Chapter 378 – The Regretful Billionaire: An Unpredicted Reunion

Eustace had seen the map. He knew that Luke was riding in the direction of the cliff. So, they were going to murder him there.

Not long after, Luke stopped a distance away from the cliff, glaring at him. Eustace slowed down as well and rode over. He smiled coldly. ‘Why aren’t you moving forward?”

“I’m not going to accompany you anymore. You can go by yourself.” Luke sneered.

This beat up trail was better suited for Eustace alone.

Just as Eustace guessed his next move, Luke raised an arm and signaled with his hand.

At once, something hit Eustace’s horse, and it reared wildly.

Eustace turned back. A needle poked out of the horse’s back. There was no telling what the horse was injected with.

The horse ran forward in panic. It was going to run off the cliff.

Luke was grinning widely. ‘You could have done anything you wanted, Eustace, but you just had to fight the Quinceys. You pretty much lost your life the moment you did that.”

He thought that Eustace would be panicking right now. At the very least, Eustace would be cursing. However, he did not.

Instead, a smile appeared on Eustace’s lips. Luke rubbed his eyes, wondering if his eyes were playing tricks on him.

The next second, right as the horse was about to go down the cliff, Eustace jumped off the horse and landed squarely on the ground. He only had a few inches to spare.

The smile on Luke’s face froze. “You…”

“Is this all you’ve prepared? I thought you were more capable than this.”

Didn’t they know that he was pretty good at parkour?

A normal person would not have been able to recover, but Eustace was well- trained. If he couldn’t get the horse to control itself, he could at least jump down from it.

Eustace couldn’t help wondering if it was Luke or Xavier who came up with this plan.

Stall Him

Luke felt embarrassed. It was indeed his plan. Although he had run it past his father, he had not offered any suggestions for improvement. It led to Luke thinking that his plan was perfect.

But now, it seemed that his plan was far from perfect. He hadn’t even investigated Eustace’s abilities.

“Don’t you dare get too excited!” Luke gnashed his teeth and waved his hand. The people hidden in their surroundings rushed forward.

He had other things prepared. So what if Eustace was good at combat? He couldn’t possibly win against everyone here.

Eustace was a little more impressed now that he saw Luke’s other preparations. He wasn’t as stupid as he thought.

Although he looked relaxed on the outside, Eustace knew he would have to put a lot of effort into knocking all those people out. What was more, he feared that he would lose much of his energy after he was done.

As the thought played in his mind, he was already battling with Luke’s henchmen. He was the only one fighting for himself against a group of people, yet they began dropping like flies.

Luke couldn’t help taking a few steps back. Was Eustace really this good?

He felt troubled. If he had known it earlier, he would have called in more people. But it was too late now. Eustace would be long gone by the time they got there. Luke began to grow anxious. If he failed now, Xavier would be furious. He’d think that he was a failure.

When Luke thought of the other illegitimate children eyeing his position as the heir, he panicked. He no longer cared if backup would arrive in time. He called them, then said to the ones fighting Eustace, “Trap him! Stall him!”

They were no match for Eustace. Anyone who tried to attack him would be taken out at once. There was no point in fighting. They would rather save themselves and wait for backup.

Eustace knew what Luke was thinking. Naturally, he would not let him win. These people dared not fight him, so he charged toward them, forcing them to fight him.

In the blink of an eye, the group of Luke’s men was taken out. Eustace was exhausted. He could take them all on, but he had to make sure he was not hurt in the process.

But right now, even if he were hurt, he would not show it.

He walked toward Luke with a smile on his face. “Is that it? Just how much do you underestimate me, Luke?”

“What…what are you doing?” Having seen Eustace’s wrath, Luke stepped back in fear.

Could Eustace be taking this chance to beat him up, too?

Eustace smiled coldly, reaching out toward him.

Suddenly, there was a bang. A bullet shot towards Eustace’s outstretched hand.

Eustace reacted quickly. He ducked behind a large boulder, his eyes clouded.” You’re a brave one, Luke, getting out the guns.”

Even the Quinceys had to be diligent about guns in Bardoff City. They were a family with a rich heritage, after all. But once the line was crossed, there would be disastrous consequences.

That was why Eustace had chosen to partner up with Evan. Evan was from abroad, and even if he were to use firearms, he would be hard to track. It would be practically impossible for them to trace it to Eustace.

Luke looked at Eustace behind the boulder, wanting to say that this was not part of his plan. However, he ended up saying nothing.

He was no fool. If this wasn’t part of his plan, it was his father’s plan. No wonder his father hadn’t said anything before. He had already made his own plans.

You Think My Death is Definite?

Luke was a little upset about it. If Xavier had planned it without telling him, he didn’t trust him.

His grumbles ran deep, but he was smart enough to brush them off for now. Right now, what he needed to do was make Eustace disappear.

Everything else would follow.

The gunshots were still being fired. Xavier had planned this well. There were several men hidden in the mountain. Eustace was beginning to tire out.

He had been careless. He hadn’t thought that the Quinceys would be so incredibly ruthless. Weren’t they afraid of being caught? On top of that, Zeke was still the head of the Quinceys. Weren’t they afraid he would find out about them using guns?

While Eustace’s mind drifted off, one of the bullets hit his thigh. However, he did not stop running. He had to leave quickly and escape their circle.

His arm and thigh hurt really bad, but the pain made him even more alert.

The head of the Quinceys was indeed Zeke. Without his permission, Luke and Xavier would not have used guns.

Everything was so clear now.

Eustace smirked. Couldn’t they hold it in any longer?

Very quickly, he was forced to the edge of the cliff. He realized that the snipers did not mean to kill him by gunshot. They merely wanted to force him to the edge. Did they want him to jump?

Cowards!

They wanted him to die, but they were afraid of being caught and affecting the family name. That was why they wanted him to jump. After that, they would say that he had lost his footing and fallen down. It would have nothing to do with them.

As for the bullet wounds, no one would even notice.

Eustace stood at the cliff, the gunshots stopping. He knew that someone was staring at him. They would fire if he did not jump.

He smiled coldly. He was not afraid at all. He looked back. He sort of understood why the Quinceys insisted on the cliff. His previous accident involved one, and he’d be haunted by it. If he fell, it would simply be fulfilling his destiny.

“There’s no escaping, Eustace. Just jump. What if you’re lucky and you’re saved again?” Luke walked over. However, he did not go near him just in case.

“Do you think my death is definite?” Eustace looked at the cliff. He did not believe that the Quinceys would be so sure. Who could guarantee that he would die this time?

If Luke was so sure, something was waiting for him at the bottom. Luke smiled. “If you can survive this, it’s written in the stars, then. I promise not to bother you in the future.”

Survive?

This was not the cliff from before. There was no water below them. If Eustace fell, he would break every single bond in his body. Eustace knew this.

“You have no other choice, Eustace,” Luke said, laughing gleefully. Eustace looked at him and said, “I hope you’ll always be able to laugh as loudly as you Did.”

After saying that, he turned and jumped off the cliff, disappearing before Luke’s sight.

He’s Been Murdered

Luke watched him jump. For a moment, he couldn’t quite believe it. Was Eustace submitting so easily without a struggle?

He didn’t think there would be a river waiting for him to swim in, did he?

“Idiot!” Luke thought. Then, he said to someone, “Look around below. You must see his corpse with your own eyes.”

“Yes, sir!” His bodyguard nodded.

Just before Luke was about to call Xavier, his phone rang. It was his father’s secretary. He thought that he was calling to track his progress. Before the secretary could speak, he said, “Tell my father the plan worked. Eustace is dead.”

“Xavier… something’s happened to him.” The secretary was panicking on the other end, his voice trembling.

Luke’s eyebrows raised. An unsettling feeling washed over him. “What happened?” What could ever happen to his father?

“Xavier… he’s been murdered!” the secretary said, his voice full of terror.

Luke’s phone clattered to the ground. For a moment there, he forgot to ask how it happened.

News of the Quinceys spread through the city quickly. Eustace had fallen down a cliff, and Xavier was shot in his villa and was pronounced dead. Either story was a terrifying case, and they had both happened at the same time.

When Danika saw the news, she had just finished performing surgery. She grew weak in the knees.

Fallen down a cliff?

Danika did not believe this. After what had happened the last time, Eustace would turn away at the mere sight of a cliff. What was he doing there?
