“Why did you bother telling Danika about Quinn?” Faye asked as he got in the car.
“We’re leaving soon and won’t be able to do anything much.But if Eustace and Danika think their happy- ever-after awaits them, they’re sorely mistaken,” Anthony sneered.
Quinn did come to find him, but she never asked about Eustace.He said that on purpose.He knew he wouldn’t have a chance to get his revenge on them, but that didn’t mean he would allow them to live well and peacefully.
“Why bother? We’re leaving already.”
Faye felt helpless.She didn’t think it was necessary, and if Eustace found out, it might cause more trouble.
Anthony waved his hand dismissively.
“Enough, let’s go.It’s almost time to board.”
“Okay.”
Faye nodded and told the driver to start the car.
As they left, she glanced back at Danika, still sitting in the cafe, feeling a mixture of emotions.
After all that she’d been through, she didn’t hate Danika as much anymore.
With Quinn entering the picture, she wondered what Danika and Eustace would have to go through before they could truly be together.
But then, none of it had anything to do with her now, and they were unlikely to ever meet again in their respective lifetimes.
“Goodbye, Danika.Goodbye, Eustace,”
Faye bid goodbye to them in her heart.
At night, Eustace came to pick up Danika from work as usual, but he could tell she wasn’t in a good mood right away.
“What’s wrong?” Eustace asked, feeling a bit worried.
Danika shook her head and quickly composed herself.
“It’s nothing, just a minor problem.”
“Is it related to work?” Eustace asked again.
“Yeah,” Danika replied evasively.
Seeing this, Eustace didn’t continue to ask her about it.He couldn’t intervene in the hospital’s matter, and Danika let him intervene anyway, so he could only give up.
“What do you want to eat tonight?” he asked, changing the topic, hoping to ease her mood.
Danika glanced at him but ultimately didn’t ask any more questions.She would appear unreasonable if she kept probing him.
Had Quinn contacted Eustace? Since she’d contacted Anthony, why would she refrain from contacting Eustace? Danika felt it was unlikely.
“Danika?”
Eustace frowned, feeling that Danika’s gaze looked a little odd.
“What’s wrong? Did something happen?”
“It’s nothing.I just think you’re too handsome and got distracted.”
Danika laughed, reassuring herself not to overthink things and to trust Eustace.
Eustace also laughed at her words.
“You always flatter me.”
Don’t Worry Too Much
Eustace drove slowly, and the car soon arrived at his house.He and Danika had been living together for some time now, and their life was not much different from that of a married couple.
As usual, Eustace went straight to the kitchen to start cooking when they got home, while Danika played with her phone in the living room.
Life was quite laid back these days.
She’d thought about helping Eustace in the kitchen, but he would kick her out every time, saying she was a troublemaker.
After several attempts, Danika wisened up and didn’t even attempt to enter the kitchen; she just sat and waited for the food.
While she was reading the news, Stephanie called, her voice full of tears.
It made Danika, who was lying on the couch, sit up instantly.
“What happened?”
“I haven’t been able to contact Leonard these past two days.When I asked the people at the police station, they dismissed me.I’m worried that something might have happened to him.”
She had no choice but to turn to Danika for help.
Danika immediately took it seriously.
“Don’t worry, I’ll ask around for you.Maybe Leonard is on a secret mission and can’t let you know about it.”
“Okay, please help me ask around.I don’t need to know what he’s doing; I just want to make sure he’s safe,” Stephanie said, sobbing.
Although they hadn’t known each other for very long, Stephanie could feel Leonard’s sincerity toward her.She earnestly hoped she could end up with Leonard and settle down with him.
Because of that, she gave her all to their relationship.
After ending the call with Stephanie, Danika contacted her acquaintances to inquire about Leonard’s situation.
At first, she didn’t take it seriously, but her expression faltered when the details of his mission came back.
Eustace happened to come out right then and asked, “What’s the matter?”
“I’m fine, but Leonard is in trouble,” Danika said.
“Just now, Stephanie called and said she couldn’t contact him.When I called, I found out that Leonard disappeared while on a mission.”
“Disappeared?” Eustace frowned.
This was not good news for him, too, as Leonard was the person he wanted to promote within the police force.
Danika nodded, feeling a little frustrated.
“A group of people suddenly took him away.But they were all masked, so it’s unclear who they were.Despite that, it was clear that they were after him.”
Eustace walked to Danika’s side and patted her shoulder gently to comfort her after hearing what she said.
“Don’t worry too much.I’ll have someone look into it.Nothing bad will happen to him.”
“I’m worried about Stephanie.”
She and Leonard weren’t very close, but she was worried because of Stephanie.
Stephanie finally decided to let go of everything and move forward.If something were to happen to Leonard at this time, Danika didn’t know how her friend would take it.
“It’s okay.Leonard isn’t your average guy.He should be fine,” Eustace said as he got up to make a phone call.
Danika calmed herself down and decided to tell Stephanie what she’d just learned.
Although she knew it would make her more worried, Danika knew more than anything she couldn’t lie to her best friend and betray her trust under any circumstance.
Stephanie was surprisingly calm after hearing what Danika had to say.She asked, “Did you say a group of people suddenly took him away? Did they target him on purpose?”
“For now, that seems to be the case,” Danika replied affirmatively.
After that, she added, “But don’t worry too much.Eustace and I have already sent people to look for him, and with the help of the police, we’ll definitely find him.”
“Okay, I understand.” Stephanie was quite certain who was behind it.

After the call ended, Danika couldn’t calm down. “Steph was too calm just now.”
Hearing her words, Eustace felt helpless. “Maybe it’s because she knows that Leonard will be alright.”
“No, something’s not right.” When Stephanie couldn’t contact Leonard, she was distraught. But now that she knew he was missing and his whereabouts were unknown, she was eerily calm-it was abnormal.
Eustace had returned to the kitchen to continue cooking. He said to Danika,” Don’t think too much about it for now. Let’s eat and then go to the police station.”
“Okay,” Danika agreed. She also felt that they should go and check out what was going on.
Meanwhile, Stephanie put away her phone and smiled bitterly. She left her home and quickly arrived at the gate of a villa. She walked up and knocked on the door.
The door was opened by a maid who looked confused. ‘Who are you looking for?”
“Is Paul here?” Stephanie spoke calmly, but the tone of her voice was very intimidating.
The maid frowned. “Do you have an appointment?”
Stephanie shook her head and said, “Just tell him that Stephanie is looking for him.”
