Zack hadn’t encountered any major difficulties in life so far and had quite a smooth journey.
Although people like him were blessed and lived a happy life, they weren’t exposed to the dangers of the world.
Gilbert thought it was time for him to suffer and learn from his mistakes.
Before Danika could ask what was going on, Gilbert hung up the phone.
Taken aback by the situation, Danika continued to stare at her phone in confusion.
“What’s wrong?”
Eustace was next to her and naturally heard Gilbert’s words.
Danika shook her head and didn’t say anything to him.
Instead, she got up, walked out of the private room, and dialed Zack’s number.
“Zack, where are you?” Danika asked.
“Hey, Danika.Janet and I are looking for a place to eat.Have you eaten yet? Why don’t you join us?”
From the other end of the phone, Zack sounded cheerful and unaffected, as if nothing had happened.
Danika couldn’t fathom what was going on.
“you should go ahead and eat, but can you meet me after? Alone.I’ll send you the address.”
Danika felt she should talk to Zack even though Gilbert told her not to interfere.
After all, he was her brother.
How could she sit by and do nothing about it? Zack glanced at Janet sitting beside him and thought of Danika’s request to meet him alone.He could already guess what was going on.
“Alright, I’ll meet up with you later after I finish eating.”
Since he agreed to meet, Danika didn’t say anything else.She ended their call and returned to the private room.
They were almost done with their meal.
Max and Jade wanted to see a movie.
As Danika had asked Zack to meet up with her, she decided not to join them and asked Eustace to send her home instead.
Eustace didn’t question her choice and silently drove her home.
“Is it because of Zack and Janet’s situation?” Eustace asked.
Danika glanced at him with slightly widened eyes, seemingly surprised that he knew what was happening.
“I heard you mention something about this before, so I could roughly guess what’s going on,”
Eustace replied with a smile.He could tell that Danika was worried for Zack since the woman he was seeing might have approached him with impure intentions.
Danika sighed, looking at the snowy landscape outside the window and feeling glum.
“I think he probably had a fight with Gilbert.”
And she could tell it was quite a big one, or Gilbert wouldn’t be so angry.
“It’s normal.People in love won’t listen.You better not cling to the idea of making him give up,” Eustace advised.
“But..do we really just let them be? If we don’t stop them now, what if they get more deeply involved in the future?”
Danika was puzzled.She didn’t want to argue with Zack, but she thought some things still needed to be said.
Eustace looked at her and shook his head helplessly.
“You can’t stop them from being in a relationship simply because you want to.Are you really so confident that you can make Zack give up on this?”
Danika shook her head—she wasn’t sure.
“If you advise him to give up now, he will go against your wishes instead,” Eustace said.
Danika felt a headache coming and rubbed her temples.
“What should we do then? We can’t just do nothing about it, can we?”
“Why rush? They’re just boyfriend and girlfriend now.It’s hard to say whether they can stay together.If you want to stop them, at least wait until they intend to get married,” Eustace replied.
Danika thought what he said made sense.
“I’m just afraid that Zack will get more and more invested in his relationship with her.”
If that were the case, by the time Zack decided to settle down with Janet, Danika wouldn’t be able to stop them even if she wanted to.
The Talk
“Have you seen many people who can make it to the end with their first love?”
When Eustace asked that question, he lamented the fact that, despite his undying love for Danika, they had yet to begin dating.
Sometimes, being together for a long time didn’t necessarily lead to marriage; instead, it gave rise to a lot of conflicts between a couple.
Danika thought Eustace had a point.
“Hmm…you’re right.It seems Gilbert and I were a little too anxious.”
“Although you consider Zack your older brother, he’s actually not as mature as you are.This is typical rebellious behavior—the more you try to stop him, the more he wants to be with that woman.So, when you see him later, it’s best to just ask what happened between him and Gilbert and not say much about wanting him to give up on her,” Eustace advised.
Danika nodded.
“Okay, I understand.”
As they spoke, the car had already entered the parking lot of the residential complex.
They walked into the elevator, and Danika was still thinking about what to say to Zack when she saw him later.
Initially, she had the same idea of trying to get Zack to give up on Janet, just like Gilbert.
However, after hearing Eustace’s opinion on the situation and taking into account Gilbert’s moody tone when he called her, Danika wasn’t sure if objecting to Zack’s relationship with Janet was the right thing to do.
If she did, she might end up arguing with Zack Although they were siblings and had a close relationship, arguing with each other could put a strain on their relationship.
If possible, Danika didn’t want to fight with Zack.
“We’re here,” Eustace said, bringing her back to reality.
Danika returned to her senses.
She walked out of the elevator and opened the door to her home.
‘Well…you should go get some rest.”
“Okay.Knock on my door if you need anything.I’ll be around to help.”
Eustace smiled at her, trying to ease her nervousness.He knew Danika valued Zack and didn’t want to damage their relationship.
That was why he went out of his way to give her some advice.
Danika thanked him, then went inside and waited for Zack’s arrival.
Half an hour later, Zack knocked on her door.
“You’re here.” Danika opened the door and saw that he had come alone.She breathed a sigh of relief, glad he listened to her and didn’t bring Janet along.
Although she’d asked him to come alone, she wasn’t sure if he would really listen.
Fortunately, it wasn’t that hopeless yet.
It was the first time Zack had come to Danika’s place, and he was surprised.
“This place is so small.Why aren’t you living in Zellweger Castle?”
“I live alone, so it doesn’t matter where I live.This place is close to the hospital; it’s more convenient for work,” Danika replied.
Zack sat down as Danika poured him a glass of water.
“I heard from Gilbert that you’ve moved out.Where are you living now?” Danika asked.
“I bought a house near my company.It’s more convenient for work as well,” Zack said.
If Zack wasn’t in a relationship with Janet, he would probably still be living with Gilbert.
But now that he had a girlfriend, it was a bit inconvenient for him to live with his brother.
Danika nodded and drank her water while thinking about how to bring up the topic.
Zack looked at her and smiled helplessly.
