At this thought, he reserved a seat on a flight back to Parrington. It was time for him to see his grandfather.

After their meeting in the coffee shop, Danika no longer went to see Eustace. But when she knew that he had gone to Parrington to visit his grandfather, she heaved a sigh of relief.

Fortunately, Eustace had not lost his emotions despite losing his memories.

Today was her first day of work at Bardoff Hospital. Danika got up early, not wishing to leave a bad first impression of outsiders. Rowena would never believe that Danika wasn’t a part of it.

Although Graham disliked the Glasses, he had never intended to target them all these years. But now that Danika was home, everything changed. It had to be Danika pulling the strings.

Danika sat at the table, eating her breakfast calmly. “Where did you hear that from?”

“Heard it? Everyone in Bardoff City knows it!” Early morning, news of the Zellwegers and the Windsors teaming up to take down the Glasses had bombarded the media.

Neither family had stepped up to deny it, which meant it was true. with a bunch of outsiders. Rowena would never believe that Danika wasn’t a part of it.

“Heard it? Everyone in Bardoff City knows it!” Early morning, news of the Zellwegers and the Windsors teaming up to take down the Glasses had bombarded the media. Neither family had stepped up to deny it, which meant it was true.

Don’t Forget Whose Side You’re On

The Glasses were in an uproar. They had called her early in the morning, demanding to know why she hadn’t informed them of such important news.

Rowena would have liked to, but she had no idea what was happening. Graham had done this all behind her back. He had not let her in on anything.

Danika took her phone out and took a look at the news. It was true. Who had leaked this?

It could not be the Zellwegers or the Windsors. The Glasses were suspicious, but since they could not confirm it, they had no reason to make themselves implode. It would not have benefitted them at all.

She kept her suspicions to herself. She ignored Rowena, which incensed her. “Danika Zellweger! I know you don’t like me, but you didn’t have to convince your father to go against my family! The Glasses are my family. What would the outsiders think of you making Graham do this? Aren’t you afraid that the Zellwegers will be counterattacked?”

Danika looked at her and smirked. “You think too highly of yourself, don’t you?” Counterattacked?

Rowena wasn’t worth all that.

“You!” Rowena was furious. “This is a symbiotic relationship! The Zellwegers and the

Windsors can target the Glasses, but what about the next time? The other elites are going to think that you’re both too powerful. They’ll team up and attack you next!”

Rowena’s words made sense. Danika was afraid of this, which was why Graham and

James carried out their plans quietly. Now that it was exposed and out in the open, the

Glasses would definitely ask the other families for help.

Things would get tricky from now on.

“Since you’re so afraid about a war happening between the elites, why don’t you tell the Glasses that this is all a misunderstanding and that they don’t have to get the other elites to help?’ Danika looked at Rowena with a smile on her face.

Rowena couldn’t believe what she had heard. She looked at Danika, for a moment not knowing who was the fool.

“If you’re worried about the Zellwegers, you’ll get your father to stop. The Zellwegers and Glasses are not on such bad terms with each other that this has to happen.” The Glasses were her family. If they were destroyed, she would not have a happy ending.

Her plan was to take over Zellweger Inc with the Glasses and Graham’s uncle’s help. They had just started their plan. However, the Zellwegers were already several steps ahead, teaming up with the Windsors to maim the Glasses.

If this continued, the first ones to be taken out of the battlefield would be the Glasses. Danika ate her breakfast, smiling at Rowena’s words. ‘You and I know nothing about business, Rowena. Just stay at home and stop yourself from worrying so much.”

Let’s Hope You Don’t Regret This

Danika smirked. “You think too highly of me. I could never change my father’s decision.’ “Are you really going to turn the family against all the other Elites in Bardoff City, Danika?” Rowena asked harshly.

Danika hummed nonchalantly. “You should tell Dad if you’re worried about the Glasses. He might be able to help.”

“You!” Rowena yelled, about to lunge at Danika. But she held herself back, knowing she was no match for Danika.

She took a deep breath to calm down.

“Let’s hope you don’t regret your choices today,” she said before leaving dramatically. Danika didn’t know where she was going or what she would do next, but something told her it wasn’t anything good.

She then called Alfred to have some of his men keep an eye on Rowena in case she messed with their plans. She also reminded him about the bar opening. It was best to do it soon; otherwise it’d only get tiring for him if he had to keep handling errands alone.

Danika soon finished her breakfast and left for Bardoff Hospital. The neurosurgical lab was already packed with activity when she arrived. They had all crowded the department upon hearing of a new colleague.

Danika went to her superior’s office to clock in. The man was partial to her skills as a surgeon as well as a witness to her academic ability, so he more than welcomed her to the lab.

“Work hard, Danika, and I’m sure you’ll soon find yourself in my shoes,” the man praised her, though Danika only gave a perfunctory smile. “C’mon and meet your colleagues.”

He soon gathered everyone in the conference room and quickly introduced Danika to them, then had them return to their posts.

“Would you mind showing Danika around. Dr. Forbes?” he asked a senior surgeon. Michael Forbes, who had worked there for some time, gave Danika a friendly smile.

“Sure.”

After the man left, Michael led Danika to the surgery rooms firsts and then to different labs, where she was introduced to the hospital’s outline. It was her first time there, after all.

Danika couldn’t start as the deputy director in her department as she did in Parrington Hospital. But she didn’t mind. All that mattered was that she could help others.

The whole day was spent following Michael around and picking up on the flow in the hospital. Danika ended up clocking out without having performed any surgeries or checkups. Her plan to invite everyone to dinner fizzled when she noticed how busy they were. She was about to leave when Derrick Clearwater caught up with her

You Misunderstood Me

“You really are here! I was getting worried you wouldn’t be coming.’ Derrick had been looking out for news of Danika these few days as he needed to decide whether he should date McKenna. When his colleague said a new neurologist was coming in, he immediately thought it might be Danika, and sure enough, here she was.

Displeasure flared in Danika’s eyes for a split second before she responded, “Mhm. Today’s my first day.’

“I’m glad to hear it. Wanna celebrate?’ Derrick then decided to take action. While McKenna’s father was a director, Derrick had bigger appetites beyond mere nurses, and Danika was right up his alley.

Danika just didn’t want to be involved with this man. She didn’t have a good feeling about him. “Not today, I’m afraid. I already have plans.’

“Great! Let’s go, then. We’re all friends, aren’t we?’ Derrick beamed as if they were really close friends.

Danika could only maintain a polite smile. They were acquaintances at most, even while studying. As much as she wished to get rid of Derrick, they were still colleagues, so she couldn’t risk making a scene.

“Ah…another day, maybe. My treat, she said. Derrick nodded. “I’ll hold you to your word.”

“Mhm.” There was a cafeteria in the hospital that would be the perfect place fortheir meal together, she thought. She promised she’d treat him to dinner, not where it would be.

Danika then left the hospital for home.

After she left, McKenna came up to Derrick, who was still staring off into the distance with a happy expression. She asked coldly, “What do you think you’re doing?”

Derrick nearly jumped with fright. “Shit! You scared me, McKenna!’

“You wouldn’t have been scared if you weren’t feeling guilty,” McKenna huffed. She had seen how Derrick looked at Danika earlier with those puppydog eyes of his.

A week ago, Derrick would’ve immediately given a whole explanation of his motives just to appease McKenna, but now that he was going to pursue Danika, he wouldn’t waste his time doing so anymore.

Derrick cleared his throat. “What do you mean, McKenna? I have nothing to be scared of.”

“Really? So what, do you like her or something?” McKenna demanded, pointing in the direction Danika had just gone to.

To her surprise, Derrick didn’t try to lie like he used to. Instead, he replied, “I do, McKenna. I really do.”

The woman was stunned upon hearing that, gaze filled with disbelief. “You just said yesterday that I was your one and only. Were you lying to me, you jerk?!”

“You misunderstood me, McKenna. What I meant yesterday was that you’re the only person I care for like a sister,” Derrick said.

Sister? McKenna had honestly never met such a lousy piece of shit in her life before. When was she a sister when they flirted with each other? She wanted to slap Derrick but stopped herself when she recalled that they were in public.

“Fuck you, Derrick Clearwater. What the hell do you take me for, huh?” Her eyes were already red, brimming with tears. Sure, she didn’t grow up rich, but not once had her parents been so unkind to her.

Trial by Combat

“I know you like me, McKenna, but please understand, I only do like you as a sister,’ Derrick repeated as if he was the one being wronged.

Now that she had seen how big an asshole Derrick was, any lingering feelings she had for him had dissipated entirely. “Just you fucking wait, you dick!”

She’d make sure Derrick would pay for treating her like a lovesick idiot!

As she stormed away, Derrick couldn’t help but worry about his job stability.

McKenna’s father was his superior, after all, so he would be in deep shit if they really planned to punish him. But still, the man was known to keep personal and professional matters apart, so Derrick might not suffer too much at his hands. Plus, it’s not like he reached beyond first base with McKenna.

Derrick relaxed upon reassuring himself. Now he should focus on how to score with Danika.

He gave his friends in Parrington a call to update himself on Danika’s life there. Because of this call, he came to hear Danika’s true identity as the daughter of the

Zellweger family. A family that was one of the Ten Elites of Bardoff City. Though Derrick had never gotten so much as a glimpse of the Ten Elites, he had still heard of them.

It suddenly felt surreal how close he was to one of the Elites. His worries for life after marriage with Danika swiftly dissipated as well. Not only would he gain a reputation after marrying her, but he’d also no longer have to worry about not living well.

Derrick snickered at the thought, as if he had actually married Danika. Danika, meanwhile, had long forgotten about him. To her, any more time spent dealing with that man was time wasted.

“A letter for you, miss.” The butler handed her an envelope.

“Letter? Who still writes letters these days,” she thought.
