Anthony continued, “After this incident, I finally realized that people like Eustace have something that others don’t, besides his good family background and ability.”
“What is it?” Faye asked, puzzled.
“Luck!” Anthony exclaimed. “If he didn’t have such good luck, he would have died countless times over the years. I can’t beat him.”
Anthony had only come to this realization recently, so he thought of asking Faye for help when he saw her.
Do You Think You Still Have a Chance?
Faye felt that Anthony had understood it too late, unlike her, who had understood it many years ago. That was why she yearned to be with Eustace so much. But now, she understood that she had no chance to stand by him, for he was too powerful and beyond her league.
“So, what do you want to do now? How can I help you?” Faye asked.
“I want you to go find Eustace and ask him to let us off. I’ll never bother him again,” Anthony said. After these few days, he came to terms with reality and knew he couldn’t match up to Eustace.
“Do you think we still have a chance?” Faye asked, frowning.
“Yes, of course. You’ve been with him for so many years. He must have some feelings for you. As long as you speak up, he’ll definitely agree,” Anthony analyzed.
Unfortunately, Faye wasn’t so optimistic. “Anthony, you just made me see things as they were. But why can’t you see it now? If Eustace had any other feelings for me, I wouldn’t be here today,” Faye said with a bitter smile.
Anthony’s expression froze. Faye was right; Eustace didn’t like her at all. Even if she took the initiative to approach him, Eustace wouldn’t spare her a second glance.
He slumped weakly in his chair and looked at the pile of files before him.” So, we’re doomed? We can only wait for our demise to be upon us?”
Faye bit her lip. She knew what her brother was thinking. They had come a long way from being orphans with nothing; if they had to go back to square one, it was even more unbearable than death itself.
After a moment of silence, she decided to give it a try. “I’ll go find Eustace, but you have to be prepared. The Wardleys may have to pay a lot.”
“I know,” Anthony said. He wasn’t stupid. Even if Eustace agreed to let them go, the Wardleys wouldn’t be the same as before henceforth.
After talking to Anthony, Faye went straight to the hospital without wasting anytime.
It was already the third day since Eustace woke up in the hospital. He could barely get out of bed, but as for Danika, she had completely recovered, and everything was back to normal for her.
At noon, while the two of them were eating, Faye knocked on their hospital room door. Seeing that it was her, Eustace didn’t have much emotion and remained cold, but Danika was a little curious. She wondered, “Why is she here to find Eustace at a time like this? Doesn’t she know the situation the Wardleys are facing now?”
“Sorry, Eustace, I didn’t know you were having lunch. Did I disturb you?” Faye’s tone was gentle, and even her gaze toward Danika had changed. In the past, she was always full of hostility toward Danika, but now there was none of that at all. On the contrary, there was even a hint of unctuousness.
“Well, this is interesting,” Danika thought, amused at Faye’s attitude. It seemed that her purpose for coming today was different from what Danika had in mind.
Eustace looked at her and said calmly, “Since you know you’re disturbing us, why don’t you leave now?”
In the past, Eustace had some fondness for Faye. After all, she’d been like a sister to him for so many years, but that was no longer the case. Eustace felt that he was being merciful by not making a move against her personally. He’d only targeted her family so far.
“I’m sorry. I’ll leave now!” Faye had come to ask for a favor. At this point, she didn’t dare to offend them.
Seeing that she really wanted to leave, Danika stopped her. “Since you’re already here, leaving now won’t make much sense. You’ve already interrupted our meal anyway, so why not tell us why you came?”
As Danika said that, she’d already put down her spoon. Obviously, she was no longer in the mood to continue eating.
Okay, We Agree
Upon hearing this, Faye was uncertain and looked nervously at Eustace.
“If you want to say something, go ahead,* Eustace said, his words filled with affection for Danika, which made Faye’s heart ache inexplicably, but she quickly suppressed it.
She took a deep breath and spoke up, “I want you to spare the Wardleys.”
“Ha!” Eustace couldn’t hold back his laughter. “You want? Do you think I would care about what you want?”
“Eustace, I know you hate me and my brother. After all, if it weren’t for him, you wouldn’t be in hospital now,” Faye said, biting her lip. She looked at Eustace and continued, “But you should show mercy to him, considering all those years he spent with you. And…and you should also have mercy on me. I haven’t had a good life since I was little. You should know how the Lawrence family treated me. I’ve always thought that if I could become a wealthy young lady one day, I wouldn’t live such a miserable life. Eustace, I know you probably don’t want to spare the Wardleys just like that, but can you…l mean, can you leave some assets for the Wardleys so that my brother and I won’t have to live like we used to?” Faye pleaded.
She didn’t expect to keep all of the Wardleys’ assets, but she still hoped to keep a little. Even if the Wardleys were removed from the Top Ten Elites of Bardoff City from now on, she wouldn’t mind.
Faye’s words were quite sincere, and they got through to Eustace. Although he hated being deceived, he was grateful to Anthony for being his bodyguard in the past. At that time, he was still young and faced many dangers.
Except for when Anthony faked his death, he had saved Eustace from many dangers before that. As for Faye, Eustace had really thought of her as a younger sister before and even felt sorry for her.
Eustace didn’t say anything, but Danika could guess what his decision would be.
She looked at Faye and made the decision for him. “We can agree to your request, but from now on, you and Anthony cannot appear in Bardoff City. Eustace and I will buy Anthony’s Wardley Inc shares at the original price. The money will be enough for you to live comfortably for the rest of your lives.”
Faye was stunned. She’d wanted to keep Wardley Inc to ensure they would have a steady stream of income. But obviously, Danika didn’t give them this opportunity.
“If I were you, I would agree as soon as possible. Otherwise, Anthony’s shares will eventually become worthless, and you wont get a penny. You’ll even be burdened with debts that could run up to more than a million,” Danika said, rolling her eyes at Faye. If it weren’t for Eustace being somewhat sympathetic toward them, she wouldn’t have let these siblings off so easily.
After hearing that, Faye didn’t dare to hesitate any longer. “Okay, we agree.”
It was good to have enough money to live comfortably for the rest of their lives.
“Well.J’ll be leaving now.” Faye knew that since they weren’t exactly fond of her, she wouldn’t stay and get in their way in case they changed their minds.
After Faye left, Eustace spoke up, “We’re letting them off the hook just like that?”
“It’s not exactly that. They won’t get much in the end, anyway. Losing the entire Wardley Inc should be a punishment that’s severe enough for them.”
The Wardley family was one of the Ten Elites of Bardoff City. They wouldn’t have ended up like this if Anthony hadn’t done anything foolish.
Quinn’s Back
Eustace looked at Danika with deep affection in his eyes and said, ‘Danika, thank you.”
He knew why Danika spared them.
“Didn’t you say we don’t need to be so formal and courteous to each other? You’re the one who’s being all polite and proper now.” Danika glared at him and finally understood how he’d felt about the way she talked to him before.
Eustace laughed heartily. “It’s my fault. I shouldn’t be so formal with my beloved girlfriend.”
The two chatted merrily while the news of Wardley Inc’s fall spread quickly.
In the end, Eustace acquired Wardley Inc; Anthony and Faye left Bardoff City with the money they got from selling their shares. However, before leaving Bardoff City, Anthony called Danika and asked to meet her.
When Danika received Anthony’s call, it’d already been a week since she and Eustace were discharged from the hospital. She originally thought that Anthony and Faye should have left Bardoff City by then, but she didn’t expect she would get a call from him.
Anthony requested to meet at a cafe opposite the hospital to prove he had no bad intentions and just wanted to meet her. Nevertheless, Danika didn’t believe him. After all, he had explicitly instructed her not to let Eustace know about their meetup. Wasn’t it obvious that there was something fishy going on?
She came to the cafe cautiously and saw Anthony sitting by the window as soon as she walked in. She walked over to him and sat opposite him.
“Speak up. What do you want from me?”
Seeing her, Anthony put down the cup in his hand. It had been a while since they last met, and Danika felt that Anthony seemed to be in better spirits now that Wardley Inc was gone. However, she didn’t care about that. She only cared about why he asked to see her.
“Don’t misunderstand, Miss Zellweger. I really don’t have any malicious intent today. I just want to offer you some information as a way to thank you for letting me off,” Anthony said.
Information? Danika frowned, and her intuition told her it wasn’t good news.
“Do you know this person, Miss Zellweger?” Anthony took out a photo from his bag and handed it to Danika.
Danika looked at it, and her face immediately stiffened. “Quinn?”
“It seems that you know about the situation between Eustace and Quinn,” Anthony stated, not surprised by it. Danika was no fool, so it didn’t come as a surprise that she knew about these things.
However, Danika shook her head. “I only know a little about them, not much. II
“It’s nothing, really. It’s just that Eustace liked Quinn before, but she didn’t accept him,” Anthony said.
Danika remained silent, and Anthony continued, “I followed Eustace around when I was in my teens. At that time, he’d just finished university, and that was when he met Quinn.”
Danika already knew this; Eustace had gone to study abroad, and that was where he met Quinn. But in the end, Eustace chose to return to Clusia, but Quinn didn’t.
“Eustace was destined to return to Clusia to take over the Quinceys, but Quinn didn’t want to come back. She felt she had no future with Eustace, so she rejected him,” Anthony went on.
Danika pursed her lips, not surprised by this. “So, what do you want to tell me?”
“Quinn has returned to Clusia, and she contacted me,” Anthony announced.
This time, it was Danika who was shocked. She thought dazedly, “Quinn’s back?”
She would be lying if she said she wasn’t the least bit worried. Danika knew she resembled Quinn. Though Eustace had clarified that he never thought of her as a replacement, Danika wasn’t convinced that his fondness for her was merely a coincidence. She didn’t care that Eustace might have developed feelings for her because she looked like Quinn. After all, even if they were similar in looks, they were two completely different people.
Distracted by Your Handsomeness
“Well, at that time, I accompanied Eustace to study abroad because we were not much different in age.Eustace didn’t treat me as a subordinate as well, so I got to know Quinn through him.I don’t know how she found out I returned to the Wardleys, but she contacted me and asked about Eustace’s situation,” Anthony said.
Danika’s heart sank.
Why was Quinn asking about Eustace’s situation? Did she hope to get back together with him? That wasn’t impossible, seeing as the current Eustace was no longer the foolish youth he was back in college.
“I only contacted her once, and she hasn’t contacted me since then.I don’t know where she is now, but I always get the feeling that she must have come back to look for Eustace, so I’m giving you a reminder beforehand,” Anthony said as he stood up to leave.
Danika watched him leave, lost in thought. She’d never met Quinn, but it wasn’t the first time she had heard the woman’s name. She thought that she and Quinn were fated to meet sooner or later.
Sighing, she felt a little annoyed for no reason. She couldn’t say anything to Eustace.
After all, Quinn hadn’t come to see him yet.If she vented her anger at him without reason, she would be the one at fault. She sat in the cafe, contemplating what Anthony had just told her.
Outside the door, Anthony had already gotten into a car.
