Zeke could only resort to this now that things were beginning to spiral out of hand.

Danika said, “Why does it matter who inherits the family? Eustace is as much a Quincey as your own line of children. The family will surely invite great success and wealth if he becomes the new heir.Isn’t that what you desire?”

“It is.But sadly, I cannot pass the family to an outsider.”

No matter what, Eustace would only always be an outsider to Zeke.

He also had a feeling that his own line of children would permanently lose the claim to the family once Eustace took over.

That couldn’t happen under his watch. He had fought hard to claim the title of the family head all those years ago, so he couldn’t let it go so easily.

Knowing there was no way she could dissuade him, Danika continued, “Are you 100% certain that your family will perpetuate if Eustace dies?”

“No.”

Zeke shook his head, sighing.

“But if I don’t do this, the family will no longer be headed by my line.”

“I see.I have nothing else to say, then.”

Danika shrugged, reclining in her seat as if she weren’t the least bit worried.

It intrigued Zeke.

“Aren’t you worried about Eustace? Or should I say, do you really have that much confidence that he’ll succeed?”

Eye for An Eye

“I think you may have overestimated how important I am to him. He’s not an idiot. You really think he’d cave just because you have me in hand?”

It’s not like Zeke would even guarantee her safety if Eustace died.

That was how she was even more certain that Eustace wouldn’t give up so easily.

Yet Danika wouldn’t lie and say she wasn’t worried.

Zeke disagreed, however.

“On the contrary, I think you’re quite important to him.He might even risk it all for you.”

“Wishful thinking, sir.”

Danika laughed gently, though she wasn’t in the mood to laugh.

“We shall see then.”

Danika chewed on her cheek, guessing Eustace was probably on his way over right this second. She just wasn’t sure if he’d done enough preparations for the conflict.

No way would he come empty-handed, right? In truth, Danika pretty much guessed it right.

Eustace wasn’t there to meet his death, but he wasn’t going to risk Danika’s life either.

Hence, he’d already prepared to save Danika, even at the cost of his life.

Zeke closed his eyes slightly as if resting.

So, Danika turned to scan her surroundings, watching for any openings she could use later.

Acommotion soon came at the door as if someone had come.

Danika looked at it, knowing it was most likely Eustace outside.

Zeke opened his eyes, too, nodding at Danika.

“Let’s go take a look, shall we?”

Danika silently followed behind the old man, suddenly thinking she might be able to overpower him right that second.

Yet she instantly noticed several red dots flare on her chest before disappearing.

Her sudden thought disappeared just as fast.

She wouldn’t be able to accomplish her plan fast enough to prevent several finger-sized bullets from riddling her body.

Outside the door, Eustace was scanning his surroundings.

“Where’s Danika?” he asked, irritated that Danika was nowhere to be found.

“Don’t you worry, Mr.Eustace.Miss Zellweger will be here right away,”

The butler said, all smiles as if Eustace wasn’t there to be sent to his death.

Eustace scoffed, ignoring him.

Zeke soon turned up with Danika beside him.

Eustace was about to walk up to her when the nozzle of a gun was pressed up to Danika’s temple.

“I’d advise against coming over, Eustace,” Zeke warned, though he still appeared as kind as when Eustace first met him.

Yet it couldn’t be more apparent now that it was just an act the old man put up.

In truth, he was far crueler than anyone in the family.

“I don’t understand what’s happening, sir,” Eustace said as if he really was clueless.

Zeke ignored him, saying instead, You know, if you hadn’t hurt Xavier, I wouldn’t have even considered going to this extent.”

Sure, he had never imagined letting Eustace take over, but neither had he longed for the boy’s death.

But when things got out of control, especially with his son’s death at Eustace’s hand, he really couldn’t just sit by and watch on anymore.

That was why Eustace needed to pay with his life today.

You Win, Let Her Go

“What do you mean, sir? The Watkins were the ones responsible for your son’s death.I’m sure both evidence and the law will agree, ” Eustace said, still polite.

No way would he admit to having killed Xavier now.

“Whether it was you or the Watkins, I’m sure we all know the truth of the matter. So, it’s pointless to try and argue the specifics.”

“Do you mean to avenge your son today, then, sir?” Eustace asked.

Zeke frowned, noticing how fearless Eustace seemed.

It was almost as if he didn’t care that he was going to die.But that was impossible, right? There was no one alive who wouldn’t be scared of dying.

Still, Zeke had his butler toss a handgun to Eustace, just in case.

“Here you go.”

Eustace snorted, picking the gun up and fiddling with it.

“You really think I’d die for Danika Zellweger?”

The safety on the gun pressed against Danika’s temple was swiftly turned off.

Eustace’s expression fell along with the ensuing sound.

God, he was so scared right now.

Even if the Quinceys wouldn’t be able to handle revenge from the Zellwegers, it didn’t mean Eustace was ready to risk Danika dying.

With a helpless chuckle, Eustace raised the gun, turning off the safety.

“Alright.You win.Let her go.”

“You don’t have the right to negotiate with me right now, Eustace Quincey,”

Zeke shot out coldly.

Eustace met his expression with an equally cold glare.

“Really. How do I know you won’t hurt her once I kill myself, then?”

“You don’t need my guarantee.I have no qualms with the Zellwegers nor with Danika herself.Unless you force my hand, of course.”

No use pissing off the Zellwegers if Eustace died on the spot.

But if he refused to, well.

Yet Eustace had never liked being at the whims of someone else.

He checked the gun barrel, then swiftly pointed the nozzle at Zeke’s forehead.

Aswarm of bodyguards immediately ran out, pointing their guns at Eustace.
