from being cooped up in crowds, so when I came around the corner and saw a group of men in suits swarming the house, every instinct in me bristled.
Some were taking photos, others were measuring walls and windows.
A few scribbled things down on clipboards.
My wolf pushed forward, hackles lifting. Why are strangers marking our territory?
A knot formed in my chest as I stepped inside the house. Peter stood in the living room, he was in the middle of a conversation with a man who looked like he ran the whole operation. I stayed quiet, watching as Peter shook the man’s hand. A moment later, the entire group filed out.
Peter stood by the window afterward, his hands in his pockets, staring out at the shadows of the trees swaying in the afternoon light. He didn’t even notice me. His scent felt muted and heavy today, weighed down by something I couldn’t yet name.
I approached quietly.”Sorry, Peter,” I murmured, rubbing my chilled hands together.”I reached out to several people from the industry today, but… no one could help.”
My voice dipped.”Everyone’s afraid to offend Declan. No one wants to go up against someone with that much power in Asterfell.”
I looked around the house, confusion tightening my brow.”But… what’s going on here?”
My soft voice finally drew him out of whatever trance he was in. He turned toward me, hesitation flickering across his eyes.
After a moment, he exhaled.”It’s the breach-of-contract issue. I had no choice. I’m putting this house up for auction to relieve some of the pressure.”
For a moment, I genuinely forgot to breathe.
Peter was selling the house?
