“Can we start a petition on this? I, too, support Jameson Schmidt to take power. He’s handsome and upright, nearly as good as Jeremy Walsh from Solana City!”

“How could they even think of carrying out forced demolitions on a foreign land? Don’t they give a damn about the lives of the citizens of that country? Even the Harpers, who had criminal origins, did not carry out such heinous acts like the Schmidts!”

Victor nearly blacked out. He quivered in fear from head to toe.

Victor felt as though he was punched in the guts. “You loser… Josh Schmidt, you’re a fucking loser!”

Josh grew anxious when he noticed the majority of public opinion in favor of Jameson. He nearly broke his phone out of anger. “Jameson Schmidt, is this your doing? You must have leaked the news!”

“Josh, how can you be so clueless?” Jameson shook his head. “What do I gain from leaking the news? What good will it do for the company? I do not want a pyrrhic victory. Besides, I don’t even have to mess with you. You’re totally capable of doing that to yourself.”

Josh, utterly provoked, bellowed, “Jameson Schmidt, you petty, evil prick!”

A smirk played on Jameson’s lips as he maintained his gentlemanly image. When Victor wasn’t looking, Jameson showed a glimpse of his provocating and evil nature.

Victor rubbed his forehead. He had a complicated look in his eyes. “Who. Who had the audacity to.”

“3 o’clock News is a media under the KS Group. KS Group and other foreign investors funded this media outlet. We can’t exert control over them, which is why they fearlessly pressured you and exposed the scandal,” explained Jameson.

After Jameson was free of suspicion, Victor widened his eyes in fury. “Winston Taylor, I saved your life before. We’re friends of 30 years. How could you destroy me over a forced demolition? You’ve crossed a line!”

Jameson whispered, “Dad, from what I know, Mr. Winston has been unwell and even fell into a coma for days. I don’t think he has the time to get involved in the scandal.

“I guess Jonah has something to do with this. He’s the one who transferred that parcel of land to Josh. Perhaps he has laid out the trap from the very beginning.” Although Jameson knew that Alyssa was behind the news leak, he clung to his delusion of marrying her one day, which was why he wanted her to leave a good impression on Victor.

“Jonah Taylor!” Head dizzy from the rage, Victor punched the coffee table. “Just wait and see, all of you Taylors! I’m not going to let this slide!”

“Dad, calm down. We need to settle the immediate problem.”

“Jimmy, how should we settle this issue?” Victor was visibly disappointed with Josh and refused to look at him. Instead, he took Jameson’s hand and addressed him.

“I think. You should give Josh a chance.” Jameson surprisingly spoke up for Josh. “After all, he’s the president of Schmidt Group. If he steps forward to settle the crisis, he will reestablish his reputation in the company. So, you should trust him one more time.”

The Millennium was fun-filled at night, as usual. Seated on a maroon velvet couch, Jameson tasted a red wine while watching a few top politicians in Solana City indulge themselves in debauchery.

He squinted in satisfaction.

“Mr. Schmidt, these politicians will be of great help to you after you become the president of the Schmidt Group.” Amber massaged Jameson’s shoulders while Carl happily groveled at his employer.

Jameson guffawed. “Of course I’ll need to see some returns after all that I have invested in them.”

“Please forgive me for my shortsightness. I’m confused as to why you spoke up for Josh Schmidt at this critical moment.”

Carl sounded perplexed by Jameson’s decision. He questioned, “You can totally get Josh out of the way and claim the president title if you settle the scandal in Tsulu.”

Jameson shook his head. “Victor Schmidt is a skeptical man. If I show my hand, I will only raise his suspicion about my intentions. However, he will think of me as rational, sensible, and diplomatic if I leave the matter to Josh.”

Carl inquired, “What if Josh successfully squashed the scandal?”

“Do you think I’ll let that happen?” Jameson folded his legs and swirled the red wine in his glass. He exuded a dangerous air. “Since the Taylors have brought this scandal to the next level, I shall fuel the fire and make it spiral out of control.

“Get in touch with our men in Tsulu right now. Tell them to visit the hospital where the injured villagers stay. You know what to do next, don’t you?”

Carl got the hint. He nodded hard. “Yes. Got it.”

Amber’s hands quivered. She knew that a vicious round of killings was about to start. She felt suffocated at the thought of the innocent civilian lives about to be lost in the power struggle between capitalists. The notion made her feel sick in the stomach.

“I will need Josh to be irrevocably defeated if I were to take his place, or Victor will not give up on him. Got it?”

Carl had a look of admiration in his eyes. “Mr. Schmidt, you’re so close to success.”

“Yes, I’m one step away from it.” Without warning, Jameson grabbed Amber’s hand and pulled her into his arms. He looked tipsy as he stared at her shocked face.

As the red wine spilled from his glass, he ran his fingers through her face, sending a chill down her spine. She felt like he was running a blade dangerously across her skin.

He mumbled, “Lyse, do you know how much effort it took for me to reach here?”

“Mr. Schmidt, you’re drunk.” Amber hurriedly looked away.

He slid a warm and sweaty hand under her dress, easily undoing her bra under her thin dress with his other free hand. “Whatever I did was all for you… I tried my best to become a man worthy of you… Lyse, take a look at me. Please.”

“Mr. Schmidt, wake up! I’m not Alyssa Taylor!” Tearing up, Amber mustered all her courage to free herself from his embrace. She hurriedly placed a hand on her chest to stop her bra from sliding off. She slowly backed off.

Carl, who was about to leave, looked shell-shocked. He feared for Amber. He couldn’t believe that Amber, who had been trained as Alyssa Taylor’s substitute, had the guts to defy Jameson, the man who called the shots at The Millennium.

The light in Jameson’s eyes dimmed. A hint of doubt surfaced, only to disappear soon.

Since he was in a great mood that night, he brushed off Amber’s action as playing hard to get or throwing a tantrum. He allowed such occurrences once in a while. He simply thought of it as introducing an element of excitement in their relationship.

Amber was meant to be a substitute that existed for his pleasure anyway. He’d never waste his time to learn about what was on her mind.

“Carl, Mr. Taylor has probably used up the prescription we delivered to him.” Leaning back, Jameson adjusted his tie. “It’s time to ask sir for refills.”

While the Schmidts were deep in trouble, Jeremy was busy with work. Winston’s condition had recently stabilized. After sorting out Winston’s matters, Jeremy began working to create a charity foundation in Anne’s name.

Anne had passed on for years, but Jeremy resolved to make the foundation great to show his love for his mother.

“Mr. Walsh, the charity dinner preparations are nearly complete. We’ll need your decisions on certain details, such as the venue selection and the guest list.” Xavier handed him some documents.

Jeremy carefully pored over the documents. He calmly asked, “Any updates on Javier Walsh lately?”

“Nothing suspicious, except for one issue.” Xavier leaned forward. He lowered his voice into a whisper. “I looked into Mr. Javier’s schedule abroad.

“He was scheduled to attend a business meeting in Furancia for a week. He should have come home to Solana City after that, but he took a detour to Mosgravia.”

Jeremy lifted his gaze. “Mosgravia?”

“Let’s not forget who’s residing in Mosgravia.” A hint of worry crept up Xavier’s face. “Knowing Mr. Javier, he’s a selfish man. He wouldn’t take a detour for nothing. The only plausible explanation is that he met with Mr. Justin.”

“Javier has rarely visited Justin in Mosgravia over the years. It’s fine to drop by once in a while to visit him.” Jeremy redirected his attention to the document in his hold. He seemed uninterested in the update.

“Why did he specifically choose to visit Mr. Justin right after you and Madam won the legal case against Sophia Kirkman and after Mr. Newton transferred his authority to you? This is a massive red flag!”

Xavier exclaimed.

Appearing more worried than Jeremy, Xavier argued, “Mr. Javier must be worried that you’ll garner power. He’s afraid that he’ll lose control over you, so he wants to side with Mr. Justin and work with him against you!”

“So? Shall I purchase a missile and shoot Javier’s private jet out of the sky?”

Xavier mused, “Well, that’s not totally out of the question…”

Jeremy shot daggers at Xavier. The latter immediately grew nervous and fearful.

Jeremy began, “Xavier, did you really think I haven’t thought over it?”

Jeremy shut the file and let out a frustrated sigh. “I have no complaints, even if Javier prefers to support Justin when Justin’s fully recovered. After all, I owe Justin. Besides, he’s the eldest son in the family. He should have been part of the top leadership if his health had allowed it.

“That doesn’t mean I’ll hand my power to him unconditionally. I will engage in a fair fight.”

They were interrupted by a knock on the door. Jeremy said, “Come in.”

An assistant entered the office with two white lunch boxes in his hands. He announced, “Mr. Walsh, Madam’s assistant delivered lunch for you. Madam reminded you to take your meals on time, or else ¡ª”

Jeremy eagerly shot up from his seat. His eyes twinkled. “Or else?”

“Or else, she won’t let you into the house tonight. There won’t be any supper either.” After saying that, the assistant blushed deeply. Married for a few years, the assistant completely grasped the suggestive undertone of Alyssa’s reminder.

“Got it.” Jeremy stared at the lunchboxes. Gulping, he squinted and tugged at his tie.

Standing at the side, Xavier observed the tender look in Jeremy’s eyes. Xavier couldn’t help but think that Jeremy was staring at the lunchboxes as if they were Alyssa herself.

The assistant left after laying out the lunch on the table. Jeremy hurriedly sat on the couch and stuffed his mouth with his favorite dishes.

“Wow, that’s really good. How can they be so delicious?” While eating, he gasped and complimented Alyssa’s cooking.

Xavier gaped at Jeremy, who threw his manners out of the window and gobbled up the food like a farm animal. For a moment, Jeremy looked just like Landon.
