But Cornell suddenly stopped her.

“Enough!”

Cornell snapped, “You don’t need to explain anything to her. Just go back to your ward.”

Then Cornell rushed to the door and strode out without even looking at Cecilia.

Cecilia was left alone in the ward. Watching him walk away, she was so angry that she clenched her fists tightly until her knuckles turned white.

She stood there for a while. Then, a sinister smile appeared on her face. She already had a scheme against Audrey.

At this moment, the sky outside was covered with dark clouds. A tremendous flash of lightning pierced through the sky.

It was followed by a loud crash of thunder. Then heavy rain started to fall.

The taxi Audrey booked finally arrived.

She was about to get in the car when she heard someone calling her from behind.

“Audrey! Audrey, stop!”

The voice sounded very familiar. It was Cornell’s.

For some reason, Audrey stopped.

She couldn’t help wondering why he came after her. Did he come to settle a score with her because she broke their agreement and came to see him without permission?

What else could be the reason?

Whatever Cornell’s reason was, Audrey didn’t want to face him right now.

She was already hurt too much. She couldn’t take any more pain.

At the thought of this, Audrey opened the door without hesitation and got in the car. Then she said to the driver, “Please drive faster.”

“Audrey, wait”

At this moment, Cornell had already rushed to the road and almost grabbed the door handle.

But the blue taxi sped away.

The torrential rain soaked Cornell’s entire body. The gauze on the back of his head was all wet. Blood gushed out of his wound, mixed with the rain, and flowed down his body. The scene was particularly tragic.

Luis rushed over with an umbrella. He was so worried about Cornell that he couldn’t help scolding him.

“Cornell, what do you think you’re doing? How can you run in the rain? Do you want to die now?”

It was the first time he had seen someone who didn’t take his body seriously.

Luis pulled Cornell back to the hospital, but Cornell only pushed him away. Then Cornell stopped an approaching taxi, opened the door, and said to the driver, “I’ll buy this car.”

“Are you crazy?” the driver snapped.

The driver quickly closed the door, but he failed because Cornell had already gripped the handle.

Then Cornell said coldly, “How much is this car? I’ll triple the price.”

The next moment, the driver stood in the rain in a daze, watching Cornell drive his car away.

“Who’ll pay me money?” the driver yelled.

Just then, Matteo stepped in to defuse the situation and told the driver, “Sir, please come with me.”

Sitting in the back seat, Audrey felt she was in a daze.

The crack of thunder overhead made her shivered.

She thought she had come to terms with Cornell and Cecilia being in a relationship. However, seeing them in bed together had devastated her to the point of near madness.

How pathetic she was! She had even tried to trick herself into thinking it was okay. How ironic it was that her life was like this.

Audrey had promised herself that she would stop caring about Cornell, but it was easier said than done.

It was so painful for her. She had tried her best to get a grip but in vain.

And then, out of nowhere, a jarring noise was heard.

The car slammed to a stop. Had she not been buckled in, Audrey would have catapulted out of her seat.

After the car screeched to a halt, the driver yelled at the vehicle in front, “Are you out of your mind? How could you drive like that?”

In the downpour, a tall and imposing man walked toward Audrey.

He swung open the back door and locked eyes with Audrey without blinking. The next moment, his gaze turned icy.

“Get out of the car,” he ordered in a commanding voice.

Audrey was taken aback. She didn’t expect that Cornell would actually chase after her.

He stood there, soaked to the bone, with rain trickling off his long lashes. Even under these conditions, he still looked attractive.

Seeing that Audrey remained silent, Cornell grabbed her hand directly.

Audrey was stunned for a split second and then shook off his grip.

“Mr. Clement, you should go back.”

Undeterred, Cornell did not let her go and instead looked deep into her eyes.

“Then why did you come to the hospital to see me?”

Audrey’s eyes clouded over. She stubbornly averted her gaze and shot back, “I wasn’t there to see you.”

Cornell didn’t seem to believe that and cut to the chase.

“Well, why did you run away? Are you jealous? You still have feelings for me, don’t you?”

Audrey pursed her lips. She reminded herself not to expect love from Cornell, or she would only end up disappointed.

“Don’t get me wrong, Mr. Clement. What do you expect me to do after seeing such a scene? Stick around for the encore?”

The rain intensified, and the driver’s patience was starting to wear thin.

“Are you two done? I’ve got to make a living, you know?”

Cornell whipped out his purse and threw a large amount of money to the driver. He then shot a frosty glance at the driver and asked, “Is that enough?”

The driver was floored. The amount he just received was more than enough to cover the fee. It was equivalent to his monthly income.

The driver mustered a smile and said, “The rain’s coming down in buckets. Sir, why don’t you get in the car while you talk to her?

Take your time.”

“You!” Audrey uttered in disbelief. She was speechless for what Cornell had just done. She frowned as she realized she could not compete with Cornell when it came to the money. Forget it.

“Excuse me, you’re blocking my way,” Audrey sternly said to Cornell.

“I’m not going to move,” he replied flatly.

“Mr. Clement, don’t waste your precious time on me. Go back to Miss Murray.”

As Audrey said this, her eyes were emotionless, as if the man before her was a stranger.

For some reason, this ignited a spark of anger in Cornell, and he questioned, “You really want me to go back to her?”

“Yes.” Audrey firmly nodded.

“Fine!” Cornell, without missing a beat, slammed the door shut and walked away.

As Audrey watched his retreating figure, her heart ached. It felt as though she had contracted some sort of a rare disease that got worse every time she had a fight with Cornell.

Audrey wanted to say more. But instead, she simply turned her face away and motioned for the driver to get moving.

Just as the engine roared to life, the back door was flung open.

Cornell returned, pinned her to the seat, and began to kiss her passionately.

For a moment, Audrey’s mind went blank. She instinctively tried to dodge, but Cornell’s grip on her chin was unyielding, giving her no chance to escape.

Audrey was almost suffocated by the kiss and wanted to run away, but Cornell’s hand was like an iron clamp, which rendered her powerless.
