The asshole had the nerve to laugh. “Yeah, that’s more like it.”

Taking Taliana by surprise, Jude popped out from a door a few feet away. “Stop it!” he scolded, frowning furiously. “You two are supposed to be madly in love, remember?”

“How could I ever forget,” Taliana mumbled.

“Well act like it.” He glanced up and down the hallway to make sure they were alone before speaking again. “Pretty soon this house is going to be filled with people who actually think you two are in love, and you’ve got to make sure they keep believing that, especially if you want your parents to stop hounding you about Blair, Seb.” He pointed an accusing finger at them. “Don’t ruin this for yourselves.” With a soft huff, he jerked his head back inside the room and shut the door.

Taliana stared at the closed door longingly, willing him to come back out. “I wish I was pretending to be his girlfriend instead of yours.” She sighed, her anger fleeing and weariness taking over. This was one of those times when she was really regretting agreeing to this whole thing.

He didn’t seem fazed by her words. “No one would buy it,” he said, brushing it off easily. “We, however, are more believable.”

“I guess that’s true,” Taliana grudgingly agreed.

“It is. Now tell me what you were thinking about earlier.”

Bastard. “Would you just shut up about that?”

“No.”

“Please?”

His eyes shined with amusement. “I didn’t know that word was in your vocabulary.”

“Why won’t you just leave me alone?”

His grin was devastatingly bright in the dim hallway. “Because I want to know.”

“Curiosity killed the cat,” Taliana said weakly.

“But satisfaction brought it back,” he countered, not missing a beat. “Tell me .”

Finally, unable to take his prodding any longer, Taliana snapped. “Fine!” she shrieked, throwing her hands up for emphasis. “You want to know what I was thinking about? I was thinking about how you absolutely screwed me senseless. Happy?”

Sebastian looked thoughtful, but his mirth-filled eyes betrayed him. “That depends,” he murmured. “Did you? enjoy being screwed senseless, as you so politely put it?”

“Don’t make me strangle you, Phillips.”

“It was just a simple question.”

“Simple, my ass!”

“Answer it and I’ll leave you alone,” he promised.

“No, you won’t.” Taliana knew better than to believe him again.

“You’re right, I probably won’t. But it’s worth a shot, no?”

Taliana groaned, tempted to throw herself down the stairs to end her misery. But since that was bound to be more painful than this, she backed toward them carefully. “I’m going downstairs to see if your mom needs help with anything.”

Sebastian took another step closer. “Trying to escape from me?”

“More like escape from your stupidity.” Taliana turned, prepared to start down the staircase, but he shifted quickly to block her path. She glared at him in response. “Move.”

“Not until you answer my question.” He took yet another step forward, and Taliana took one back to keep a safe distance between them.

She eyed him warily, unsure of what his next move was going to be, but judging from the fact that her back was now pressed against the wall, she knew it wouldn’t be anything good.

“I’m not going to answer you,” she said, surprised her voice didn’t crack from having him so close.

In less than a second, the foot of space that had been between them narrowed to a mere few inches. This didn’t feel like the other times when their close proximity was staged.

“This seems familiar,” he said softly, gazing down at her as he placed a hand against the wall next to her head.

Taliana swallowed hard, forcing herself to meet his eyes once more, a big mistake; those endless blue depths were hazardous. “Too familiar.”

The few inches between them quickly dwindled to a few centimeters. Taliana’s heart raced as his other hand made its way to her waist, pulling her against him. Her breath hitched as he turned his head, his lips hovering over hers.

“Why are you doing this?” Taliana asked, voice finally breaking.

His grin was quick to fade, only to be replaced by a gentle smile. “Why do you think?” he asked, pressing his forehead to hers. “William is watching us from down the hall.”

Without thinking, Taliana tried to turn her head to see if what he said was true, but he caught her chin between his fingers before she could see anything. “Don’t give us away,” he murmured, lips brushing her jawline.

Taliana’s knees were weak. She could barely breathe, and if it wasn’t for his arm around her waist, she probably would’ve been a puddle on the ground. And if the doorbell hadn’t rung at that exact moment, she was positive she would’ve either gone down or leaned in to kiss him.

“I should- I should go see who that is,” Taliana stammered. “The boys should be here soon, anyway.”

“Let someone else get it,” Sebastian mumbled against her skin, planting butterfly kisses down her jaw to her neck. “I want William to believe this.”

A sigh escaped Taliana as her eyes fluttered shut, only to pop back open a moment later. She couldn’t give in to this, even if it was for show. It would’ve meant something to her that it shouldn’t have, and she wasn’t about to risk that happening. She just hated that it felt so… good .

“What if it’s Blair?” Taliana proposed, ignoring the part of her brain that was telling her to just shut up and go along with it.

Sebastian found a sensitive spot on her neck, and she had to suppress a moan by biting her bottom lip.

“It’s only four thirty,” he reasoned, his arm tightening around her waist.
