“All the famous and affluent families in Bardoff City are here today. If you don’t care about the Zellwegers and Windsors’ reputation, do whatever you want.”

Danika didn’t say anything.

In fact, Jolene was worrying over nothing.

Even if Danika had no regard for the Zellwegers, she couldn’t offend the Windsors and had to respect James’ choice.

Since he had chosen to marry Jolene, it showed that family honor was more important than anything else in his heart.

If she caused trouble, James probably wouldn’t be happy.

Not bothered to continue talking to Danika, Jolene walked out and returned to the door to greet more guests.

The banquet hall was packed, so Danika led Stephanie to a quiet corner to avoid the crowd.

“Steph, you don’t seem very happy today,”

Danika stated, looking at Stephanie with a puzzled expression as she handed her a drink.

Stephanie hadn’t said a word all the way to the hotel, and Danika didn’t know what was on her mind.

“It’s nothing.I’m just not used to this kind of occasion,” Stephanie replied.

In Parrington, the Zelliots were considered a rich family, but they were nothing when compared to the prominent families in Bardoff City.

Helplessly, Danika said, “Steph, it’s been a while since we last met. You’ve gotten gutsy, huh? You even dare to lie to me now.”

“Danika, I…”

“I know you’re worried about Paul. You’re afraid he’ll come back to cause trouble again, aren’t you?”

Danika made a guess what was on Stephanie’s mind without her having to say anything.

Stephanie didn’t deny it; she was indeed worried about this matter.

Danika patted her shoulder and said, “Don’t worry. With me around, Paul won’t stand a chance.”

They were in Bardoff City, after all.

As long as they were here, the Zellwegers could still protect Stephanie and her family.

What Does He Take Me For?

“I heard that Eustace merged his company with Paul’s.What if he takes over the Quinceys? Won’t he be on Paul’s side after he achieves that?” Stephanie expressed her concerns.

If it were just Paul himself, Stephanie wouldn’t be too worried.

No matter what, Paul was not a match for Danika now.

But he had friends—friends who were powerful and shouldn’t be underestimated. She knew a little about the situation between Eustace and Danika.

Since the two of them were completely unrelated now, Eustace would definitely not lend her a hand.

Stephanie’s words weighed on Danika, and she said nothing for some time.

Finally, she spoke up, “Don’t worry.Even if Eustace helps him, we won’t necessarily lose.Although the Quinceys are currently the leading family among the Ten Elites, it doesn’t mean it’ll always stay that way.”

Besides, Danika could seek help from others. She could turn to other families like the Windsors.

As long as she proposed an offer that was attractive enough, no one would refuse.

Stephanie nodded, but her worries did not decrease much. She understood that if it really came to that kind of situation, Danika would do everything to help her.

But did she want to let her friend do everything for her? As they were talking, a figure appeared before them.

“Miss Zellweger, it’s been a while,” Brandon greeted with a smile.

Danika was surprised to see him.She thought Brandon wouldn’t attend the banquet.

After all, he was the joke of the entire Bardoff City now.

Although the Zellwegers paid a heavy price to quell their anger, the Britts still suffered a huge loss.

With a nod, Danika acknowledged his presence.

“Mr.Britt, you’re quite bold to still show up here today.”

“All things considered, today was originally my engagement ceremony with Jolene.Of course, I had to come and take a look,” he replied without a hint of sadness or anger on his face.

Upon hearing his words, Danika felt curious. She stared at him briefly before asking, “You don’t seem very sad.I thought you loved Jolene.”

If he didn’t love her, he wouldn’t have agreed to her conditions so easily back then.

“Love isn’t important for those in our position.” Brandon laughed, appearing carefree.

Danika was confused and couldn’t understand Brandon’s attitude toward the situation.

But one thing she was sure of was that Brandon probably didn’t like Jolene much.

There might have been other reasons which led him to agree to marry her.

Danika thought it was most likely because Jolene was a Zellweger, and on top of that, her mother was from the Glass family.

“Wise words, Mr.Britt.”

Danika didn’t plan to continue talking to him, as they were only acquaintances at best.

After exchanging a few casual pleasantries, they were almost done with the conversation.

However, Brandon didn’t intend to leave Danika alone.

He walked over and sat next to her.

“Miss Zellweger, we’ve already met several times. Why don’t we be friends?”

Danika raised her eyebrows as her gaze landed squarely on Brandon.

“Mr.Britt, stop beating around the bush.Don’t take me for a fool.”

Friends? Brandon wasn’t short of friends.

“You’re a straightforward one, Miss Zellweger.”

Brandon wasn’t ashamed that Danika called his bluff.

On the contrary, he admitted unflinchingly, “I think you’re nice, so I would like for you to give me a chance.”

Danika and Stephanie were both rendered speechless.

They struggled to comprehend how Brandon was audacious enough to suggest such a thing.

“I’m sorry, Mr.Britt, but I’m not interested in you.”

Danika rejected him politely, even though she felt quite speechless deep inside.

Did Brandon think since he couldn’t marry Jolene, he could turn to her instead? What did he take her for? It was funny how naive he was.

That Day Will Never Come

Brandon wasn’t angry upon being rejected by Danika. He now felt it would be better to marry a woman like her than Jolene.

When he first saw the news about Jolene and James, he was indeed quite angry, but that anger was quickly replaced by relief, for he was glad he no longer had to marry that foolish woman.

“Miss Zellweger, you don’t have to refuse me so quickly. What if you fall in love with me one day?”

Brandon smiled, thinking that matters of the heart were volatile and unpredictable.

He believed it was easy to win over women—he just needed to romance and treat them well, and they would fall for him.

A corner of Danika’s mouth twitched. She couldn’t understand how Brandon was so confident in himself.

“Mr.Britt, rest assured. That day will never come.”

The moment she said it, Brandon’s face fell immediately.

Danika didn’t mince her words; she went straight for the kill and humiliated him.

Just as he was about to speak again, Danika interrupted him bluntly, “Mr.Britt, the banquet is about to begin.I still have things to do, so please excuse me.”

Danika left right away, dragging Stephanie along. She wasn’t interested in continuing her conversation with Brandon as she could tell his thoughts.

That was precisely the reason she felt disgusted with him.

Someone like him wouldn’t understand what it meant to really like someone.

Everything he did was based on self-interest.

While most people wouldn’t think he was wrong, Danika didn’t hold the same opinion. She was repulsed by people like him.She led Stephanie to another corner.
