“Eddie, let’s go find Rachel. She’s a doctor. She can help patch you up,” Vicki said, completely forgetting whatever Baron had warned her about. She immediately took Eddie’s arm, determined to help him over to find Rachel.
The Quinn family was a prestigious medical family. Rachel was a doctor who worked at the Quinn family’s private hospital.
Eddie glanced down at Vicki’s fingers wrapped around his arm. The gentle touch sent ripples through his heart.
He took a couple of steps with her but then stopped.
“Eddie, what’s wrong?” Vicki asked, confused. She was more worried than anything. After all, Eddie had gotten hurt because of her.
“Ms. Shaw, wait a second. I need to grab my phone,” Eddie said.
“Your phone? Where is it?” Vicki asked, ready to go get it for him.
Eddie’s eyes darted around the area, and finally, he spotted his phone on the frozen lake.
With clear reluctance, Eddie gently moved Vicki’s hand away. “It’s on the lake. I’ll go get it.”
Vicki followed his gaze and spotted the black phone lying there.
“Eddie,” Vicki said, grabbing his arm again. “You’re hurt. Let me get it for you.”
“You can’t go,” Eddie blurted out, his tone suddenly urgent. His voice was a little sharp, almost anxious.
Vicki looked at him in surprise. “Why not?”
Eddie lowered his gaze.
‘Why? How could I let her take that risk? The memory of her falling throw he ice last year is still burned into my mind, Eddie thought.
“It’s too dangerous,” Eddie said.
Hearing that, Vicki remembered the last time she’d fallen through the ic

“Okay.” Eddie nodded.
She grabbed Eddie’s arm. “You’re right, Eddie. It’s too dangerous.
It was not the phone Eddie cared about. It was the stuff inside that he couldn’t afford to lose.
Vicki carefully helped Eddie along. “Eddie, let’s hurry and get your wound taken care of.”
Honestly, Eddie wasn’t hurt so badly that he needed someone to support him. But he didn’t pull away from Vicki.
He thought with a touch of sadness, ‘This might be the closest I’ll
“What are you two doing?”, someone’s voice suddenly interrupted.
Ever get to her.’
A cold shout suddenly rang out from ahead, startling Vicki. She almost reflexively let go of Eddie’s arm. The next moment, she grabbed Eddie’s arm again.
“Vicki, what are you doing?” It was Baron, Vicki’s brother.
He’d called Vicki to come home for dinner, but she still hadn’t shown upon this scene. after a while. So Baron came out to look for her, only to stumble
Baron’s lips pressed into a thin line, clearly annoyed.
“Baron, Eddie’s hurt,” Vicki blurted out as Baron tried to pull away. pulled Vicki’s hand away.
“If he’s hurt, let him see a doctor. Why are you hanging onto him?” Baron said, his face full of annoyance.
Baron definitely didn’t want his naive little sister getting mixed with a scumbag like Eddie.
With that, Baron was about to drag Vicki away.
But Vicki didn’t budge. “Baron, Eddie got hurt because of me.”
“Because of you?” Baron frowned. He glanced Vicki up and down, relieved to see she was okay.
As a psychiatrist, Eddie could notice Baron’s obvious dislike for him.
Eddie spoke up, “I’m fine. I can handle it myself.” With that, Eddie turned to leave. His gait was a bit awkward because of the pain in his knee.
“Wait, Eddie?” Vicki called out. Vicki tried to go after him, but Baron held her back.
Vicki frowned. “Baron, why are you stopping me?”
Baron watched Eddie’s figure disappear into the distance, his expression cold. “Vicki, I’ll say it one more time. Stay away from Eddie.”
Vicki’s frown deepened. “Fine.”
Baron reached out and patted her head. “Don’t just let my words go in one ear and out the other.”
Only then did Vicki say, “But Baron; I actually think Eddie’s pretty nice.”
Baron snorted, “He’s a total jerk. What’s so good about him? From now on, stay away from him. Got it?”
“Yeah, I know.” Vicki nodded.
Everyone spent lunch talking about Baron and Rachel’s wedding.
Rachel gave Eddie’s knee a quick patch-up.
After lunch, Baron and Rachel sat down with the elders to go

Even though Baron had warned her again and again to stay away from Eddie, she just couldn’t bring herself to do it. After all, Eddie had gotten hurt because of her.
“How could I just turn my back on him now? That’s so heartless,’ she wondered. So, Vicki sneaked off to find Eddie.
Eddie was sitting on the couch, Beth frowning at him. “How could you be so careless? Your knee is scraped up, and your phone’s broken-
“Mom, I’m fine,” Eddie replied coolly.
He was just grateful he’d acted as a cushion for Vicki. If her tailbone had slammed into that stone pavement, she would surely be gravely hurt.
“Mrs. Saunders, I’m so sorry,” Vicki said, walking in with an apologetic look on her face.
Beth stood up, looking a bit puzzled. “Vicki, what’s wrong?”
Vicki explained, “Mrs. Saunders, I’m really sorry. Eddie got hurt because he was trying to save me.”
Beth looked surprised. After all, Eddie hadn’t said anything like that.
Eddie said, “Mom, didn’t Grandpa need to talk to you about something?”
Beth understood he wanted her to leave and nodded. She nodded.
“Vicki, can you keep an eye on Eddie for me? He’s having trouble getting around. If he needs anything, just help him out,” Beth said to Vicki.
“Sure, Mrs. Saunders.” Vicki nodded.
Beth left the room.
Vicki looked at Eddie, guilt written all over her face. “Eddie, it must hurt a lot, right?”
Eddie shook his head. “I’m fine. It doesn’t really hurt.”
Vicki bit her lip. ‘How could it not hurt?’ she thought to herself. ‘I saw it. It was already a bloody mess.’
Eddie was taken aback when he noticed how concerned Vicki seemed.
‘Is she actually feeling sorry for me?’ Eddie wondered. ‘Didn

‘Maybe it’s just because I saved her,’ Eddie thought, smile flickering across his face. ‘Am I really starting to imagine things now?”
How ridiculous.
Vicki had no idea what was going on in Eddie’s mind. She leaned in, her tone warm and attentive as she asked, “Eddie, I saw you barely touched your lunch. Want me to grab you some pastries from the kitch
