The past was in the past, and she would create a new chapter in life together with

Max.

Jade nodded, her eyes showing some anticipation for the future. She could really start a new life with someone who loved and cherished her.

She turned to look at Danika gratefully. “Danika, thank you.”

“Why are you thanking me?” Danika was puzzled.

“If it weren’t for you dealing with Hayden, I would have taken a long time to get over him.”

Jade knew that Hayden had been imprisoned and his company had been acquired by

Danika and merged into Jeneration Group. Jade was able to let go of all the hurt he’d caused her sooner because he got the ultimate retribution he deserved.

As the saying goes, “An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.” Once revenge was served on the one who caused all the misery, the scores were settled, and life would move on.

Danika chuckled at her words. “What can I say? He deserved it.”

“You’re right. He deserved every bit of it,” Jade agreed. Her gaze drifted over to Max, who was standing behind them with Eustace, and she had a soft look in her eyes.

She turned back and asked Danika, “What about you? When do you plan to start again?”

“Me?” Danika didn’t expect Jade to ask about her suddenly. She pursed her lips and said contemplatively, “Maybe soon, or maybe…it’ll remain like this.”

He’s Changed a Lot

Danika’s answer was as ambiguous as it could get, and Jade didn’t interrogate her further.

At the end of the day, it was Danika and Eustace’s business; as an outsider, it wasn’t appropriate for Jade to be too nosy.

“Come on.Let’s go for a meal together.”

Max walked over to them. He’d really pull out all the stops for his confession to Jade that day.

Danika quickly waved her hands back and forth, declining the offer, and said, “I don’t think that’s a good idea.We shouldn’t interfere with your first date.”

Max and Jade had just started dating.

Danika felt it wasn’t good for her and Eustace to tag along and intrude on the new couple’s precious first moments together after their love had just blossomed and bore fruit.

“What are you all concerned about? We’re just going to eat.” Max glanced at her.He didn’t make plans for another round of romantic gestures for Jade at the restaurant.

Instead, he merely intended to treat Danika and Eustace to a meal and thank them for coming over.

Danika was still hesitant, but Jade said, “Come on, Danika. It’s the best time to have fondue with this heavy snowfall.”

When Jade put it that way, Danika was instantly tempted by her suggestion.

She looked at Eustace and asked, “Are you going?”

“Sure, I’ll go.”

Eustace nodded in confirmation. He knew that if he said he wasn’t, Danika wouldn’t go either.

Since he said he was going, Danika had no reason to refuse.

Everyone followed Max and left the park.

They then drove toa famous fondue restaurant in Bardoff City.

After they left, the central park was officially opened to visitors.

The decorations Max put up for his confession earlier attracted the park visitors, and they soon crowded the place to take pictures.

It became a popular spot for taking photos instantly.

On the way to the fondue restaurant, Max and Jade’s car drove ahead, with Eustace’s car following from behind.

Danika sat in the front passenger seat of Eustace’s car as usual.

She glanced at Eustace beside her, driving the car, and couldn’t help but say, “It seems like your relationship with Max now is much better than when you were both in Parrington.”

“Yeah.Maybe it’s because of Mortimer.”

Eustace didn’t deny it.

Max didn’t really hate the Quinceys; he hated Mortimer and his own mother.

Now, Max’s mother had passed away, and Mortimer was lying in a vegetative state in a hospital bed.

If he still refused to let go of his hatred and sought vengeance on the Quinceys, the hatred would consume him, and he would never be able to overcome his demons and start anew.

The moment he decided to confess to Jade, he’d already decided to let go of the past and start a new life.

“Is he still in a coma?”

Danika hadn’t paid much attention to Mortimer.

Alfred hardly mentioned him in front of her, let alone Eustace.

Eustace nodded and didn’t show any emotions. It was as if Mortimer was just a stranger to him.

With that, they fell silent, and neither spoke again for the rest of the journey.

Fortunately, their car pulled up at the doorstep of the fondue restaurant in no time.

It seemed many people had the same idea to come and enjoy the bubbling hot fondue on a cold winter’s day, so business at the restaurant was booming—they had to wait for a table.

Danika didn’t mind, though, as delicious food was always worth the wait.

However, Max couldn’t bear to let Jade wait since it was a special day for the both of them.

Danika didn’t know what he did, but soon, they got a private room.

As they sat down, the warmth from the heater dissipated the chill from their bodies.

At the dining table, Danika watched as Max carefully asked Jade what she liked to eat.

He was entirely different from his previous wayward self —no trace of his old self could be seen.

Danika couldn’t help but sigh at the power of love that could change a person completely.

“I don’t like how you keep staring at him like that.”

Eustace leaned over and whispered in her ear.

Danika snapped out of her thoughts and responded, “I just think he’s changed a lot.”

Eustace was quick to joke.

“True. He’s unlike me, who has been consistently great.”

Danika rolled her eyes and stood up.

“I’ll go get the dipping sauce for you.”

Listen to What You’re Saying!

Soon, Eustace had a plate of dipping sauce in front of him, but he smelled the strong acidic vinegar and was momentarily at a loss for words.

“Is this the dipping sauce you brought me?”

“Don’t you like vinegar, just like how you like sour grapes?” Danika asked with an innocent look on her face, seemingly puzzled about what the problem was.

Eustace was speechless.

Of course, he was well aware that Danika was implying his jealousy was unwarranted. He could only force a smile and reply, “Yes, you’re right.I do like sour stuff.”

Max and Jade, sitting across from them, couldn’t hear their conversation, but they could see the way they spoke softly to each other, like they were in their own little world.

Their interactions went beyond that of a normal friendship.

“Have they gotten back together?” Max asked, looking at them quizzically.

They looked more like a couple than he and Jade did.

Jade chuckled and didn’t know what to say.

“I don’t think so.”

“Hmm…”

Max snorted humorlessly, wondering how much longer they planned to keep up that “more than friends but not quite lovers” act.

Soon, the fondue was served.

None of them were particularly fond of fruits, but they thought they should still eat some because only eating bread and meat with cheese would be too heavy on their palates.
