Chapter 498 – The Regretful Billionaire: An Unpredicted Reunion

Unfortunately, faced with her pleading, Evan’s stony heart wasn’t the slightest bit moved. ‘Get out! Otherwise, don’t blame me for not upholding the last bit of courtesy toward you!’

“Evan!” Olivia gritted her teeth at him. At this moment, her hatred and resentment were magnified several times over.

Seeing that Olivia was about to rush over to Evan, Howard held her back and forcibly pulled her out of the castle. “Don’t be impulsive. Boss is angry right now. He’ll get even more infuriated if you go against him.”

“What do I do then? He’s going to kick me out!” Olivia cried. Right then, she was truly shattered.

Sighing helplessly, Howard wondered how things had turned out this way.” Alright. Here’s what we’ll do. You go to Duxdence and calm down for a few days, and I’ll talk to Boss.”

“Is there still a chance for me?” Olivia was unsure. Recalling Evan’s cold expression earlier, she felt that he would never let her return.

Howard wasn’t sure either, but he said, “Don’t worry. You and I are Boss’ most loyal followers. He won’t be that ruthless. But…you’ve really gone too far this time.’

“What did I do wrong? It’s all because I love him. If it weren’t for that, would I have done this?’ Olivia couldn’t accept it.

“You like Boss. We all know that. But he doesn’t like you, and you know that too. Boss likes Danika, and this was probably his only chance to be with her. But you went ahead and ruined his chances completely. Of course, he’s angry,” Howard said with another sigh.

Now that Danika had left, unless Evan went back to Bardoff City to look for her again, he probably wouldn’t have had another chance to come into contact with her again. On top of that, the chances of them meeting again were close to zero. With how things had turned out, Howard surmised that Evan wouldn’t go to Bardoff City to look for Danika again.

In fact, everyone knew that Danika didn’t like Evan. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t change that.

“I just thought that after Danika left, maybe he would look at me more after Danika left.’ Olivia didn’t know where she went wrong. Did all this misfortune happen to her simply because she loved him too much?

Howard could only persuade Olivia to leave for now. He then turned and went back to the castle. By then, Evan was no longer in the living room.

Howard sighed, seeing the light turned on in Danika’s room upstairs. It seemed that it would be a sleepless night for his boss.

In Danika’s room, Evan stood on the balcony silently.

Suddenly, his phone rang, which brought him back to reality. At that moment, he didn’t feel like answering the phone, but he still took it out for some reason.

It was an unfamiliar number. In this situation, he would just hang up, but today…

The call was connected, and it took a while before he tentatively asked,” Danika, is that you?”

“Yes, it’s me,” Danika answered. ‘Sorry for leaving without saying goodbye.”

Evan smiled bitterly. It was Danika; his intuition was pretty accurate.

“I understand. You never wanted to stay here,” Evan said solemnly, mocking himself. He’d been deceiving himself, thinking that if he worked hard enough, Danika might be willing to stay when he knew very well that she wouldn’t.

Why Did You Bring Me Here?

After a brief silence, Evan asked, ‘Was it Eustace who took you away?” “Yeah.” Danika didn’t hide anything. By then, they’d already crossed the borders of Monaerim. Even if Evan came after them, he wouldn’t be able to catch up.

“He’s the ultimate winner, it seems,” Evan lamented with a bitter smile. No matter how hard he tried, in Danika’s heart, Eustace was more important than him at the end of the day.

Danika was somewhat dissatisfied with this and corrected Evan’s words.” Neither of you won. I’m a person, not your trophy.”

“I didn’t mean that…”

“Evan, this is the last time I’ll call you and the last time I’ll contact you. I hope you wont contact me in the future either. This is good enough,” Danika declared. She sounded quite heartless when she said all that, but it had to be this way. She didn’t want Evan to continue to focus his energy on her, as it would only cause endless trouble.

Evan felt a piercing pain in his heart, feeling as if he’d been stabbed with a knife. ‘I understand what you mean.”

“That’s good,” Danika said with a nod. Finally, she said, “Take care of yourself.”

“Okay, you take care too.” Evan didn’t say anything more to persuade her and ended the call. He knew he couldn’t hold on to her. Even if he said they could still be friends in the future, Danika wouldn’t agree with him.

Their relationship had significantly changed since he left her on the island. Perhaps it was even earlier than that. The moment he went through with his plan to kidnap Danika and tried to keep her by his side by faking a crippling injury, they were destined not to be able to go back as they once were.

In Eldezar, a country far from Monaerim, Danika was sitting on a hotel bed.

She decided to make the last call to Evan on a whim, ending their years of friendship. After the call, she no longer had any grievances. Everything would be in the past, gone with the wind.

However, looking around and being reminded of where she was, Danika felt slightly exasperated and helpless. When they boarded the plane, Eustace didn’t tell her they weren’t going back to their home country, but rather to Lourdon in Eldezar.

The doorbell rang. Danika got up from the bed, opened the door, and wasn’t surprised to see Eustace standing at the door.

“Why did you bring me here? We should hurry back to Clusia. Gilbert and Zack must be worried sick,” Danika stated as she walked back to her room.

Eustace smiled and said, “Don’t worry, I’ve already informed them.”

Danika rolled her eyes but didn’t say anything more. “So, why did you bring me here?”

“You studied here before, right?” Eustace asked.

Danika nodded. She had gotten her Ph.D. in this city, so she was quite familiar with it.

“Well, why don’t you show me around? Since we’re already abroad, there’s no rush to go back,” Eustace said with a smile. He wanted to spend more time alone with Danika. However, he and Evan were fundamentally different. If Danika didn’t want to stay, he wouldn’t force her. He would book a flight back home with her right away.

Danika looked out the window and could see the Faire Tower clearly.

“Okay, I can be your tour guide for two days since you saved my life,” she said. She was wondering how she could repay Eustace for saving her; this was a good opportunity to show her gratitude.

After changing their clothes and having breakfast at the hotel, they headed toward the famous Faire Tower. Danika was surprised that Eustace was interested in it.

“You’re interested in this thing? There’s nothing much to see here,” she said.

“Traveling is about going from places that we’re tired of to places that other people are tired of,” Eustace replied.

Danika didn’t refuse and went along with Eustace’s plan. After all, she was only a tour guide for the next two days, so she would do whatever he wanted.

Be My Girlfriend

As it was very early in the morning, there weren’t many tourists at the Faire Tower. Only two or three people were around, and it was quite serene. Eustace looked up at the iron tower in front of him and asked, “Can we go up?”

“We can. Do you want to go up?” Danika thought Eustace was just there to take a look, but she didn’t expect him to have the intention of ascending the tower. Could he have really come here to travel as a tourist?

Eustace nodded and looked at Danika hopefully. “Since we’re here, let’s go up and take a look.”

“Since we’re here,” was what all tourists would say.

Danika had actually been there before. She’d come excitedly in her first year of studying abroad since it was a famous landmark many said one should visit at least once in a lifetime.

“Okay.” She nodded and led Eustace up the iron tower.

There was an elevator, and it was fast. In no time, they were standing on top of the tower. They could easily see the whole city in its splendor from their position.

“This city is still the same as before. Not much has changed,” Danika sighed. It was a huge contrast from Bardoff City. If she left for a few years, Bardoff City would definitely be different by the time she came back.

Eustace nodded. “Yeah.”

“Let’s go down after we’ve had enough of the scenery here. Since you want to travel, there are many other places we should visit,” Danika said, turning around to leave.

Unexpectedly, Eustace grabbed her wrist and stopped her from leaving.” What’s the hurry? Let’s look for a while longer.’

Danika wondered what else was there to see. Helpless, she had no choice but to continue to stand and look into the distance.

Before she realized it, Eustace had moved behind her and gently called her name, “Danika.”

Danika turned around and was astonished to see Eustace kneeling on one knee, holding a ring in his hand. He said, “Be my girlfriend.”

Danika quickly came back to her senses. Luckily no one was around; otherwise, she would be embarrassed. “Are you confessing or proposing?”

“Either one is fine. If you’re okay with it, I can propose too.” Eustace smiled.

Danika rolled her eyes at him. “Dream on.”

“Danika, just give me an answer. Are you willing to be my girlfriend? I’m still kneeling here.” Eustace couldn’t help but laugh bitterly. He was quite confident before, but now he had no idea if Danika would accept him since she still hadn’t given him a concrete answer.

With a slight smile, Danika said with dissatisfaction, “Since you want me to be your girlfriend, it wouldn’t hurt to kneel for a while more. Show me more sincerity.”

“If you promise to be my girlfriend, I’ll kneel however long you want me to,” Eustace replied hurriedly. He didn’t have a problem with kneeling; he was just afraid Danika wouldn’t say yes to him.

Instead of answering, Danika took the ring from his hand. “Didn’t you give me a New Year’s gift before? I thought you were going to confess with that ring.”

“I didn’t think that ring was good enough. This one is even prettier.’ Only the most beautiful ring was worthy of Danika in his eyes.

Although Danika didn’t say anything, the corners of her mouth that lifted up revealed her true thoughts. She was utterly delighted.

She returned the ring to Eustace and instructed, “Here, put it on for me.”

Eustace was so overjoyed that he cried, and in his flustered state, he helped Danika put on the ring. He was even shaking a little bit.

Danika couldn’t help but laugh. “Why are you so nervous? It’s like you’re eighteen.’

“Hey, it’s my first confession. It’s natural to be nervous.” Eustace couldn’t remember if they had ever confessed their love for each other before, but he felt certain that he’d never prepared as carefully as he did this time, and he’d never been as nervous as he was a moment ago.

Perhaps that was just how people were-they never realized how precious something was until they’d lost it. He looked at the person in his arms and silently vowed to never let go of Danika again.

I’ll Be Better in the Future

“Hey, my darling, Danika.” “Hey, my darling, Eustace.’

It was still daytime in Lourdon, but it was already night in Bardoff City. Hundreds of people were simply scrolling mindlessly online, and when they saw the news, they instantly perked up and grabbed their popcorn.

“Has Mr. Quincey finally found his princess?”
