After all, Pete was his eldest son, and he also had a team of capable men. He didn’t mind handing over the family responsibilities to Pete if the kid looked promising. However, he wouldn’t waste time on Pete if he was hopeless. Eric had many sons, one of whom would prove to be smart and worthy of the position.
Meanwhile, Pete had moved into Dafoe Mansion after Eric left. He was busy strengthening the security at home. Everything looked smooth and secure.
“Stop looking out. Danika and Graham Zellweger had better not come. If they show up, I promise not to let them leave alive,” Pete provoked Lynette, who was on the second floor.
She went silent as she secretly worried about the doubled-up security at the mansion. She knew this was the best chance for Danika to make a move, but Eric might have foreseen the plan. He wouldn’t allow her to be rescued.
She thought, “Danika, I’d rather you and your dad leave than put yourselves in danger.”
Danika and her men moved fast. When gunshots rang in the compound, Pete jumped up from the couch and yelled, “Take them down! I’ll watch over that woman!”
With that, he ran to the second floor and pointed a gun at Lynette’s head.
The guards were worried that he’d take the opportunity to kill Lynette, but none had the guts to speak up. Before Eric left, he had instructed them to take orders from Pete. When they left the mansion to take on Danika’s men, he let go of Lynette and smirked. “You should thank your lucky stars for that good daughter of yours. I’d really like to get rid of you if not for her.”
“Pete, what are you doing?” Lynette was no fool. She sensed that Pete was acting rather unusually, and he didn’t seem to be holding her hostage.
He glanced at her and chuckled. “What else can I do? I’m working with Danika.”
“You…” She stared at him, bewildered. Why would Eric Dafoe’s son work with Danika?
However, Pete didn’t bother to explain himself. He shoved Lynette into her bedroom and stood guard over her. He had no idea about Danika’s resources and wondered if they could take down Dafoe Mansion security. At the end of the day, he would not step a foot outside of the mansion for fear of getting injured. Whatever the outcome, it wouldn’t affect him much.
The gunshots didn’t last for long. Truth be told, Eric had underestimated the capability of the Zellwegers and the Quinceys. Although they were not from Bayside City, with their influence, they could descend on the Dafoes with an army they assembled. The Dafoes would be no match.

“Is…is everything settled?” Pete sounded uncertain.
Danika nodded and turned her attention to Lynette.
“Let’s go.There’s no time to waste.I’m worried that Eric Dafoe has something else in store for us.”
“Right, right.Leave now!”
Pete was equally concerned.
“But what do I do if you leave me behind?”
He was the only one standing after everyone else was taken down by Danika’s forces.
Not only that, Lynette was gone.
Wouldn’t he be in hot water? Danika glanced at him and gestured at someone behind her.
A woman showed up at the door, and Pete’s jaw promptly fell to the floor.His gaze traveled between Lynette and the other woman.
Even Lynette was similarly baffled.
“After we leave, this woman will remain here.From now on, she will be Lynette Bell.When the time comes, you can tell Eric that everyone was taken down, but you forced us to leave by pointing a gun at her head.As for how long you can go without Eric finding out about the fake Lynette, it’s all your luck,” Danika explained.
She had made all the necessary arrangements for Pete.She contacted the Glasses and got in touch with the woman who resembled Lynette.
Before this, Rowena had attempted to force Graham and Danika into submission using the woman, but they managed to see through the lie.She brought the woman to Bayside City and taught her Lynette’s mannerisms.
Truthfully, if Eric didn’t spend his time at the mansion daily, it’d be hard for him to spot the fake Lynette.
Still, there was a chance he’d see through the setup instantly after his many years living with her.
In the end, it all boiled down to luck.
Luck? Pete felt a shiver down his spine.
“Do you take my father as a fool?”
“How about this? Tell him that we brought Lynette with us, but she decided to return.You believe she came home because she couldn’t part with the luxurious life.That’s why she refused to go with us.And tell him that you never thought she was a fake,”
Danika cooked up an excuse for Pete.He agreed that it was a better lie than the first one.
“Okay then.You should go.Be prepared in Bardoff City.I bet he’ll be after you in no time.”
He didn’t believe he could stall Eric for long with the fake Lynette.
“Okay.”
Danika nodded.
Even without Pete’s reminder, she’d be fully prepared to take Eric on.
She turned to Lynette and said defeatedly, “Let’s go.”
“Just like this? But I’m still legally married to Eric…”
Everything felt unreal to Lynette, who thought leaving was futile because she would still be Eric’s wife on paper.
Danika understood her concern, but she didn’t have time to explain.
“Don’t worry about that.I’ll take care of everything.Just listen to me now and come with me.”
Lynette stared at the daughter she hadn’t seen since birth while struggling with complicated feelings.
Danika was a familiar stranger to her.
“Okay.I’ll listen to you,” she finally agreed, out of desperation to escape from Dafoe Mansion and her wish to live with Danika.She had missed the early years of her daughter’s life and wouldn’t want to miss out on the remaining time she had with Danika.

Danika left with Lynette and her men.
Pete went up to the fake Lynette and asked, “What’s your name?”
“Lynette Bell,” the woman answered in a tone and mannerisms that resembled Lynette.
Pete thought that was a non-answer, but at least she was immersed in her role.
“Okay.Go to bed and rest.If Eric Dafoe comes home, try not to talk to him too much.” He believed that sleeping was the best course of action.
The lookalike might fumble if she talked to Eric.
The woman agreed and lay down in bed.
After that, Pete exited the room and was greeted by the sight of other men.
They were not stationed at the mansion but rushed over after getting the news of the attack.
“Mr.Pete, what happened?” they asked.
“The Zellwegers charged at us and killed many of our brothers.It’s despicable!”
He gritted his teeth with acting that deserved an Oscar award.
“How merciless! We’ll go after them!”
The men sprang into action but were stopped by Pete.
“It’s fine.They have been gone for a while.I bet we can’t even track them down.Just inform my father.”
No one objected to his suggestion.
“So, is Mrs.Dafoe…”
“Tell my father not to worry.She’s still here,” Pete explained.
Someone immediately called Eric, while the others cleaned up the mansion.
They soon realized that the losses were not as huge as previously assumed.
Most of the men were alive but lost consciousness due to excessive blood loss.
That kept the new group of men busy, sending their wounded brothers to the hospital.
In no time, Pete got a call from an enraged Eric, who barked, “What happened?”
“Just like you predicted, Danika Zellweger made a move,” Pete replied.
“What about Lynette?”
Eric’s priority was to keep his wife safe, and he couldn’t care less about the casualties.
Smirking, Pete answered, “She’s still in the mansion.She was taken by Danika at first, but for some reason, she came back.I reckon she probably couldn’t bear to part with our family wealth.She’s not as virtuous as she seems, you know.”
Pete still sounded as disdainful as before.However, the situation felt odd to Eric.
“Did you say she was taken earlier but came home by herself?”
“Yeah.”
