She laughs. “Uh… birth?”
“Seriously?”
She lifts her head to meet my stare. “Seriously.”
I whip my head around the room, looking at all my friends, who stare at Maya with varying degrees of shock and curiosity. “Did you know this?!”
“Nope,” Sebastian says. “Why does this keep happening to me?” he asks, clutching his chest. “I don’t think I can take it.”
“No one knows,” Maya says. “We kept it a secret to protect me since hybrids are so rare and sometimes feared or hunted.”
“Is Levi a witch too?” I ask.
“Witches are only female,” Nolan reminds me.
“Oh. Right.” I shake my head and sigh. “Does anyone else have any secrets they want to share with the class? Wes? Nolan? King Malachi?” I ask, pointing at each of them.
“Summoning a full witch to help us will take time, though,” Wesley says, ignoring me while Dr. Russo and Malachi chuckle. “Time we don’t have. We’ll have to contact the crones and ask for permission for help from a coven, and then contact the coven, and—“
“We won’t have to do any of that. Maya’s mom is already on her way,” King Malachi says, and Dr. Russo smiles.
My brows furrow. “Maya’s mom is—“
“A witch, yes,” Maya laughs. “Otherwise I wouldn’t be half witch.”
“No, I get that,” I scoff. “I mean, I thought she was… she is…” I trail off, racking my brain for a memory of any mention of Maya’s mom, but finding none. “I’m so confused,” I say, pinching the bridge of my nose.
“My mate lives in town,” Dr. Russo says. “So we are still close to each other and see each other often. But when Maya was born and her DNA was positive for both werewolf and witch genes, Alpha Harrison agreed to have Renee live away from the pack so no suspicions would be raised. And she placed a spell on the pack that prevents members from remembering details about her or wondering too much about where Maya and Levi’s mother is or what happened to her.”
“Which is why I can’t remember anything about her or if she died or…”
Dr. Russo nods. “It was a drastic measure, but it kept my daughter safe for twenty-four years.”
“And it will continue to keep her safe,” Wesley reassures him. “No one in this room will spill your secret, Maya.”
“I know,” she says. “I trust all of you. And I’m sorry I’ve hidden this from you all for so long, but—“
“We understand,” Haven says, smiling at her.
“Thank you,” Maya says, looking at each of us, gratefulness in her eyes and voice.
“So, what is the plan?” I ask.
“My mom and I will need some time to prepare some of the spells we’ll need. It might take most of the night, so I suggest everyone get some sleep. Especially Taryn, since she’ll need her strength to help us.” Her brows raise and she looks straight at me. “And I mean actual sleep.”
“Killjoy.”
“For real though, I need you all to leave,” Maya says, laughing at me. “My mom and I will need to focus, and while I adore you all, I won’t be able to focus while you’re here.”
“Yes, ma’am,” Seb says, giving her a mock salute.
“What time should we be back?” Taryn asks as everyone stands from their seats except Maya and her dad.
“Eight a.m. That gives everyone plenty of time to rest and eat before we lift the spell and figure out what all is going on with Dominic.”
“Good,” I say, cradling Taryn in my arms as I stand, ready to take her home and pamper her all night so she’s well-rested in the morning. “Because I think we’re all more than ready for some answers.”
TARYNLarge hands roam my body, one skating over my ribs and up my chest and the other traveling down, caressing the tops of my thighs. Warmth spreads through me from where Reid’s hands touch, snaking through my veins like tendrils of smoky incense, sensual and soothing, and equally intoxicating.
His hand comes to my hip, and he presses a kiss to my mark, his thumb stroking in circles on my abdomen. I whimper and sigh and push back against him, closing the almost nonexistent distance between our bodies. My ass rubs his groin, and his hard-as-a-rock dick twitches, a groan falling from his lips as he pinches my nipple and slides his hand between my legs.
“Maya said we needed to sleep,” I say, even as I tilt my hips up, seeking his expert touch.
“Maya isn’t part of our mate bond,” Reid says, brushing his fingers over my entrance. “And we did sleep. All night. And now I want to have my way with you.”
His digit slips between my lower lips, not entering but teasing, and my eyes flutter, my head rolling from the pulse of pleasure he sends through me. He keeps playing with my breasts, switching from one to the other, tormenting my hardened nipples and drawing figure eights around the curves.
His movements are slow and languid, like pure honey dripping from a spoon, and the resulting sensations are just as sweet, too.
“Wait,” I say, clutching at his arm. “I still have my bonnet on. I—“
“Look beautiful,” he says, finishing my sentence for me. I roll my eyes and push his arms to loosen his grip on me. “Where are you going?” he asks, a dangerous edge to his voice.
“To the bathroom,” I say, sliding to the edge of the mattress. “Let me take it off and—“
He follows me, growling, his finger dipping inside my pussy. “You have two minutes in that bathroom and if you’re not finished by then, I’m coming in there and fucking you on the floor. Do you understand me?”
I moan and desire rolls through me, both mine and his, as rich as the deepest red wine. His naked skin against mine is heavenly, a drug I never want to quit. My body turns to face him, and I reach up and pull my bonnet off, tossing it to the floor.
I can do the rest later. Right now, I have something more important to do.
My mate.
