Eustace picked Danika up from the hospital, and they were now looking for a place to eat.
“Is the hospital busy these days?”
Eustace and Danika chatted casually while waiting for the traffic light to turn green.
Danika nodded.
“There’s never a time when the hospital isn’t busy.”
“Then, aren’t you working very hard?”
Eustace felt a little worried that Danika was working too hard, but he knew he couldn’t ask her to stop being a doctor.
Danika shook her head and replied, “I’ve gotten used to it.I actually think it’s better to be busy. That way, my days will be more fulfilling.”
“Well, it’s fine as long as you like it.But if you feel tired, then take a break.”
Eustace could only say so much.
Danika knew what he meant and smiled at him.
“Don’t worry, I’m fine.The light’s green; let’s go.”
She looked at the green light ahead and changed the subject promptly.
Eustace didn’t say anything more.
He started the car and continued driving forward.
Just as their car reached the intersection, a large truck on the right suddenly rushed toward them.
The truck seemed to be out of control and showed no signs of slowing down! Danika’s gaze was still on Eustace, and she didn’t notice the truck on the right, but Eustace did.
“Danika!”
he exclaimed and then acted on instinct.
He turned the steering wheel sharply to the right, then protected Danika in his arms.
A loud bang ensued, and both of them felt the loss of gravity.
The next moment, their car fell back onto the ground heavily.
Danika tried to open her eyes to see what had happened, but she passed out due to the huge impact.
The Driver Is Dead
When Danika opened her eyes again, it was already the third day after the car accident.
Although Eustace had shielded her from the impact at that time, she still suffered significant injuries.
Looking at the white ceiling above her, Danika felt momentarily confused and was unable to react.
Stephanie pushed the door open and entered, intending to check on Danika’s condition.
When she saw Danika’s opened eyes, she burst into tears of joy.
“Danika, you’re awake!”
“Yeah,”
Danika responded weakly, her voice hoarse and barely able to croak the word.
Seeing that, Stephanie quickly brought her some water so that she could take a small sip.
Danika felt much more comfortable after hydrating her throat. She asked Stephanie to help her sit up against the headboard and slowly came to her senses.
“Where is Eustace?”
Stephanie’s expression became a little apprehensive at her question, but she didn’t hide anything from her best friend.
“He’s still in the ICU.”
Hearing that, Danika’s complexion paled in response.
She was already lacking in color, but now her face became even whiter and more frightening.
“Don’t worry.Your parents have found him the best doctors. As long as he can make it through these next two days, he’ll be fine,”
Stephanie comforted her.
Danika forced a bitter smile.
She didn’t know what to say.
If Eustace hadn’t turned the steering wheel to the right at that time, she would be the one lying in the ICU now.
Initially, the big truck was coming straight at her, but Eustace turned the steering wheel and managed to steer her away from the devastating impact.
“What about that driver…”
“He’s already dead,”
Stephanie answered.
Danika’s face was gloomy.
She didn’t think it was an accident.
“Who was he?”
“It seems like he was just a thug.He seemed to be drunk at the time.”
Stephanie replied.
She didn’t know the details either.
She’d been taking care of Danika these past few days and hadn’t paid much attention to other things.
Danika didn’t ask any further.
The most important thing for her was to wait for Eustace to wake up.
As for the culprit behind it, she would hunt them down later.
“Steph, help me get to the ICU.I want to see him,”
Danika requested and tried to get up.
She couldn’t feel at ease without seeing Eustace.
This time, Stephanie didn’t agree with her.
She stopped Danika swiftly.
“You just recovered! You can’t get out of bed.”
“I know my body. There’s nothing wrong with it,”
Danika insisted.
“No, you can’t.Anyway, you can’t do anything by going to Eustace’s side now.You can’t even get into the ICU.”
Stephanie was equally insistent.
She felt that Danika should rest well for the time being.
Danika felt helpless, as she couldn’t walk to the ICU alone without Stephanie’s support.
When she was stressing over what to do, the door to her ward opened again.
This time, Gilbert and Zack walked in.
“Danika? When did you wake up?”
Both of their expressions lit up when they saw she was awake.
They’d been feeling guilty for the past few days, ever since Danika had been lying in bed due to the accident.
Recently, they had both been busy with their own affairs.
Zack had been staying by Janet’s side every day, while Gilbert had been busy making money because he’d given all his liquid assets to Marigold.
As a result, they had both neglected caring for Danika, and they didn’t expect something like that to happen.
When Danika saw the two of them, she instantly asked for their help, hoping they would indulge her.
“I woke up a while ago.Can you help me get to the ICU, please?”
