She hoped that James would be in a better mood today.

While her mind drifted off, someone sent her a message. She took her phone, her worried expression instantly shifting to one of anger.

It was a photo of Danika sitting in James’ car.

The person who had sent her the text was Philippa, her assistant from when she worked at Zellweger Inc.

They no longer kept in touch after Jolene left, but now she was unexpectedly sending her a message.

Jolene didn’t care about that, though. She only cared about Danika and James.

They were having lunch together, and she was at home, waiting for him to come with food already prepared.

She was furious.

In one swift motion, she swept all the food off the table, scattering them all over the floor.

“Bitch!” she screamed.

She was already engaged to James, but Danika was still seducing him.

In a fit of rage, she ran upstairs to put on new clothes and stormed out.She was going to rip Danika’s face apart.

No One Cared About Her

James and Danika sat in a private booth in the restaurant.

Danika wanted to ask him how he was doing, but she didn’t know how to phrase it.She was afraid that she’d make him upset.

“I’ve been so busy lately that I haven’t had the time to catch up with you.How have you been?” James asked.

He had a smile on his face as if things were just like before.

Danika felt even more worried seeing him like this.

“I’m doing pretty well. What about you?”

“Me?”

James raised his eyebrows and slowly poured her a cup of coffee.

“I’m fine.”

In fact, with someone to yell at every day he got home, he felt even better than before.

Danika wanted to ask him about his situation with Jolene, but she knew it would upset him if she did.She had to keep it to herself.

Not long after, the waiter served them their food.

“You’ve lost weight.Have things been hectic lately at Zellweger Inc?” James asked, handing her a plate of mashed potatoes.

Danika shook her head.

“Not at all.On the contrary, I think I gained weight.”

Nonsense.You should be eating more.”

James handed her yet another plate of food as if he was worried that she didn’t have enough.

Danika didn’t refuse the food.

Back when they were under Mr.Birkett’s mentorship, James would give her food just like this.

At the thought of Mr.Birkett, Danika asked, ”Have you heard from Mr.Birkett lately? He’s been in Skaland for quite some time now.”

Mr.Birkett would usually visit Skaland two weeks at a time.

But now, he seemed to be there for a while.

“I’m not sure, either. He did try to contact me before, but I wasn’t around.”

James didn’t think it was unusual.

He smiled, saying, “Old people are like that.He probably found a really nice place and decided to settle down.”

“Really?” Danika ate, feeling worried.

“If you’re worried about him, I’ll get someone to find him,” James said, sensing she was anxious.

Danika thought about it for a while.

In the end, her anxiety took over.

“Yes.He’s already of old age, and no one is by his side.”

Mr.Birkett had trained a few people, but Danika was his last student. She didn’t contact her other seniors often, only James.

When she joined, only James was there.

The rest had gone off on their own paths.

“Alright.I’ll get someone to find him when I get back.Don’t you worry,” James promised.

He learned from Mr.Birkett not because he loved painting; he just wanted to enhance his wisdom. He didn’t expect to meet Danika there.

In retrospect, it was the best decision he had ever made.

As they ate, Jolene reached the entrance of the restaurant. She bribed the waiters and learned from them that Danika and James were in the private booth. She rushed toward them at once. She slid open the door.

They were stunned, turning their heads toward her.

“Danika, you bitch!”

Jolene darted at Danika before they could even react.

Right before her sharp claws landed on Danika’s face, she was sent flying by one of Danika’s kicks. She crashed onto the ground, considerably hurt.

“Sorry.Old habits die hard,”

Danika apologized, but there was no hint of remorse on her face.

Jolene came looking for trouble, and Danika wasn’t going to hold back.

“You…I…”

Jolene stammered, unable to even say a word.

Tears streamed down her face. What a pity.No one there cared about her.

I Hate You

It took a long while for Jolene to prop herself up. She looked at James and Danika standing together as if they were the couple and she was the mistress.

A thunderstorm of emotions surged through her chest.

“I’m your fiancee, James! How could you do this to me?” Jolene looked at James with tears in her eyes, holding back her pain. She thought he would appreciate her effort these past few days and would at least stand up for her at that moment.

Alas, he did not.

Danika looked at her coldly, but James’ gaze was even colder. He walked toward her and lifted her chin. “Who let you in here? Who do you think you are?”

“If you want to stay in my house, you’ll have to suck it up. Don’t you dare say that something is going on between Danika and me. Even if there was, you have no right to point it out.” His tone was ice cold. He was gripping her hard, and her chin quickly turned red.

Jolene was so angry that she burst into sobs, but crying was no use. James would only hate her even more.

“Fuck off!” He waved her off, not wishing to see her for another second.

In that instant, Danika pitied Jolene. But she had only herself to blame. This was all her doing.

Jolene left. She couldn’t stay. Things would only be worse if she did. However, Danika had now witnessed another side to James.

“Sorry about that. She disrupted your mood,” James apologized to Danika. He was even a little embarrassed to meet her eyes.

Danika shook her head. She didn’t mind. “Why did you let her stay with you if you hate her so much?”

James could ignore her completely. Their engagement didn’t matter. As long as they didn’t marry, there was really nothing much between them.

After some time, once they found something to use against Jolene, they would have a reason to cancel the wedding. If that happened, even the Windsors would have nothing to say.

“Since she wants to be with me so much, I’ll fulfill her wishes.” He just wasn’t sure if she regretted it yet.

James’ face was dark and moody. Danika rarely ever saw this side of him.” Are you planning on marrying her?”

“Let’s just eat.” James didn’t reply to her question. There were just some things that he couldn’t change.

Quit Pretending

Danika had no idea what Rowena and Jolene were conspiring, but she had her own line of defense.
