He was slightly surprised by her huge reaction.

“Why? Are you scared that I’d leave?”

‘You’re overthinking.Look, you’re talented but not irreplaceable,” she denied, but deep down, she was worried that her company would lose him.

Jeneration Group had newly gone on track, and Alfred’s untimely departure would only cause her to suffer.

Still, she wouldn’t stop him from leaving if he wished to.

Everyone had the freedom of choice, and she had no right to stop him.

Alfred smiled helplessly at her denial.

“You’re a stubborn one.Don’t worry.I won’t leave.”

Somehow, she let out a sigh of relief, and she realized that she had overreacted just now.

“I’m sorry.I was…”

“I know,” he cut her off.

“You don’t have to explain to me.I’m only staying at Jeneration Group to prove my worth. No one can change my decision.”

Despite not being in contact with the Quinceys, he could imagine the complexity of the relationships in the influential family.

If he wanted to contest the position of heir, he might subject himself to harassment and humiliation by others.

Alfred knew he couldn’t put up with the stress, unlike Eustace. He’d rather take it one step at a time.

Therefore, he had nothing but admiration for Eustace’s patience and endurance, which he knew he lacked.

“Yeah,” she replied.

As long as Alfred was around, she wouldn’t have to worry about Jeneration Group, freeing up time for other priorities. He fell into a short silence before blurting out, “Did you argue with Eustace again?”

When she first requested that he look into the issues between Eustace and the Quinceys, he noticed her low mood but didn’t bring up the question. He had turned in the results of his investigation, and Danika probably was up to speed on Eustace’s life.

Hence, he decided to prod her a bit.

“What could we possibly fight about? There’s no relationship between us anyway.” She chuckled.

Technically, the only relationship between Eustace and her was that of an ex-married couple.

“Were you upset at him for returning to his family?”

Alfred was confused by the developments between the two.

The only change was Eustace’s return to the Quinceys.

Danika didn’t answer, for she had no idea how to broach the topic.

It’d be awkward if he pressed on, so he said, “Danika, you’re a great woman. There are many who’d love you.You don’t have to be sad over him.”

“Thanks.”

She knew that it was his attempt at comforting her.

Even though she had been prejudiced against him, she gradually came to realize he was a nice person —as a colleague.

After the call, she went through the information that Alfred sent her.

The information included the latest updates in the Quincey Family.

Eustace and a few other members were called to rejoin the family business, which led to infighting.

That was how Eustace got into serious trouble with some of the family members and put his life in danger.

Alfred didn’t describe how Eustace survived the ordeal.

Perhaps, he failed to obtain that piece of information.

Danika recalled her encounter with Eustace earlier.

Something felt amiss —he was too cold to her, and his eyes were devoid of emotion.

“Has he never loved me? If not, why would he treat me that way?”

The more she mulled over it, the sadder she felt.

She had decided to accept his love when she met him again, regardless of what others would think and whether they had taken down the Glasses.

In the end, she realized that her feelings were one-sided and that Eustace had never wanted to be with her in the first place.

What a Joke!

Rowena brought Jolene to the Glass family’s residence.

“Randy.” Jolene started sobbing when she saw her cousin.

Confused, he hurriedly asked, “What’s the matter? Did anyone bully you?”

She quickly updated him on the events at home.

At the same time, Randy’s dad entered the living room and overheard Jolene’s story.

“How sickening!”

Wayne Glass bellowed, feeling bewildered at how his sister and niece were treated at home.

Jolene quickly greeted him, “Uncle Wayne.”

Rowena, feeling aggrieved, had tears in her eyes.

“Wayne, Graham has crossed a line this time.He wanted to marry Jolene off without considering her feelings.”

She wouldn’t have come to her family for help had she not been forced into a corner, well aware that the Glasses would not side with her in minor arguments with Graham. However, this was a wholly different issue.

Graham marrying Jolene off would mean depriving her of a chance to take over the family business, affecting both Rowena and the Glasses.

“why would he make such a decision?”

Wayne was puzzled by the turn of events because the Zellwegers were not particularly friendly with the Britts.

Why would Graham suddenly insist on a marriage for his daughter? Jolene’s temper flared when the topic was brought up.

“It’s all because of that bitch Danika! She must have said something to Dad and got him to marry me off to Brandon Britt.”

“Danika…”

Wayne mumbled.

It was not his first time hearing the name.

At first, he was unconcerned when he learned about Graham’s secret daughter.

Having kids out of wedlock was not unheard of in influential families, and these children wouldn’t be anything of importance.

To Wayne’s dismay, Graham had allowed Danika to get ahead of Jolene.

What a joke!

“Wayne, I asked you to hire some hitmen for me.Have you found anyone?”

Rowena had not given up after multiple failed attempts to assassinate Danika.

To her, all the problems on hand would be solved if Danika was dead.

Wayne collected himself and nodded at her.

“I’ve made the arrangements. They’ll fly in from abroad soon.”

“From abroad?” She was surprised.

“Yes.If we want to move without Graham getting to the bottom of it, hiring foreign mercenaries is our safest bet.”

Wayne believed that Jolene had to be the one to take over the Zellwegers’ business because that was the safest outcome for the Glasses.

Rowena was touched by his help.

“Wayne, you are the nicest to me.

“Of course. You’re family.Whoever wants to bully you need to get past me,” he replied.

Despite saying that, he had an ulterior motive. He would want Danika gone because he couldn’t predict what would happen if she took over Zellweger Inc.

“Just stay here for a few days. You can go home after I deal with Danika.I bet Graham wouldn’t force Jolene to marry Brandon by then,” Wayne reminded them.

The women nodded and agreed with his decision, as none of them wanted to return to Zellweger Villa.
