“It’s none of your business. Now get back inside!”

The man slammed the door shut in front of her, stopping her from leaving.

Stephanie sighed and went to sit back down. She couldn’t calm down anymore, especially after seeing Eustace run past in that short minute the door was open.

Did Danika ask Eustace to save her? The more Stephanie thought about it, the more guilty she felt. She’d never be able to forgive herself if Danika and Eustace got hurt because of her.

Out in the gardens, Eustace and Evan were now hiding behind some cover.

“If this goes on, neither of us is gonna make it out alive,” Evan snapped, shooting behind him before turning back to Eustace.

“Don’t worry. We’ll be alright.” Eustace seemed confident, as if he’d already prepared for the worst.

Lousy Brat

Eustace had already told Vincent to bring backup besides notifying Evan.

They should be there any minute now.

Sure enough, another wave of reinforcements arrived, but they were neither Eustace’s men nor anyone else’s there.

When police sirens followed them, everyone froze in sheer shock.

Zeke would’ve handled the police accordingly if he’d planned to kill Eustace today, so they wouldn’t have come even if someone had called for them, nor if they’d heard the hundreds of gunshots.

Yet right now, with the large police force at their doorstep, it was evident they’d come prepared for the gunfight.

Eustace swiftly tossed away his handguns, even removing his prints from them.

Evan’s mouth twitched, annoyed, but he did the same.

He then had his men disperse before the police barged into the premises.

Luckily for them, Luke and his men were still recovering from the shock.

Hence, they didn’t escape first thing.

That, or they assumed the police wouldn’t do anything to them.

Just as they were aiming for Eustace, the police came and surrounded them.

“Put your weapons down!”

A police officer barked out, gun pointing right at Luke’s chest.

Luke blinked, confused.

Did the police not know when he was? How dare they speak to him like this? “I’m the Quincey family’s—“

Before he could finish, Zeke marched out of his little hideout, to everyone’s surprise.

Just as Luke thought his grandfather might be there to help placate the police, the old man went to give him a tight slap across the cheek.

Luke was left reeling from the pain and shock, now more confused than ever.

“Lousy brat!” Zeke cried angrily.

“Grandad, I—“

“Shut the hell up!”

Zeke growled out before Luke could say anything else.He then turned to the police officer.

The officer before Luke was none other than the new Deputy Commissioner of Police of Bardoff City, Leonard Sullivan. He didn’t have strong ties to any of the families in Bardoff City, so he wouldn’t hesitate to bring down the law on anyone who committed a crime, rich or not.

Zeke never expected him to be there.

In fact, he’d informed Leonard’s superior of his intentions today.

“My grandson is responsible for this, Mr.Sullivan.He’s held a bitter grudge against his cousin Eustace ever since his father passed. That’s why he organized this ‘event’ today. It was my fault for not stopping him from going this far,”

Zeke sighed, playing the victim.

Luke’s eyes grew to the size of saucers upon hearing that.

How was he responsible for all this?? He’d only been listening to his grandfather’s orders! Luke wanted to say the same, but Zeke’s butler quickly shot him a stern look, shutting him up once again.

If he spoke up now, he’d put their entire family at risk.

Leonard knew who Zeke was but still didn’t care.

“We’ll see who’s telling the truth after our investigation.”

No one there was going to escape under his watch. He thought it was time those pompous Bardoff pigs got what was coming to them.

That’s It?

Danika and the rest were being interrogated in the Bardoff City Police Headquarters. She didn’t mind, of course. She was one of the victims in all this, after all.

All that worried her were Eustace and Evan since they’d participated in the gunfight earlier.

Who knows what instrument of the law might be held against their necks? Stephanie was in another interrogation room, and sitting across from her was Leonard himself.

“So, you don’t know anything that went on?”

“Mhm.”

It’s not like Stephanie was lying. She really was clueless.

Leonard nodded.

“Alright.You can go now.”

“Huh? That’s it?”

Things had been so tense when she came. She’d imagined the situation to be more complicated than it was right now.

Leonard stood up, ready to escort her out.

“Come on then.” Stephanie followed behind him, still confused.

“What’ll happen to the others?”

“You mean Danika specifically, don’t you?”

“Yeah.She’s innocent, by the way.”

Leonard stopped, then turned back to look at Stephanie.

“You really don’t remember me?”

Stephanie cocked her head curiously.

Did they know each other? “We sat together in freshman year. You always pointed out my weight, remember?”

Stephanie gaped like a fish.

“You..how is this possible?”

“What? I told yo.I could lose weight.” Leonard grinned.

He’d recognized Stephanie from the get-go.She was just as sweet and cute as she used to be.Stephanie beamed.” really couldn’t tell it was you. Wow, you lost a whole lot of weight!”

“Yeah.Come, you can wait for your friend outside. She’ll be alright. “

Leonard gestures at some benches outside the station, then eyed his watch. It shouldn’t take long now.

Stephanie didn’t sit.

“Will she be in there for long? I can stay here te wait for her if so.” Leonard sighed.

“Alright then.”

Stephanie began rocking on her heels in anticipation while Leonard went back inside. She didn’t blame Danika fo: coming over.

In fact, she fell: guilty for having involved her in something so dangerous again.

“You knew him?” Paul asked, coming over to her side.

He’d been waiting by the door since Stephanie and everyone else was lugged back te the station.

Danika’s task for him was to alert the police at the right: moment, asking specifically for the new Deputy Commissioner instead of anyone else there who’d already been bribed by the families.

Paul didr”t know who this Leonard guy was, but he trusted Danika’s plans.

They always worked, after all.

Stephanie’s smile faded when she saw Paul, who, in retu:n, grumbled internally about her reaction.
