Must You Talk About That Right Now?
“She’s Danika Zellweger. A friend of mine.’ Christopher introduced her without elaborating, not wanting Alexandra to know too much.
A friend?
A woman’s intuition was always accurate. Alexandra could tell from the look in
Christopher’s eyes that he treated Danika differently. Although they weren’t doing anything out of line, she felt threatened.
“Hello, I am Christopher’s girlfriend, Alexandra.” Alexandra reached out her hand to
Danika and smiled sweetly.
Although Danika was surprised that Christopher had a girlfriend, she didn’t ask any questions. She felt it was good that he had a girlfriend around him so he wouldn’t be too sad.
She reached out and shook hands with Alexandra. “Hello.”
“Christopher’s friend is my friend too. Let’s hang out together in the future,” Alexandra said.
Danika nodded and said, “Then I’ll go first.”
“Okay.” Christopher nodded and watched her leave.
After she left, Alexandra looked at Christopher and asked, “She’s from the Zellweger family, right?”
There weren’t many people with the surname Zellweger in Bardoff City, so her guess couldn’t be far off. Although Christopher ignored her, Alexandra remained very invested in the topic. “Is she the current head of the Zellwegers? N
The average person didn’t know much about the Zellweger family’s affairs, but those from bigger families like them knew quite a bit.
Christopher turned to look at her, his expression cold. “Must you talk about that right now?”
His grandfather had just passed away, so he wasn’t in the mood to talk about anything else. He just wanted to send him off properly.
Alexandra covered her mouth and knew she had crossed the line. “Sorry, I was just curious.”
“Curiosity killed the cat.” Christopher’s tone was cold, but that was all he said.
He understood Alexandra well. Given that she had been spoiled and pampered by her family since she was a child, she had no empathy for others. While she appeared sad, he knew she wasn’t really upset.
However, he wasn’t concerned about that. After all, he was sure Harvey wouldn’t want others to be sad over him. Nonetheless, Alexandra shouldn’t be asking so many irrelevant questions.
He sent Alexandra off, refusing to let her remain in the hospital. Then, he began to make arrangements for his grandfather’s funeral.
Danika returned to the doctor’s office with Harvey’s words still in her mind. Then, she called her father to tell him about the news she had just received, which might help them find her mother.
The call quickly connected, but Graham seemed busy on the other end.” What’s wrong, Danika? Did something happen?”
“No, I just want to ask if you’ve made any progress,” Danika said.
“I guess so. I found someone from the past,” Graham said. He was on his way to meet that person.
Danika was surprised that he managed to find the person from a decades- old picture.
She had to admit she was impressed. Then she told Graham what Harvey had said. “I was thinking, since Mother was willing to leave with those people, does that mean she knew them?”
“Perhaps.” Graham agreed because he also thought so too.
“Is it possible that those people are her family?” Danika made a bold guess. According to what Harvey said, she thought it was very likely.
Perhaps Lynette had escaped from her family but was found by the family members after giving birth to Danika.
Graham fell silent, seeming to be deep in thought. After a while, he finally replied,
“That’s not impossible, but if she’s from a big family, I would have known.”
He had a photo of Danika’s mother and her name. Given his abilities and connections, finding anyone in the country would be very easy. However, he didn’t gain any clues over all the years.
“So there are only two possibilities, either someone is hiding her. Or, she was just an ordinary person. Perhaps she’s someone from a small village, and that’s why we can’t find her,” Danika said
An Utter Jerk
Rural villages often had no internet connection, and little was known about it, making it difficult for anyone outside to find information. It made Danika think that Lynette might have come from a rural village.
If that really was the case, it would be difficult to find Lynette.
“There’s no way your mother is from some rural village,” Graham said confidently.
Danika remained silent, waiting for him to continue. “Although she has not specifically told me about her family, given her behavior and how she recognized various brands, she should be from a well-to-do family.”
He remembered that he had given Lynette many things, including some famous brands and even some expensive but niche brands, but Lynette could recognize them all, which proved that she had exposure to those things.
“If that’s the case, there is only one possibility.”
Someone was hiding Lynette’s identity, which made it impossible for them to find her.
Graham turned solemn as he knew anyone who could do that had to have a powerful background. After all, the Zellwegers was already one of the Ten Elites of Bardoff City, if not the whole country. It was rare for anyone to be able to hide information from them.
After a long time, Graham sighed. “I will continue to investigate. After I meet that person today, I should be able to know everything.”
“Okay, be careful,” Danika was worried that something might go wrong.
After hanging up, Danika also searched online for any traces of Lynette, but as
Graham said, there was no information to be found, not even when she searched the surname, York.
Her thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door. A patient had pressed the call button, and she got up and walked out of the office, no longer dwelling on Lynette’s matter.
When she arrived at the ward, Danika was surprised to see that Helga had pressed the call button. She looked like she had just cried.
“What’s wrong?” Danika asked, noticing a man next to her bed.
Seeing Danika, Helga felt very guilty. “Dr. Zellweger, it’s nothing. I pressed the wrong button.”
Before Danika could say anything, the man said, “No, I pressed the button. You must be Danika Zellweger?”
Danika frowned. “Are you Hugo Hansel?”
She remembered Helga’s husband’s name, although she wasn’t sure if the man in front of her was him.
“Yes.” He nodded, confirming Danika’s guess.
“What’s the matter? Don’t you know that you’re not allowed to disturb a patient’s rest?”
Danika was displeased. Helga would have surgery soon, and any disturbance could have serious consequences.
Hugo didn’t care what Danika said. He pointed at Helga and said, “The divorce coolingoff period has ended, but she still doesn’t want to divorce. What does she want? Does she want to siphon everything from my family?”
He had already spent a lot of money paying for Helga’s treatment and didn’t want to spend any more.
“I’ve already told you. I didn’t mean to not go. I’m in the hospital, can’t you see?”
Helga’s heart felt cold and heavy. She couldn’t understand how she could have been attracted to a man like that in the first place.
She tolerated his mistress, who was impatient to replace her. She was willing to divorce her scum of a husband, but she was still hospitalized. She had promised to go and handle the divorce procedures once she was discharged, but Hugo still urged her and insisted that she go that day.
Frustrated, she cried. She couldn’t understand how the man managed to be such an utter jerk
Don’t Get Too Worked Up
Hugo didn’t care.
“How dare you delay the divorce just because you’re hospitalized? How much time would it take for you to sign the papers? I think you just don’t want to leave and want to keep spending my family’s money!”
“Hugo!” Helga was exasperated, and her chest was heaving violently. ‘ How much of your money have I spent? How can you be so heartless?”
She only spent the money she earned and hadn’t spent a single dime while staying in the hospital. How could he say such things without betraying his conscience?
“Don’t get too worked up.” Danika walked over to calm Helga down. She looked at
Hugo and said coldly, “Given her current condition, she cannot be discharged. Are you willing to be responsible if something happens to her?”
“What can happen? I think you’re just taking her side.” Hugo muttered softly. He was not as harsh toward Danika as with Helga, but he still wasn’t polite to her.
Helga was so furious that she began coughing violently.
Danika knew that things couldn’t go on like that. Hence, she looked at Helga and asked, “Do you want a divorce?”
“I do. Why wouldn’t I?” She didn’t want to spend even a day more with that jerk.
“Okay, I’ll take you there.” With her around, she could be rescued in time, even if something unexpected happened.
The most important thing was that if they didn’t solve the divorce issue, Hugo would frequently come to the hospital to cause trouble, which would be very detrimental to
Helga.
Helga nearly cried when she heard that. “Dr. Zellweger, it would be such a hassle for you…”
“It’s okay. It’s not a problem.” Danika shook her head and looked at Hugo. “Did you bring the divorce papers?”
