Filed to story: Alpha’s Regret After His Pregnant Luna’s Death (Evelyn & Declan)
As she played with him, Peter’s gaze drifted, almost unconsciously, toward me standing by the printer. His expression softened.
I acted as though I didn’t notice.

Soon after, I slipped back into my room to change.
The plain clothes I usually wore for cleaning were still folded on the chair, they were neutral colors, simple cuts, nothing that drew attention. They were the kind of clothes that made it easy for one to blend into a crowd and disappear.
But today… I needed to be seen.
I reached for one of my old dresses, something from a lifetime that felt impossibly far away. The fabric was soft beneath my fingers. It was understated luxury with elegant lines… and memories of who I used to be before everything fell apart.
When I slipped it on, my reflection startled even me.
It still fits.
More than that, the dress hugged my curves, the cut flattering despite being slightly out of style. My wolf lifted her chin with pride.
I stepped out into the living room.
Upon seeing me, Peter froze.
His eyes widened, darted away, then back again, only to snap away once more like my silhouette had burned him. His scent spiked with embarrassment, warm and flustered.
I almost laughed.
“Peter,” I said softly,”I need to make a trip to Crawford Group. Could I trouble you to watch Lana a little longer?”
He nodded so fast he nearly gave himself whiplash.”Of course. Lana and I will be right here waiting for you.”
The moment he heard himself, his face turned bright crimson.
Why is he so flustered? I wondered.
But I didn’t have time to dwell on it. With the documents in hand, I headed out the door.
—
Before long, I reached the lobby of the Crawford Group building.
The receptionist looked up, polite and neutral. She clearly still didn’t recognize me; I wouldn’t blame her or anyone who didn’t. Despite wearing better clothes, I still didn’t look much like my old self before prison happened.
“Good afternoon, Ms. Who are you here to see?” she asked politely.
“I am here to see Declan,” I replied calmly.
The moment his name left my lips, a flicker of shock crossed her face. Her scent sharpened, tinged with sudden nerves.
I could tell why, No one probably called Declan by name like that, Not here in his company.
“I’m sorry, Miss,” the receptionist said quickly.”If you’re here to see Alpha Declan, do you have an appointment? If you don’t, I am afraid you would not be able to see him”
“Reaching his assistant will be just fine,” I said evenly.”Just tell him Evelyn is here to finalize our divorce.”
There was silence.
Then-
A ripple spread through the front desk.
Every staff member within earshot froze mid-motion. Heads turned in my direction. Their eyes locked on me like I had just dropped a bomb right in the center of the marble lobby.
I could hear their murmurs.
Did she just say divorce?
With Mr. Crawford?
And that name she mentioned-Evelyn?
Is that really Luna Evelyn that went to prison several months ago?
The receptionist’s jaw dropped. She looked like she could’ve swallowed an entire egg without chewing.
I recognized the flicker of a mix of recognition and shock in their expressions.
“I’ll contact Beta Collins right away,” the receptionist stammered, her fingers trembling as she picked up the phone.
She sucked in a breath.
“Beta Collins, th-there’s a woman here. She says her name is Evelyn… and she’s here to have Alpha Declan sign divorce papers.
Declan’s POV
A sharp knock hit my office door.
I glanced briefly at it.”Come in.”
Collins stepped inside. He had his phone pressed to his ear. A look of disbelief was etched on his face.
“Alpha Declan,” he said, his voice strained,”Luna Evelyn is downstairs.”
My pen, my custom, thousand-dollar fountain pen, punched straight through the paper.
Ink bled across the page like a spreading wound.
For a beat, I couldn’t move. My wolf’s hackles shot up, a low, instinctive snarl vibrating in my chest.
“…What?”
I set the pen down carefully, my jaw clenching. My eyes narrowed into slits.
Evelyn was here?
What is she trying to pull?
I had seen her earlier today at her grandmother’s house and she had stormed off pissed. Why is she here now?
“What is she doing here?” I asked, though the cold edge in my voice made it sound more like a threat than a question.
Collins swallowed.”She said… she’s here for you to sign the divorce papers.”
Divorce.
She really had the courage to come here and say that word. Last night, I had taken back the signed divorce papers Peter had brought to my office and today, she was back with new ones for me to sign.
The temperature in the room dropped. I felt my wolf going still, dangerously quiet.
A freezing calm settled over me, the kind that came right before a kill.
Collins flicked a terrified glance at my face, which had already turned to stone.
He cleared his throat, his voice trembling.”Should… should I bring Luna Evelyn up?”
A laugh escaped me, it was short, sharp and icy. Even my wolf tilted his head at Collins’s stupidity.
My eyes lifted to him, cold enough to cut.”What do you think?”
He blinked, frozen. The man actually looked like he didn’t know the answer.
Bring her up?, Evelyn?
Into my space?
When she came here to cut the last thread between us?
Absolutely not.
“Tell the receptionist to let Evelyn know that I am not in,” I said.
My voice was calm. The kind of calm that made grown men want to run.
Without looking back at the ruined document, I tossed the ruined fountain pen into the trash. An expensive pen, gone without a thought.
I grabbed another pen, smoothing my expression back into one that was cold, unreadable and controlled.
The look that registered on Collins face showed he didn’t understand why I gave that instruction, but he didn’t need to.
After a few seconds, he turned and left to deliver my message.
