It was nearly an hour when he finally cut the call…
Even after the call, I felt miserable… I felt like I was going through the same hardship as him…
Since I was already an hour late to my shift, I thought of going home. I walked to the bus stop.
My phone rang again. It was from Luke.
“Where the hell are you?” he literally yelled at me.
“I am at the bus stop near the university, why?” I asked confusedly.
“Didn’t you tell me that you are going to the caf? after the lectures. I came to the caf?, but you were not there…” he said.
“I couldn’t go there. Something came up. Why you came to see me?” I asked.
“You are my responsibility until Jake comes back. Now tell me what so important came up?” he asked. He seemed to be angry. Should I tell him the truth? I think it’s better, to tell the truth.
“Mr. Patterson called me…” I said.
“What? Why did he call you?” he seemed to be shocked.
“He was so sad. His mom is so ill… Doctors have told them that they can’t keep any hopes…” I said.
“Whatever… But why he called you? You are not a doctor. You are not one of their relatives as well…” he said.
“He said he has no one to talk to… He is not close to his father even… He said he doesn’t have any friends he can talk to…”
“So, you believed him? I didn’t think you are this much stupid, Sarah…” he said, interrupting me.
“What?”
“Do you really think he has no one to share his feelings? Okay, let’s say what he said is true. But why he called you. He doesn’t even know you well. You are just a student in the university he recently joined as a lecturer.” He was really pissed off… “I don’t know about that, Luke. But just as he thought, I was ready to listen to him. I spent one hour to share his pain and suffering.” I said.
“What? One hour! You were in a call with him for one hour! You are totally insane!!!”
“I may be insane, Luke. But I do have a heart unlike most of the people. I know how painful it is when you don’t have anyone to listen to you. I just couldn’t let him suffer more when his mom is in death bed.” I said bitterly.
He didn’t say anything for some time.
“Okay… Okay… I am sorry… Now, wait for me. I am coming to pick you up.” He said.
“No need. I can go.” I said quickly.
“Don’t be stubborn, Sarah… Wait for me… I will be there in 5 minutes.” He replied.
“Okay…” I agreed. There is no meaning of arguing with him. I know he loves me so much. No matter what he tells me, he tells them just to make sure I am safe.
Luke’s POV
I dropped Sarah at her home.
I was really pissed off at her for talking with that jerk for that long. But there was no point in blaming her…
She knows nothing about him. He is not the saint he tries to pretend. She is just too innocent to recognize a person like him.
Before even I reach home, my phone rang. It was from Jake.
“Hello, is everything okay?” I asked worriedly.
“I don’t know, man… I think she is going to die. Dad is so worried about that.” He sounded so upset.
“He has fair reasons to get worried. Doctors have said they can’t keep any hopes, right?” I asked.
“Yes… But how you know about that?” he asked.
“Well… Don’t get panicked or worried. Andrew has called Sarah…” I said.
“What? Why the f**k he called her?” he was furious.
I explained to him briefly what has happened. It took me a while to make him calm down.
“He is getting the maximum use of her innocence…” he said worriedly.
“Yeah, that’s true. He has clearly understood what type of person she is.”
“Sometimes, I feel I must tell everything with her, Luke. Then she will know from whom and from what he has to be safe.” Jake said.
“I can’t give you an opinion about it, Jake… Anyway, don’t do anything in a hurry. Did you go to the hospital?” I asked.
“Yes… Dad made me go…”
“Did you meet Andrew too?”
“No… I made sure not to meet him. They are trying to put this also to my dad’s account.” He said.
“What? That’s ridiculous! What he has to do with this?” I asked.
“I don’t know. That’s how they are… I don’t really know how all these things are going to end…” he replied.
I didn’t know how to respond to him too. I don’t know how to make him calm down…
Sarah’s POV
I got a call from Jake after I got home.
“Hello princess…” no need to tell how happy I was to hear that deep voice.
“Jake!!! Where are you? You don’t know how much I worried about you. You should have at least call me before leaving.”
“I am so sorry Princess… I had no time to explain anything. My dad needed me immediately.” he said sadly.
