“Forget it. You may have the Zellwegers, but he has Eustace.” The Quinceys were leagues stronger than the Zellwegers. Gilbert didn’t think that he would win at all.

Before Danika could speak, Zack said, “Eustace is Danika’s boyfriend now. Is he really going to go bros before hoes?”

“That’s not for you to say, Zack. Eustace is great as my boyfriend, but I wouldn’t be mad if he helped Paul. I’d understand.” They were great friends, after all. Eustace wouldn’t let Paul go to prison.

Gilbert glanced at her, understanding what she meant. “Fine. We’ll let this go.”

“Have you made your decision?” Danika teased.

“I know you don’t want me to sue him.” Gilbert rolled his eyes at her. He saw through Danika’s schemes easily.

Danika didn’t deny it. It was true she didn’t want them to end up in court. Paul was only doing it for Marigold. Besides, Gilbert was indeed being a little irrational.

Danika didn’t continue the topic of sending Paul to prison. She changed it instead. “Why don’t you honestly consider Marigold? Her methods were a little unorthodox, but she really likes you.”

“I don’t want you to say anything of that sort again, Danika,” Gilbert said solemnly, upset.

Danika pouted. Oh well.

“How are your injuries?” she asked.

Gilbert shook his head. “They’re alright. I’ll recover in about two days.”

After comforting Gilbert, Danika left the ward. Zack followed her out and asked, “Danika, are you really going to let Paul go like that?”

“What else am I going to do? He was just angry on behalf of his sister. What’s wrong with that?” If it were Danika, she’d be angry too. Maybe not angry enough to throw hands, but enough to strike if the situation called for it.

Zack pouted and asked softly, “Is Marigold’s child really Gilbert’s?’

“It’s very likely,” Danika concluded.

Zack was surprised. “I thought that Marigold was lying.”

“There’s no use in lying. It’d be exposed sooner or later.” One paternity test was all it’d take to expose the lie. She didn’t think Marigold was as idiotic as that.

Zack sighed. “Gilbert’s really unlucky this year.” Not only had he not fallen in love, he was faced with an obstacle like that.

I’d Advise You Not To Go

Danika glanced at him. “You seem to be doing well these days.’ “Of course I am.”

The moment the words left his mouth, Zack glanced at the ward behind him. Thankfully, Gilbert hadn’t heard him. “But I’d never compare to you, Danika. How was the honeymoon with Eustace?”

“What honeymoon? Don’t you be cheeky,” Danika huffed. They weren’t even married.

Zack covered his smile. “It’s just a different way of saying it.”

“Oh, I can’t be bothered with you. Go find Janet or something.” Danika stood up to leave. However, she didn’t leave the hospital. She went to Gavin Porter’s, the director, office instead to tell him that she was back and ready to work.

“It’s alright. You haven’t used up all your annual leaves yet. You can have a few more days off.’ Gavin did not agree to her request to start working.

Danika frowned. He continued, “The schedule for the next few days has been made. Just wait a few more days. The other departments have people who want to go on holiday, too.’

“Alright.” Danika didn’t say anything else. It seemed like she had to settle the things between Gilbert and Marigold in these few days.

However, she had no idea how to go about it.

She left the hospital and realized she did not know where to go. She lived at Evan’s villa before, but Evan was gone now. She couldn’t keep staying there.

Danika thought for a while and decided to move back into her little apartment. Right as she was about to hail a taxi, her phone rang. It was Eustace. “Where are you?”

“I’m at the hospital entrance. Have you settled things over there?” She knew that he had gone to the police station to see Paul. He should have gotten him out by now.

Eustace murmured in response and said, “I’ll come get you.”

Danika didn’t refuse and waited for him to arrive.

Marigold ran into Danika when she came to the hospital and was shocked.” Aren’t you and Eustace on holiday? When did you come back?”

“We just got back,” Danika answered. She was bewildered by Marigold’s sudden appearance. “Are you here to have an ultrasound?”

Marigold shook her head. “I’m here to see Gilbert.”

“To see Gilbert?” Danika was surprised. Gilbert probably wouldn’t want to see her right now.

“I want him to forgive my brother. He was only fighting him because of me. I don’t want him to go to prison.” Marigold had no other options. She had no voice in the Wagners, and the others were unwilling to help her. They wanted Paul to go to prison so that they could divide the family’s assets among them.

Danika raised her eyebrows, understanding Marigold’s words. “I’d advise you not to go. Gilbert probably doesn’t want to see you.”

“I know.” Marigold smiled bitterly. “My brother is in the wrong this time. I just want to apologize on his behalf.”

“There’s no need. Paul is already released from the police station. You can call him.” Danika looked at Marigold’s bump. If she went into the hospital and fought with Gilbert, there was no telling what would happen.

Marigold was overjoyed. “Really?”

Danika nodded. With no hesitation at all, Marigold called Paul. Indeed, he was already bailed out with Eustace’s help.

She hung up and looked at Danika gratefully. “Thank you for letting it go and helping my brother.”

“It wasn’t me. It was Eustace.” Danika shook her hands hurriedly. If she went to help Paul, Gilbert would curse her to the Heavens. The most she could do was hold herself back when Eustace went to save Paul.

You’ve Gone Mad

Marigold was still grateful. ‘Eustace is your boyfriend now. He might have listened to you if you told him not to save my brother.”

Paul would not have come out of the police station so easily if it weren’t for Eustace’s help.

“That’s between him and Eustace. It has nothing to do with me.” Danika didn’t think that Marigold needed to thank her. She had done nothing, after all.

As they spoke, Eustace’s car stopped by the entrance.

“Let’s go.” Eustace rolled down his window and got Danika in the car. He saw Marigold standing next to her and said, “You can sit in the back. Paul is in the car, too.”

They’d just come out of the police station. Eustace had come for Danika before dropping him home.

Marigold was surprised. The windows of the backseat rolled down as well. Paul looked displeased. “Why are you here?”

“Are you okay, Paul?” Marigold hurried over and got into the car.

Danika sat in the passenger seat, and the car moved quickly.

Paul looked disheveled. “Why wouldn’t I be okay? What could Gilbert do to me?”

“You shouldn’t have hit him, Paul,’ Marigold said in a soft voice.

Paul was angry when he said that. He glared at her and said, “I was avenging you. Do you think I’d pick on him for no reason at all?”

“I know, but I’ve already told you that I’m the one who wanted to keep the child. It has nothing to do with anyone else,’ Marigold explained, afraid he would turn angry.

She wasn’t blaming Paul for throwing hands. He was just too impulsive. What if Gilbert refused to let it go and sent him to prison?

At the mention of her child, Paul felt irritated. “I’m telling you, abort that kid at the hospital tomorrow. You can’t have it!”

He was holding on to the hope that Gilbert would marry Marigold and put everything to an end. But now, based on how Gilbert reacted, he knew it was impossible.

Paul would rather be cruel and get Marigold to abort the child. It would benefit everyone.

“I wont,” Marigold refused. “I can raise it alone. I don’t need anyone else.”

“Marigold Wagner!” Paul roared. He was incensed now.

Marigold was afraid of him, but she was determined. “If you’re afraid I’ll tarnish the Wagners’ name, you can disown me. That way, I won’t damage the family’s reputation no matter what I do.”

“You’re fucking crazy!” Paul glared at her. He’d have slapped her to her senses if she weren’t pregnant.

Danika saw that they were about to fight. Weakly, she said, ‘Stop fighting. Why dont I invite Gilbert out and discuss this with him?’

“What is there to discuss? Gilbert is a bastard!” Paul said at once. He didn’t think he had beaten Gilbert up enough.

Marigold, however, agreed. “I don’t think there’s much to discuss. It’s my child. Why should I have to discuss it with someone else?”

Danika was speechless. She looked at Eustace, who caught her imploring gaze and said, “Putting the kid aside, you still have to talk about the fighting, don’t you? I don’t want to keep picking you up from the police station. You’ll be staying there the next time around.”

Paul scowled, upset. ‘Fine. I don’t think he’ll be able to do anything to me.”

Let’s All Sit Down

Paul was stubborn, but Marigold was sensible. She said at once, “Let’s listen to Eustace. Let’s all sit down and talk it out. Then everyone can be on their way without affecting anyone.”

Paul said nothing, so Danika took that as a yes. She sent Gilbert a text, to which Gilbert replied, “Okay.”

She sighed in relief. If everyone could talk it out, things wouldn’t go south so quickly.

Eustace drove the Wagner siblings home and then left.

“Send me to my apartment. The one near the hospital,” Danika said.

However, Eustace didn’t listen to her. “You’re not thinking of living separately from me, are you?”
