“Hmph, who knows,” Eustace said coldly, clearly skeptical.
His tone made Danika feel uncomfortable, and her expression hardened.
“Eustace, you need to understand that we are in a business partnership.I’m not your subordinate, and you have no right to act all high and mighty with me.”
Seeing her angry, Eustace frowned slightly.
“I’m just reminding you not to get too close to the other Quinceys. They might have ulterior motives when they approach you.”
“That would be none of your business, Mr.Quincey.After all, I’m not very familiar with you either.”
Danika glanced at him, her expression indifferent.
Eustace was slightly annoyed.
He sneered, “That’s true.Considering that you have quite a few men around you, you’re not likely to be interested in that idiot, Julian.”
At his words, Danika’s already unhappy expression turned into one of immense displeasure as she looked straight at Eustace.
“Mr.Quincey, are you unhappy with the men around me? Or are you hoping to be one of them?”
“Shameless,” Eustace scolded under his breath.
“You take care of yourself, Mr.Quincey.As for me, there’s no need for you to worry.”
Danika couldn’t be bothered to explain herself to him.
Eustace smirked, his words tinged with sarcasm.
“Worry about you? Miss Zellweger, you really think highly of yourself.”
“You should be on your way now.I won’t see you off,” Danika responded angrily, not wanting to see Eustace for another second.
Why was he so despicable? His words were always so hurtful.
Eustace’s expression soured upon being chased away.
“Who said I’m leaving?”
“Mr.Quincey, if you’re not leaving, are you planning to stay here and sleep with me?”
Danika glared at him, thinking Eustace was acting like he had lost his marbles.
Eustace raised an eyebrow as he looked at her.He smirked and said, “Were you always this casual with men?”
“Get out, Eustace!”
Danika pointed to the door, furious.
Seeing her mad, Eustace’s mood seemed to take a turn for the better. He smiled as he walked toward the door.
“As for the Glasses, I hope you make your move soon.Don’t keep everyone waiting.”
Danika opened her mouth to speak, but no sound came out.
Eustace could still read one word from her lip movements: “Leave.”
He chuckled lightly, finding it somewhat amusing.
Danika felt a little flustered but quickly calmed herself down. She reassured herself that when she first met Eustace, he had always been unpleasant. She had known it early on.
After Danika watched his figure disappear from her line of sight, it took her a while to calm her emotions.
About two hours later, the engagement banquet downstairs ended, and Stephanie finally woke up.
When she woke up, she realized she was lying on an unfamiliar bed.She instantly recalled what had happened, her face turning pale in an instant.
After a quick check, she realized that nothing had happened.
With that, she breathed a sigh of relief.
Upon walking out of the room, she immediately understood why she was unharmed.
“Danika.”
She looked at Danika and was touched.
Hearing Stephanie’s voice, Danika turned to look at her.
“Finally, you’re awake.I was going to call the doctor to examine you again if you didn’t wake up.”
“I’m sorry, I—-“
“It’s not your fault. It’s our fault for not doing a good job with the security and almost causing you harm.”
Before Stephanie could apologize, Danika spoke first.
Stephanie was slightly stunned, and then she understood the meaning behind Danika’s words.
“But I still have to thank you.If you hadn’t appeared in time, I don’t know what would have happened.”
Now that she thought about it, that guy who handed her the glass of wine was definitely up to no good. She blamed herself for being careless.
No Need to Stop Her
Danika pursed her lips and said, after much deliberation, “It wasn’t me who saved you. When I arrived, you were already safe.”
“Huh?”
Stephanie was puzzled.
If it wasn’t Danika, then who else could it be?
‘It was Paul. He’d already taken care of that lecherous man when I arrived.”
Despite not liking Paul, Danika chose to tell Stephanie the truth.
As for what Stephanie would choose, Danika would leave it up to her, but she wouldn’t allow Paul to keep her constantly bound to him.She wanted Stephanie to have the right to choose instead of being denied the chance by Paul.
Hearing that Paul was the one who saved her, Stephanie felt conflicted deep inside, but she quickly smiled and said, “Ich! Who cares if he saved me? He wouldn’t use saving me as leverage against you, would he?”
It wasn’t that Stephanie was prejudiced and thought badly of Paul, but she didn’t have a good impression of him currently.
Danika shook her head.
“No, he didn’t say anything.”
When it came to something like that, Paul hadn’t stooped to such a low level.
Stephanie nodded and stopped thinking about him.
“The banquet should be over by now.Shall we go back?”
“Okay.”
With that, the two of them got up and left the room.
They got downstairs and made their way back.
After Danika sent Stephanie home, she hurried back to her own home.
However, when she walked into the living room, she found it messy, with packed belongings scattered everywhere.
“What’s going on?” Danika asked the maid standing nearby.
“It seems Miss Jolene is moving out,” the maid replied.
Just as the maid finished speaking, voices came from upstairs, or more accurately, arguing voices.
Danika went upstairs to Jolene’s room, where she saw her packing her clothes.
Rowena and Graham were also in her room.
“Dad,” Danika said, attracting everyone’s attention.
Upon seeing her, Graham gestured anxiously and said, “Help me persuade your sister. She insists on moving in with James even though they just got engaged. How can she just move in like this?”
If outsiders knew about this, what would they think of Jolene? Danika was also surprised to hear that and turned to look at Jolene, who spoke up first, “I won’t listen to you.James asked me to move in with him. This means he intends to take things further with me.Isn’t that a good thing?”
She could already guess that Danika wouldn’t have anything nice to say, so she couldn’t be bothered to listen to what she had to say.
Surprisingly, Danika didn’t try to dissuade Jolene.
Instead, she told Graham, “Dad, since Jolene has made her decision, just let her be.What’s the point of trying to persuade her?”
“Danika…”
“You should understand this, Dad.People need to learn to bear the consequences of their choices. You can help her today, but can you help her for a lifetime?”
