“I’ll drive you home.”

“Okay,” she agreed, but not without some anxiety.

They left the hospital in his car and spent the entire journey in silence.

She wrongly believed that Paul would keep the pregnancy a secret from Gilbert, and she sighed in relief.

Little did she know that Paul would not let her be taken advantage of.

Since she was pregnant with Gilbert’s child, he’d want Gilbert to take full responsibility.

The question was how, and Paul needed time to think and come up with a plan.

After sending Marigold home, Paul didn’t head back to the office.

Instead, he started smoking at the entrance of her apartment, appearing to be deep in thought.

The morning was gone in the blink of an eye.

After Danika was done seeing patients, she was about to have lunch at the cafeteria.

That was the time she received a call from Paul.

“What do you want?”

She was hostile to Paul, especially after learning that he had planned to get rid of Leonard Sullivan. Paul didn’t mind the hostility and smiled.

“I’m in the cafe across from the hospital.Let’s have a chat.”

“I’m busy,” she turned him down almost immediately, thinking he’d be begging her to talk to Stephanie.

She would never agree to do that for him.

“Don’t worry. This has nothing to do with Stephanie,”

Paul added, much to Danika’s surprise. She was hesitant.

“Just tell me over the phone. We don’t need to meet up.”

She needed lunch and had no time for a coffee session with him.

“Are you sure you don’t want to meet, even if it has to do with Gilbert Hawthorn?” he smirked.

It seemed that none of the siblings thought much about Marigold.

Even though he was cold- hearted and never connected much with his siblings, Marigold was the only family he had a good relationship with, and he would not sit out on the matter of her pregnancy.

“Gilbert?” She frowned.

“Are you going to discuss him with me?”

That was quite ridiculous because she didn’t remember Paul having any interactions with Gilbert.

“Yes,” he admitted.

“Come over.You won’t be disappointed.”

Not only would she not be disappointed, she’d be astonished to learn the truth. He decided against telling Gilbert because, knowing that man, the first thing he’d do was to secretly get Marigold an abortion.

Therefore, he turned to Danika instead.

Paul knew bits and pieces about the three siblings.

Once Danika learned about the pregnancy, she would not allow Gilbert to abort the child.

Her chest tightened as she stared at her phone, sensing the brewing storm in his words.

Something to do with Gilbert? What was Paul trying to tell her? She had no answer to that, but she could not possibly ignore Paul now.

So, she made her decision and left the hospital for the cafe. She found it hard to stay out of matters concerning Gilbert.

Gilbert’s Child

When Danika met Paul, he had already ordered a cup of coffee for himself, as if he was confident she would come.

“Okay, what’s the matter?”

Danika sat down across from him.

Not in the mood to talk, she was eagerly waiting for their conversation to end so she could return to lunch.

Paul glanced at her.

He wasn’t put off by her attitude.

After all, the two of them had always been like that, as they couldn’t stand each other.

After taking a sip of coffee, he asked, “Did you know that Marigold is pregnant?”

Danika was taken aback.

“I do.”

“You knew?” Paul frowned.

“Well, when she visited me in the morning, she told me she had a headache. However, she refused a brain CT scan because she was pregnant, so I prescribed some painkillers for her.”

Danika didn’t think she had any reason to hide it from Paul.

The revelation shocked Paul, and it took him a while to recover.

“That idiot!” he thought.

She did that for her child? A child that its father wouldn’t accept.

Paul couldn’t understand why she planned to see the pregnancy to completion.

When he remained silent, Danika asked, “Why did you look for me? If it’s about Marigold, then it has nothing to do with me.You can solve your family matters by yourself.”

“It has nothing to do with you?”

Paul was angry when he heard that.

Danika could sense he was mad though she couldn’t tell why.

“Of course not? Why would it have anything to do with me?”

Paul snorted and fixed his cold gaze on her, “Do you know whose child she’s carrying?”

“Well, I asked her, but she didn’t tell me.In any case, it can’t be mine.”

Danika couldn’t figure out why Paul was telling her all that, nor did she care.

She wasn’t interested in whatever went on in Marigold’s life, let alone the child in her womb.

Paul gave her a hard look and asked, “Who do you think the father is?”

Danika was about to get angry and tell him she didn’t know.

However, due to the look in his eyes, an idea formed in her head.

However, she quickly denied the possibility.

Paul noticed the change in her expression, and before Danika could answer, he said, “It seems that you already have the answer.”

Danika opened her mouth to speak but couldn’t form any words.

“To be honest, I was shocked when I found out,” Paul continued.

“For one, I’m shocked that Gilbert can do such a thing.I’m also shocked that there are such stupid people in my family! First, she allowed Gilbert to take advantage of her, and now that she’s pregnant with his child, she plans to give birth and raise it by herself. How stupid can she be!”

It took a while for Danika to recover from the shock.

“You’re saying that Gilbert is the child’s father?”

“Marigold likes your elder brother. It’s not like you don’t know that.”

As Marigold had pestered Gilbert and troubled Danika several times, Paul had sent her abroad.

Never had Paul expected that Marigold would go looking for Gilbert who happened to be abroad.

Paul didn’t know what transpired between them both when they were abroad nor did he bother to investigate.

It was not important to him.

What was important was that Gilbert was the child’s father, and hence had to take responsibility for his actions.

As a daughter of the Wagners, she wasn’t required to continue the family’s bloodline.
