Xavier, on the other hand, silently wondered why his boss had driven all the way here just to suffer all this.
Jeremy’s hands balled up, shaking slightly. He didn’t know why he couldn’t let go. He was the one who wanted their marriage to end, after all
“Ma’am, maybe we should go back home? It’s getting cold out here,” Alyssa offered kindly.
That single word, “home,” instantly formed a barrier that shut Jeremy out of their world.
“Allison is what they say true? Jeremy rasped out.
Alyssa took a deep breath. She decided to play along and hummed in acknowledgment.
“Al¨Calright,” Jeremy mumbled, looking like he was far away in thought.
Then, he took out a black velvet jewelry box, He handed it to Alyssa. “Here. I got this for you as a token of our wedding…”
Alasa was taken aback but didn’t reach out to take the box. She hadn’t expected Jeremy to have kept that by his side all this time.
Ace coulda’t possibly accept that from you. I’ll do it in her stead.” Before Alyssa could say anything, Colene had taken the box from
Jeremy.
toside was a gorgeous bracelet carved from the finest lavender moon quartz. It gleamed with a soft light, looking like a treasure from centuries before
Alyssa could instantly tell this was a one¨Cof¨Ca¨Ckind material, not usually for sale to the public. If Jeremy had given this to her years ago, she would have been so happy she wouldn’t have been able to sleep.
But her low was now buried beneath a cold, lonely desert. Unrequited love was a waste of time, along with the gifts it brought.
Hector, but even I can tell how expensive this must be. Look at this crystal. You’re very kind, Mr. Walsh Colene drawled.
She suddenly raised her hand. What followed was the sound of something breaking into pieces on the ground. Just like that, the quartz bracelet shattered at Alyssa’s and Jeremy’s feel.
Jeremy’s expression darkened almost immediately. His heart throbbed painfully as he witnessed his gift being humiliated. 1
Ab a turned away, avoiding his eyes.
“How could you, Madam? Mr. Walsh had this made just for Ms. Burton. You didn’t have to break it if you didn’t intend on keeping it!” Xavier cried, so upset that his neck had turned red.
“A. Walsh, if you had a gift for Allison, why didn’t you give it to her before the divorce? Do you have any idea what this looks like now that you’re giving this to her?
“Pure embarrassment. Or are you just upset to see her happy with someone else? When will you finally give up?” Colene shrieked.
She stomped her heels on the broken bracelet. “Allison has accepted your token. Now scram! Back to Solana City you go. You’re not welcome here!
Those words shot through Jeremy’s chest like arrows.
He gazed brokenly at Allison one last time, trying to say something though no words would come.
Alyssa ignored his gaze and went to Colene, holding onto the woman’s arm. “Let’s go back inside.”
“Madam? You” Xavier was stunned that Allison wasn’t helping his boss. The feeling then turned into pure disappointment.
Meanwhile, Jeremy felt like a doll with its strings cut.
“Let’s go. We don’t want strangers or busybodies ruining our evening.” Colene snorted and went back into the manor with Alyssa by her side.
Mandy shot a look at Jeremy and then shook her head. “What an embarrassment.”
When Alyssa returned to the house, she could finally let down her defenses. Exhaustion had consumed her entirely.
She felt terrible as she recalled the broken bracelet, followed by Jeremy’s desperate and pain¨Cfilled gaze.
Mandy and Colene had only been doing what they thought was best for her, but it was too much.
Alyssa started feeling like the bad guy here.
“Lyse! Just then, Silas ran up to her, panting. “Axel has gotten into a light with Dad. Dad even hit him!”
Axel was in the backyard, walking straight toward his Lamborghini without so much as looking back.
“Axel Alyssa cried, running up to him, “Where are you going?”
“As far away from this place as possible, obviously. Hopefully, I never have to come back.” When Axel turned to look at her, she could see that his cheek had turned alarmingly red where their father had hit him.
“You always said you cared the most about our brothers and me. So if this is our home, then it’s your home too. How could you just never come back again?” Alyssa asked, holding onto her brother’s hand. Her heart hurt so deeply.
Axel gazed at his beloved sister, then gently cupped her cheek. “Of course, I love you guys. I’ll love you guys wherever I go. But this isn’t home anymore. I’ve fulfilled my promise to you, Lyse. You wouldn’t still be upset with me because of it, right?”
Alyssa nodded slowly, suddenly feeling like crying.
“If you want to show respect and love for Winston, then I suggest you never make me appear before him ever again. I have to go now. Duty Calls. I’ll come to visit you soon.”
“Axel” Mandy appeared from behind them with a bag in hand.
Axel was surprised to see her. He greeted softly. “Mandy.”
The woman’s eyes were rimmed with redness. She took a deep breath before handing the man the bag of items.
“There’s
I’ve included several new poultices and medicines we developed recently to treat both internal and external injuries. I hope they can be of use to you.
“There are also some baked goods and snacks that Lyla has prepared. She’s worried your trip might take long, so she has made these to help lide your meals over.”
Mandy then looked down at her feet, a gentle smile on her face. “We hope these will be of use to you, Axel.”
Axel blinked, then replied in a kind tone. “Thank you. I’m pretty stocked up, really. But I appreciate the gesture. I’ll be off now.”
With that, Axel hugged Alyssa for a couple more seconds before he left.
Minutes later, his Lamborghini disappeared beyond the neighborhood.
Alyssa and Mandy were left standing in the courtyard. Both women heaved a sigh.
“Let him be, Mandy,” Alyssa consoled the older woman. “Axel’s improved a lot. He’s still a wild child. We have to give him more time before he can find his footing here.”
“I know he feels sorry for me,” said Mandy, dipping her head sadly. “He doesn’t need to, really. I’ve moved on from it. I’m okay now.”
Alyssa’s throat tightened, not knowing what to say.
Two years ago, tragedy struck the Taylor family.
Mandy’s eldest son and Alyssa’s half¨Cbrother, Damien Taylor, Captain of Solana Airways, had sacrificed himself to save the crew and passengers aboard his flight.
A hardware malfunction had occurred. He decided to crash the plane into the ocean. Many lives were saved that day, but not Damien’s. His passing occurred on what should have been his 27th birthday. 1
One could persist in their grudges against Mandy and Winston when it came to their complex relations, but the fact that Mandy had raised such a brave and noble son remained undisputed until today.
The Maybach was on its way back to Solana City. Xavier remained a steady hand on the wheel, peeking now and then at the rearview mirror to gauge Jeremy’s expression.
Jeremy’s lace was solemn, his cheeks and lips pale, as if he were sick.

both anger and something sadder. He had rushed to Belbank to gel Allison to come back with him, feeling so sure
Bat what happened instead?
His carefully maintained pride had shattered into a million pieces and been sent flying in the wind.
Xavier was just as upset after seeing his boss being humiliated. “If you want Madam to return with you, you could tell the Taytor family that your divorce hasn’t been legalized yet, and she’s still your lawfully wedded wife.
ad those two women just now. Who do they think they are? Neither of them was Madam’s mother by blood, that’s for sure.”
