“You’re breaking the law,” Milena shouted, shrinking against the wall in the corner.
Osborne nodded slightly. “You’re right. If we were to go all vigilante on you, that would definitely be illegal.”
Milena breathed a sigh of relief.
But then Osborne continued, “Still, Ms. Wallace, you’re going to be this stubborn about denying everything. Shouldn’t you at least think about your parents, who are still locked up?”
Milena paused for a second, then shot them a scornful look. “Don’t even think about threatening me with them.”
Back when Martin was almost eaten by Pearl, Cameron’s tiger, Milena was ready to ditch him for 15 million dollars.
Now that those two were completely useless to Martin, there was no way she’d risk anything for them.
Cameron said coldly, “She’s cold-blooded. That kind of trick won’t work on her.”
Milena lifted her chin defiantly. “Why should I confess to something I didn’t do just because you’re trying to threaten me?”
Just then, Osborne’s phone rang. It was his assistant calling.
Osborne held the phone to his ear and listened for a moment, a faint smile tugging at the corner of his lips. “Take her to the police station first.”
After getting a response, Osborne hung up.
“Osborne, did they catch him?” Reginald asked.
Osborne nodded. “Yes.”
Milena’s heart skipped a beat.
‘Who did they catch?’ she wondered. ‘Could it be that truck driver?’ is that guy really that dumb?”
“Now that we’ve got the evidence,” Eric said, raising an eyebrow as he pulled out his phone, “I’ll call the cops and have them come pick her up.”
Evan scoffed, “Why bother calling the cops? We can just drag her over there.”
As he spoke, Evan grabbed Milena’s arm and started hauling her toward the door.
Milena clung desperately to the doorframe, panic in her voice. “What are you doing? Let me go. What do you want from me?”
Evan raised his hand threateningly. “Shut it. Make another sound and I’ll knock you out myself.”
Seeing the fierce look on Evan’s face, Milena immediately clammed up.
With a sharp pull, Evan pried her hand off the doorframe.
Everyone got in the car and drove off to the police station.
Milena was put in the front passenger seat beside Evan.
Evan shot her a cold glare. “Don’t even think about pulling any tricks, or I’ll end you myself.”
Milena clung to the car door, trying it just in case, but of course,, it was locked tight.
Evan’s fingers tapped lightly on the steering wheel, a faint smirk playing on his lips.
The car, which had been cruising at a steady pace, suddenly accelerated sharply. Then, just a few seconds later, Evan slammed on the brakes.
Milena, who hadn’t bothered to buckle her seatbelt, was instantly thrown forward. Her head smacked straight into the windshield.
The glass didn’t even crack. But blood was streaming down her forehead, staining her face in crimson.
Watching her clutch her head and howl in pain, Evan looked pleased with himself and let out a cold laugh. “You don’t even have the brains to buckle your seatbelt.
“You actually thought you could hire a hitman to take out Brad? What a joke.”
Milena’s head was bleeding nonstop, and she instinctively clutched her head, her hands stained with blood. The pain was so overwhelming that she could hardly hear what Evan was saying,
Milena muttered, “I-I need to go to the hospital.” She felt like she was dying.
Evan turned the steering wheel and started the car again, a smirk playing on his lips. “Alright, I’ll grant your wish.”
The car continued to move forward.
Evan glanced at the bloodstains on the seat and frowned in disgust. “It’s so disgusting.”
Milena kept crying out in pain, begging to be taken to the hospital.
After more than ten minutes, an SUV lost control while taking a sharp turn and swerved straight toward Evan’s car.
Evan yanked the steering wheel hard. The SUV crashed right into the passenger side.
“Ah-” Milena’s scream filled the car.
The passenger seat was mangled out of shape. Milena had no idea where she was hurt-blood splattered across Evan’s face, and he wiped it away with a look of disgust.
Milena blacked out on the spot. Evan got out of the car.
All the Saunders family’s cars came to a stop.
A young girl stumbled out of the SUV, her face pale with fright. “I-I didn’t mean to. I was trying to hit the brake, but somehow I stepped on the gas instead.”
The SUV didn’t even have a license plate, and the driver just bought it half an hour ago. The accident happened now.
The young girl was in complete shock and immediately called the police.
Traffic police showed up in no time.
Milena, who was unconscious, was rushed to the hospital./
The young girl didn’t argue at all and paid for all the medical expenses.
The doctor said Milena had multiple fractures and a concussion, and she’d probably be stuck in a hospital bed for months.
When they heard the news, the Saunders family all looked pretty pleased.
Seeing the smiles on their faces, Cameron grew thoughtful. ‘Is this really just a coincidence?’ she wondered. But then again,dn’t really matter.
Milena had hired someone to run down Bradley, so it was only fair she got to experience what it felt like to be hit by a car herself.
There was good news from the station, too.
The truck driver Milena had hired had already been caught. She thought she could fool everyone, but the driver had been one step ahead- he’d secretly recorded their entire conversation.
Trying to save his own skin, he confessed everything as soon as he set foot in the station.
Now, with both witnesses and hard evidence, all that was left was for Mitena to wake up-then the cuffs would be waiting for her. She was about to pay the price for what she’d done.
The group made their way back to Crownhill Hospital.
The Yates family saw the news and hurried over as well.
Jacqueline took Cameron’s hand and comforted her, “Cam, worry. Brad will be fine.”
Cameron squeezed her hand back and nodded. “I know, Mom. Brad will wake up soon.”
Sure enough, as evening fell, Bradley finally woke up.
The room was crowded with people, all fussing over him and checking to see how he was doing.
Bradley’s weary eyes swept over everyone, lingering on Cameron for a few seconds.
He lowered his gaze. Still weak from just waking up, he soon dozed off again.
As a doctor, Damian ushered everyone out of the room.
Cameron stayed behind. She sat by the bed, gently holding Bradley’s fingers.
Damian said, “Cam, don’t worry. Brad’s out of danger now. Once he gets a good night’s sleep, he’ll be fully awake by tomorrow.”
Cameron nodded and glanced at Damian. “Dr. Saunders, you should get some rest, too. You’ve been on your feet all day.”
Damian pointed to the companion bed nearby. “Cam, you should rest as well. If Brad wakes up tomorrow and sees you looking exhausted, he’ll be worried about you.”
Cameron smiled and nodded. “Okay.”
It wasn’t until late into the night that Cameron finally crawled onto the cot beside the bed and fell asleep.
She slept soundly through the night, not a single dream disturbing her rest.
