“About what happened before…I’m sorry.

She was never someone who liked to apologize.

If Danika hadn’t come to her today and told her these things, she might have never said sorry in her entire life.

Danika smiled at her.

She stood up and patted her shoulder.

“It’s all in the past. You’re about to start a new life.”

Shameless!

Marigold thought she was about to start anew, but when Gilbert approached her, she realized that starting a new life was harder than she had imagined.

“Whose child is it?” Gilbert asked her coldly.

Although Danika said he would talk to Marigold for him, he wasn’t reassured by how she reacted to the situation.

Therefore, he decided to talk to Marigold himself.

Marigold noticed the frosty look he was giving her.

Feeling a little nervous, she clenched her fists beneath the table.

“It’s not yours anyway. Why are you so worked up over the situation?”

“Since it’s not mine, why did you lie about it?”

Gilbert continued to frown. He had been staring at Marigold, trying to see through her.

However, Marigold put up a good fight as she knew that if Gilbert knew the child was his, he would not allow her to give birth to the child safely.

“At first, I thought of using the child to tie you down, but after Danika talked to me, I knew that it wouldn’t work, so I stopped lying,” Marigold said with a light laugh.

Frowning, Gilbert wondered whether she was telling the truth.

After a while, his gaze softened a little.

“So, whose child is it?”

“Well…I don’t know,” Marigold said with an embarrassed smile.

“I drank too much when I went to the bar to have fun. When I woke up, the man had already left, and I didn’t know who he was.”

“Shameless!”

Gilbert spat.

Marigold didn’t refute. She even nodded and said, “Yes, that’s what I am.It’s not like you didn’t know that before.”

“Even though you don’t know who the father is, you still want to give birth to the child?”

Gilbert seemed unable to understand her decision.

“No matter who the father is, I am still its mother. Why can’t I give birth to my child?” Marigold retorted.

Could she not raise a child? Gilbert still failed to understand her.

Have you thought about how much criticism you will receive as a single mother?”

Marigold shrugged, looking unconcerned.

“I don’t care.”

Gilbert wanted to say more, but Marigold didn’t give him a chance.

“Why do you suddenly care so much about me? Are you in love with me?”

“In love with you? Ridiculous.”

Gilbert glanced at her, wondering how Marigold had the nerve to say such a thing.

“Since you don’t love me, what does it matter to you if I carry the child or not?”

Marigold retorted rudely. She had given up on getting Gilbert to like her.

Although she still felt sad, she felt much better now.

With an ugly expression, Gilbert sneered, “I’m afraid you will come up with some scheme after giving birth to the child.”

In other words, he was afraid that Marigold would pester him.

Marigold understood the meaning behind his words, causing a bitter feeling in her heart.

Despite that, she didn’t allow it to show on her face.

“Don’t worry, I’m about to become a mother and won’t bother you anymore.Besides, I don’t think you’re that great now,” thuy she added, fearing that he wouldn’t believe her and made a point of emphasizing it.

Somehow, upon hearing Marigold’s words, Gilbert felt a little worried instead of feeling relieved.

But he didn’t pay much attention to it.

Since he had already received the answer he wanted, he didn’t plan to continue talking to Marigold.

“In that case, I hope you keep your promise,” he said.

Standing Up

After Gilbert left, Marigold remained there. There was a warm sensation on the back of her hand, and when she lowered her head to look, she realized that it was her own tears.

“Why are you crying? What’s there to cry about?” she muttered to herself, wiping away the tears at the corner of her eyes and putting on a smile.

Aside from her child, there was nothing in the world that deserved her attention and energy. She lowered her head and caressed her stomach.” My child, from now on, you will be my rock.”

She was already looking forward to the birth of her child. Even if she encountered many criticisms in the future, she would not be shaken.

When Eustace returned home from work, he was surprised to see Howard waiting for him at his door.

“Mr. Quincey, Evan would like to see you.”

Eustace glanced at Evan’s house and frowned. “Must I visit him just because he wants to see me? Who does he think he is?”

Howard didn’t stop him from leaving. He merely said, “Evan said that if you want him to accept treatment, you must visit him.”

Eustace stopped in his tracks. What could Evan want from him? Could he have suddenly had a change of heart and wanted Dr. Gaarder to examine his injuries?

Eustace wasn’t sure, but he had to take the risk. “Great.”

He followed Howard to Evan’s place but didn’t see anyone in the living room. “Where is everyone?” He eyed Howard suspiciously, worried that Evan might have set a trap for him.

“He is in the study,” Howard replied, leading Eustace upstairs.

Although Eustace was wary, he still followed him. He had to find out what Evan was up to. If he really wanted to attack him, he would have already done so.

Howard pushed open the door of the study and announced, “Mr. Quincey is here.”

“Alright, you can go out first,” Evan said, waving Howard away.

Howard turned and left, closing the door behind him.

Eustace looked at Evan, sitting in a wheelchair not far away. In an unfriendly tone, he asked, “What do you want from me?”

“Eustace, aren’t you curious why I refused to let Dr. Gaarder check my injuries? ” Evan flashed a smile that Eustace couldn’t decipher.

“At first, I was curious, but now I’m sure you’re not injured. You’re just pretending,” Eustace replied. Although he had no evidence, he was sure he was right.

He expected Evan to argue with him, but Evan nodded in agreement.” You’re right, I’m not injured.”

Eustace was shocked. Before he could react, Evan stood up from the wheelchair and sauntered toward him, looking completely fine.

After recovering from his shock, Eustace’s mood worsened with each passing moment. “Evan! You deceived Danika!”

“Yes, and what about it? Do you have evidence?” Evan didn’t deny it and looked at Eustace, challenging him.

Eustace couldn’t stand it anymore. He grabbed him and said, “I’ll take you to the hospital for a checkup, and then I’ll have the evidence.”

Since Evan showed his true colors, Eustace wouldn’t hold back. He didn’t need Dr. Gaarder to check his injuries. He just needed a reliable doctor to do the checkup, and Evan’s lie would be exposed.

Evan didn’t resist. He allowed Eustace to drag him out of the house, wearing a little smile that Eustace didn’t notice.

Don’t Even Dream About It

To Eustace’s surprise, Evan began to resist as soon as they left the room, which was strange because he didn’t try to resist him in the study.

“Eustace, do you think I will go to the hospital with you? Don’t even dream about it,” Evan said with a cold sneer before lying down in the corridor.

Despite that, Eustace was determined to drag him to the hospital. He wanted to see how Evan could spin another lie when Danika was informed of his lack of injuries. However, Evan refused to stand up, so Eustace pulled him up and dragged him downstairs.
