Filed to story: My Husband Regrets Divorcing Me (Audrey & Cornell)
Cornell quickly snatched the marriage certificate from Audrey and stowed it and its copy in the car compartment.
Audrey, puzzled, said, “Shouldn’t we keep one each?”
Cornell smiled in satisfaction.
“I’ll keep them with the divorce papers, so they’ll be easy to find later.”
Audrey conceded that his argument made sense. Separating the certificates could lead to inconvenience.
Later, they visited Cornell’s grandfather, who was delighted to see them.
After the visit, Audrey had students to tutor. Cornell decided to drop her off at her destination.
During the drive, Cornell kept an eye on her. He parked the car and closed the doors, his expression serious.
“What’s on your mind?” asked Audrey.
Cornell looked solemn.
“You’re a married woman now. Regardless of your past with Henley, you must understand this. As long as we are married, any contact with him is forbidden.Do you understand?”
“Agreed,” Audrey agreed immediately. He had no intention of contacting Henley.
Cornell’s expression softened slightly at his quick agreement. But he couldn’t resist asking, “Why did you agree so readily, aren’t you afraid he’ll get hurt?”
Audrey felt the need to clear up any misunderstanding from before.
“To be honest, there was never anything between me and him.”
Audrey didn’t feel like delving into this subject. After all, Henley had once saved her life, and she believed it was best to put the past behind her.
As Audrey was about to get out of the car, Cornell suddenly grabbed her hand.
His voice, deep and husky, asked her, “What do you mean by that?”
“Just what I said.”
His grip tightened, making her uncomfortable. Audrey tried to pull away, eager to escape the tension building between them.
But Cornell clung to her, and his voice hinted at a hint of vulnerability.
She hesitated, her question in the air, her anxiety evident.
Cornell, typically self-controlled, seemed to lose his composure when she was near.
His proposal to remarry, under the guise of a pretext for his grandfather’s sake, hinted at a deeper motive. He could not bear the thought of her being with another.
Audrey felt his anxiety rising under her unwavering embrace.
“Let me out, please. I’m running late.”
“What’s your hurry?” asked Cornell, boring his eyes into hers for a moment before leaning closer to her.
In the cramped space of the car, their faces were very close. Audrey could see every detail of her dark eyes, rimmed with thick lashes.
Her eyes caught the light from the streetlights, shining like stars in a vast sky.
Suddenly, Audrey’s heart began to beat furiously, as if it would burst out of his chest.
Time seemed to stretch, turning their impending kiss into a prolonged scene, their lips moving closer to each other until they almost disappeared.
Audrey was stunned, realizing too late that she should have avoided this situation.
But now they were too close, the air around her charged, her thoughts a whirlwind of confusion and chaos.
Just before their lips brushed, Cornell pulled away and said in her ear, “Wish us a happy life.”
A low, resonant chuckle emanated from the back of his throat.
Audrey’s face flushed with embarrassment. Cornell must have meant to tease her. Indeed, he had taken every opportunity to mock her.
Feeling both embarrassed and irritated, Audrey quickly opened the car door. Without a word or even a glance at him, she quickly got out of the car and drove away.
In the hospital ward.
Jarrod’s intense gaze was fixed on Nicole’s pale face. He watched her unblinkingly, absorbed in thought.
If Nicole could see him now, she would mock him for feigning deep emotion.
But it was only in those quiet moments, with Nicole asleep, that Jarrod would let his guard down and show his true feelings.
Suddenly, his phone buzzed, breaking the silence.
As Jarrod stepped out into the hallway to answer it, he learned from Alec that two women who had hurt Nicole had been released on bail by their families.
The two women were Howe’s people.
Worse, Howe had intervened to stop any investigation against those two women.
Since Howe was Jamie’s brother, Alec asked Jarrod for instructions on whether they should investigate further.
Jarrod’s eyes turned cold.
“Keep investigating,” he ordered.
He ended the call. Less than thirty minutes had passed since he left Nicole’s room.
At that moment, Jamie saw Jarrod and rushed over, tears in his eyes.
“Jarrod, how could you embarrass my brother for that slut!”.
“Jamie!” Jarrod’s voice rang out, low and icy, devoid of any hint of a smile.
At that moment, Jarrod’s eyes were full of coldness and cruelty. Jamie was so frightened that she couldn’t help but tremble all over. Jarrod wasn’t usually hard on her.
He had done the same thing before on the yacht. He threw her down without hesitation and she fell to the ground. This was all about Nicole, that bitch.
Jamie realized that Jarrod was changing. He wasn’t treating her like a treasure like he used to.
“Jarrod, don’t… Don’t you love me anymore?”
As he spoke, tears welled up in Jamie’s eyes. But she did her best to hold back her sobs, making her look aggrieved and pitiful.
Nicole hadn’t woken up yet and Jarrod was already getting irritable. He said in a voice tinged with impatience, “That’s not true.”
“Isn’t it true? But you were just being so hard on me!”. Jamie snorted and yelled.
“I’m mad at you!”
She had to prove to Jarrod that she wasn’t a pushover. After all, she knew he liked her to be rebellious. He detested weaklings.
Jamie knew Jarrod liked women who occasionally showed weakness and stubbornness.
Indeed, Jarrod’s tone softened a little. He said, “That’s enough. You haven’t fully recovered yet. Go back and rest first.”
But Jamie was not amused. Instead, he got even angrier. Was he trying to convince her? Or was he chasing her away?
Jamie gritted his teeth and said hatefully, “Jarrod, are you going to let go of the fact that Nicole hurt me? She was determined to kill me.
And what she did to me still gives me nightmares every night.”
“She’s already been punished,” Jarrod said casually.
For a moment, Jamie felt like she was about to lose control of her emotions.
His face contorted in rage. Had Nicole already been punished? What did he mean? Nicole was still alive. They hadn’t punished her enough.
Jarrod was even sorry for Nicole because Nicole had lost her son. Could it be that it was Jarrod’s son?
At the thought, Jamie clenched his fists tightly, Nicole was a bitch!
Jarrod noticed that Jamie kept his head down and looked sad.
He rubbed his temples and shook his head wearily. “I know you’re upset. I’ll ask Alec to take you to choose another village by the river tomorrow.”
With this one, Jamie now had three villas and five large apartments to his name.
Jarrod was always generous with Jamie. He never worried about such things and gave them to him on a whim.
He once promised him that he would transfer eight percent of the shares of his company to Jamie after their wedding.
