“What… What do we do then? Are we really unable to do anything with that monster?” Landon asked, frustrated.
Jeremy appeared to be deep in thought. “If that’s the case, then we definitely need to let Sophia know that we’ve caught Jeffrey.”
Alyssa instantly understood what Jeremy intended to do, given how intelligent she was. She wrapped her arms around his waist excitedly, nuzzling into his chest. “Dang, you are one evil man. How could someone be so devious? I was right to call you a bastard before, wasn’t I?”
Jeremy’s voice was raspy as passion burned in his eyes. “You don’t need to be so vague about complimenting me next time, love.”
The three other men present were unable to stomach this any longer.
What were Jeremy and Alyssa doing? Showing off?
“Uh… Why don’t you guys deal with Jeffrey? I’m going to go back. home and rest for a few days. My wife’s still waiting for me,” Landon spoke as he turned and ran off. “Bye for now! Don’t lose hope, okay? Justice will triumph over evil in the end! You guys got this!”
Just like that, Landon was gone.
Everyone else was left speechless.
“Uh… The Lovelaces’ hospital has a pretty good neurologist team.
Turper you uncok up tie oomoume; reuni give him a discount,” Julien said, nudging Jonah’s arm.
Jonah glanced at him silently, letting him do whatever he wanted.
Alyssa and Jeremy nodded eagerly at the suggestion. “Sounds like a wonderful idea!”
After saying goodbye to everyone, Landon sped home right away.
He had been keeping up a tough, manly act in front of everyone in the past few days. When no one was around, he secretly swiped longingly through his photos with Lauren, missing his darling wife.
Landon couldn’t take another day without Lauren any longer. He hadn’t been able to eat or rest well because of it. Seeing Jeremy and Alyssa acting so lovey-dovey had been his last straw.
Night fell in Solana City.
The temperature had been rising fast these few days without Landon’s presence. All the plants in the garden eagerly welcomed the change.
It had been five days without a word from Landon. Angelina didn’t dare contact him, yet she was so worried it was difficult to enj meal in peace. She only did two things these past few days-ter lovely little Lauren and wait for Landon to come home.
Angelina stood outside the door tonight, smartly dressed as she awaited his return.
She had a feeling Landon would be home soon. If not tonight, then. tomorrow.
Just then, a white luxury car broke the silence of the night. With a shrill screech of the brakes, it came to a stop beside Angelina.
Tears of joy flooded Angelina’s eyes as she saw Landon exit and march toward the door safely. Her hands trembled in gratitude.
“You’re back, Mr. Harper.”
“What are you doing waiting out here so late at night?” Landon looked her up and down before he asked in shock, “You… haven’t been standing here waiting for me every day, have you?”
“No, no. I couldn’t sleep tonight, so I decided to enjoy the night breeze out here. It just so happened that you came back,” Angelina said with a smile, keeping the truth from Landon.
Her feelings for Landon came from a deep space within her, but she never showed it externally.
“Where’s Madam? Has she gone to sleep?” Landon asked worriedly.
“Yes, Madam Lauren has just gone to bed.”
Landon’s shoulders slumped over as he said in a disappointed tone, Gosh… I drove so fast even the brakes were whining in complaint, but
I still missed it!”
Landon knew just how deeply Lauren slept. She was like a mode day Sleeping Beauty.
If it weren’t for Landon getting all handsy with her back then and keeping her up, there was no way they could get anything done during the night. Landon always had to wait till Lauren woke up.
Angelina smiled. “It’s alright, Mr. Harper. At the very least, you no longer need to suffer from longing and distance.”
That was correct.
But Landon was already burning up from having to hold back these days. Who could he possibly seek out to help quench his needs? What was he to do? Rub one out while taking a cold shower?
What a pathetic life he had.
Just as Landon was about to enter the household, he noticed a scab on Angelina’s left cheek under the faint light, like she had been scraped by something sharp.
Landon squinted and noticed Angelina’s left cheek was significantly more swollen than her right.
“What happened to your face?” Landon asked, brows furrowing.
“It’s nothing, Mr. Harper,” Angelina replied as her eyes went downcast, hiding from Landon.
“Nothing? Do you think I’m blind? You were clearly hit in the face!” Anger flooded Landon’s eyes as he hissed, “Who hurt you? Who dared hurt one of mine when I wasn’t around? I’m going to peel the skin off his ass!”
Knowing it was futile to hide the truth any longer, Angelina said dejectedly, “Ms. Zoe came by this afternoon demanding to see Madam Lauren.”
“What was Zoe doing here?” Landon’s heart clenched.
“Ms. Zoe said she and Madam Lauren were schoolmates from middle school and had a pretty good bond during those days. She said she’s had time to think about her past actions and said she shouldn’t have been so selfish and reckless.
“That’s why Ms. Zoe came over wanting to talk to Madam Lauren to make up with her,” Angelina explained.
“Do you buy that shit?” Landon snapped.
Angelina replied faintly, “I didn’t let her into the house.”
“So Zoe hurt you just because you wouldn’t let her see Madam?”
Angelina stayed silent.
“Hmph! Then all that she said about making nothing more than bullshit!” Landon took a deep breath to suppress his rage. “Zoe was looking to ambush Lauren today. She’s so good at putting up an act these days you’d think Sophia adopted her!”
Angelina smiled in exasperation.
“You’ve suffered much from being pitted between me and my sister while taking care of Lauren,” Landon said with a sigh, feeling guilty. ” Why don’t you take a vacation starting tomorrow? I’ll stay with. Lauren. Don’t you like traveling? You can use my card and enjoy yourself.”
“It’s no trouble, sir. I was only fulfilling my responsibility as your subordinate,” Angelina said calmly, even as warmth filled her chest.
Landon tiptoed into the bedroom.
He didn’t dare switch on the lights nor put on any slippers for fear that Lauren would be awakened. He slowly inched toward Lauren, who was curled up on the bed. Landon seemed like the big bad wolf closing in on its prey for some reason.
Landon stood over Lauren for some time, gazing deeply at her.
Finally, he leaned in and kissed her on the lips.
“Goodnight, my darling wife. Sleep well. I’ll play with you in the morning,” he murmured.
Landon was about to leave when a pair of arms suddenly wrapped themselves around his waist.
“Lauren…” Landon’s heart leaped into his throat.
Lauren clung onto him tearfully, croaking out, “You’re finally home, Landon. Why were you away for so long? I thought you wouldn’t come back anymore. I thought you didn’t want me anymore…
Tears fell down Lauren’s cheeks and landed on Landon’s back, piercing his heart painfully.
Lauren hadn’t fallen asleep yet.
She just wasn’t sure if her lover had really come back. She thou she was dreaming at first.
Landon turned around and hugged his wife, one hand clasped around the back of her head and tenderly caressing her hair.
“Silly … I’d rather have the world be my sworn enemy than give you up. You’re my everything.”
“But you were away for so long… You’ve never left me alone for that long.” Lauren sobbed, feeling aggrieved. Her hands were wrinkling Landon’s black shirt.
“We were catching a bad guy, after all. He was cunning, so catching.
