Cyrus continued, “There’s a more serious question right now. Jeffrey is a Tsulian. Our country’s laws do not allow foreign convicts to be sentenced to death here. At most, a murderer would get 20 years behind bars. Jeffrey would definitely be extradited to Tsulu in 20 years for their court to deal with him!”
Cyrus ground his teeth together, grunting out, “I feel like strangling something the moment I think about the fact that that cruel lowlife won’t be getting the death penalty, Lyse!”
“Don’t say that, Cyrus. You’re already doing your best. It’s Jeffrey that’s too cunning and heartless.” Alyssa took a deep breath and asked, “Can you inform your higher-ups that Jeremy and I want to have a chat with Jeffrey?”
“You two?” Cyrus was shocked.
“Yes. Let us have a chat with Jeffrey. Who knows? We might be able to contribute to the case.”
“Oh my goodness, I nearly forgot!” Cyrus suddenly smacked his. forehead. His eyes were glowing excitedly. “You helped us solve two murder cases before! One was by pinpointing material evidence that gave us a breakthrough, and the other was identifying mistakes in at suspect’s statement, which made the criminal come clean!”
Jeremy stared at Alyssa in sheer awe.
How could Alyssa be so phenomenal? There was no way he could catch up to her at this rate.
Jeremy used to think he was pretty decent. But now, he felt like a piece of used tissue paper in front of Alyssa.
“Looks like you still remember my achievements, Cyrus,” Alyssa teased. “If it weren’t for Winston, Mandy, and everyone else holding me back, I would’ve become a gun-slinging police officer myself. You might even be calling me Madam right now.”
“That’s only because everyone worried you would be in danger be out on the front lines every day. They all dote on you, after all. But they still couldn’t stop you in the end, no? You ended up …”
Alyssa suddenly shot Cyrus a look, which made him stop talking. Her secret had nearly been revealed.
Cyrus then led Jeremy and Alyssa to see the station’s captain.
The captain, Orion Holt, naturally remembered who Alyssa was. He still recalled how her keen attention to detail helped them solve a previous case.
What was more surprising was that Jeremy was here.
Jeremy Walsh’s name alone was enough to instill a sense of magnitude in Orion. Orion knew just how powerful Jeremy was without needing to exchange any words.
“Thank you for coming all this way, Mr. Walsh. I apologize for not welcoming you earlier!” Orion said hurriedly.
His attitude toward Alyssa was kind, but he grew excited and courteous upon turning to Jeremy. He even told Cyrus, chief of the First Criminal Investigation Division, to bring Jeremy some coffee!
Cyrus internally cursed his captain.
Meanwhile, Jeremy hurriedly stood up and said, “I’ll get it myself.”
No way was Jeremy going to let his future brother-in-law make coffee for him right in front of Alyssa. He hadn’t lost his mind yet!
Jeremy still needed to marry Alyssa!
Alyssa’s eyes narrowed fondly. She was pleased to see that Jeremy knew his place.
“Oh, my goodness! We can’t let you go through all the trouble. you some myself!”
Orion hurriedly got Jeremy a mug of coffee, making Cyrus fume silently.
If Orion knew that Cyrus was the seventh child of Winston Taylor, the wealthiest man from Belbanks, would he straight up have Cyrus move into his own office?
Jeremy was in no hurry to drink the coffee. He tapped on the mug to test its temperature before blowing at it gently. He then offered it to Alyssa.
“Here. It’s not scalding anymore,” he said.
Cyrus and Orion were left speechless.
“You have some, too.” Alyssa took a sip before passing it back to Jeremy.
Jeremy drank from the spot where her lips had just touched.
Their interaction wasn’t too over the top. Regardless, it made the onlookers feel envious.
“Captain Holt, we’re here today just for one thing-to speak with
Jeffrey Snyder,” Jeremy said without waiting for Alyssa or Cyrus to speak
“Arrange for Mr. Walsh to meet the suspect right away, Cyrus!” Orion instructed.
Everyone was shocked.
Was it that easy?
“Yes, captain.” Cyrus was stunned by how smoothly it went.
“But Jeffrey is a dangerous man. It might not be safe to see him alone, Mr. Walsh. Let Cyrus go with you,” Orion said.
“No need,” Jeremy replied calmly.
“It’s alright, Captain Holt.. Mr. Walsh is far more skilled than Cyrus and Jeffrey combined,” Alyssa said with a smile. “You best send more officers to watch over Jeffrey if Mr. Walsh gets angry. I fear Jeffrey might end up losing his life in the station.”
Alyssa couldn’t let Jeffrey die before everything came to an end-not yet.
Cyrus and two officers waited outside the detention center while. Alyssa and Jeremy went inside to speak to Jeffrey.
Some time went past before Jeffrey was lugged before them. He was cuffed and clad in prisoner’s garb behind the bars.
“Fancy seeing you here,” Jeffrey snickered and sat on the metal chair. He leered at Alyssa and teased, “Did you miss me, Ms. Alyssa?”
Alyssa’s expression was frosty. Though angry, she was able to control herself.
But Jeremy’s anger had reached boiling point. His jaw was clenched tight as he glared at Jeffrey. He bristled like some caged animal, ready to lunge forth at any time.
Just then, Alyssa held Jeremy’s trembling hand underneath the table.
Her firm grip steadied Jeremy’s being, sending a curious calmness throughout his body. It quickly stabilized his emotions..
“Hurry up and get to the point. I want to get back to sleep,” Jeffrey continued. He was clearly not interested in cooperating with them.
“We’ve come here to talk about working with you, Jeffrey,” Alyssa began, using a more acceptable term.
“Work with me? Do you think I’m an idiot, Ms. Alyssa? I nearly died under both your hands. You two want to work with me? What nonsense!” Jeffrey scoffed.
“You didn’t succeed in killing us, though you wanted to, did you?” Alyssa asked with a faint smile.
Jeffrey’s brows furrowed.
He was a mercenary, a trained hitman. Alyssa’s words were insulting his expertise.
She continued, “You know very well that the laws in my country only sentence criminals of the gravest offenses to a maximum of 20 years. in prison. Do you really want to stay behind bars for that long?
“You’d be 60 by the time you return to Tsulu. Would you still have your support back there? You’ll still have to be imprisoned in Tsulian jail when you go back at the old age of 60. You know just how terrible the prison conditions there are. Do you think you’d survive?”
Alyssa’s words struck every one of Jeffrey’s weak points. She was a natural mediator.
Jeremy clasped her hand silently as he watched her speak. His gaze was filled with admiration and tenderness.
Jeffrey’s smile froze momentarily on his face.
Alyssa struck while the iron was hot.
She said, “We know Sophia was the one who instructed you to do this. Things wouldn’t have ended up the way they did otherwise. Our number one enemy is Sophia, not you. Now that you’re arrested and at risk of imprisonment, Sophia continues living her life freely out int the world. It’s as if the consequences you’re suffering today have nothing to do with her. Can you live with that?”
Jeffrey sneered but said nothing.
“So why don’t we work together? You can testify that Sophia was the one who instructed you to kill Nina. In return, we’ll make sure you return to Tsulu within the year. You saw how close my sister was to the royal family. All that’s needed to get you back home safe is a kind word from my sister to the queen.”
Alyssa then ended her words with, “How about it, Mr. Snyder? Why don’t you consider our offer?”
Shock rippled in Jeremy’s eyes.
Alyssa’s attitude, consideration, and mindset were just as keen as Jeremy’s and the other men in the business world. In fact, many of the big leagues couldn’t even compare.
Jeremy was fortunate Alyssa was kind at heart and that she loved him. Who knows what kind of torment Jeremy would suffer from her? It must be the devastating kind.
Jeffrey chuckled. He said sarcastically, “If someone else offered this deal to me today, I might actually take it up. But since it’s you who’s suggesting it, Ms. Alyssa, then I do not have a single reason to believe you at all.
