Filed to story: My Husband Regrets Divorcing Me (Audrey & Cornell)
Audrey was in no mood to converse with Henley. Her deception had painted him in a more complex light than she had anticipated.
Audrey responded coolly, “Mr. Brooks, if you have nothing further to discuss, I’ll end the call.”
His voice was distant, aloof.
Henley, disheartened, replied, “I want to help you, Audrey.”
“Really?” Audrey’s skepticism was evident.
“I’m aware of Nicole’s situation. I can help you.”
Audrey, his heart clenching, didn’t wonder how Henley knew. He asked urgently, “Can you really help Nicole?”
“Yes. Let’s talk about it in person.” Henley provided an address and hung up.
When the call ended, Audrey quickly hailed a cab and headed to the address Henley had provided.
The destination turned out to be Henley’s studio.
The studio was spacious. A secretary escorted her to Henley’s office.
Henley, still convalescing, was walking with difficulty when she greeted Audrey and gestured for him to sit down.
Sitting down, Audrey asked, “Henley, what is Nicole’s condition at the detention center?”
“Nicole is not well,” Henley replied, aware of the entire situation, including Nicole’s altercation with Jamie.
He also warned that Nicole could be harmed in custody.
Alarmed, Audrey asked, “How is that possible? She hasn’t been convicted yet.”
Henley adjusted his glasses and explained, “Consider the environment of the detention center. Jarrod has arranged for people to target Nicole there.”
Audrey was speechless, horrified by Jarrod’s cruelty. Jarrod had not let Nicole go, had even arranged for Nicole’s torture while in detention.
Worried about Nicole, Audrey pleaded, “Henley, please, you must get Nicole out of there soon!”
Henley, moved by her plea, replied, “I can help, but I have a condition.”
His eyes had a wolf-like intensity, unsettling Audrey.
“What is the condition?” she asked.
Henley got up and sat near Audrey, his presence unsettling her.
Audrey backed away, but Henley pulled her close.
He stroked her face, his voice low and rough.
“Be my bride.
From now on, I’ll be the only man in your life.”
Audrey’s complexion was porcelain, with soft, full lips.
Henley felt a new and unfamiliar urge inside her, an urgent longing unlike anything she had ever experienced before.
Audrey felt trapped. Henley’s gaze was dark and overwhelming. Without waiting for her response, Henley kissed her roughly.
Audrey was puzzled, unable to respond immediately.
After all, they were in his office.
Audrey couldn’t believe that Henley would dare behave so inappropriately in such a place.
He turned away, covering Henley’s mouth, struggling to free himself.
Henley, driven by a fierce inner turmoil, seemed unwilling to let go easily. His restless demeanor suggested an intense, devouring desire for Audrey.
With one thrust, he pressed her against the couch.
He held her hands tightly as he pinned her against the couch.
Audrey felt a sense of panic as if she didn’t recognize Henley.
“Henley, stop! You can’t make me. Let go of me,” she protested.
Henley removed his glasses, his eyes losing their warmth, turning cold and merciless.
“Audrey, you were meant to be mine a long time ago,” he said, his voice unnerving.
Audrey, confused and overpowered, couldn’t push him away. He stepped back, sternly demanding, “Let me go, now.”
Henley stroked his hair, glancing at the pendant around his neck.
“Don’t worry, Audrey. I’ll never hurt you. But you must be mine.”
He leaned in again, grabbing her chin, and kissed her hard.
“Stop it!” Audrey protested, struggling as the kiss fell on her hair.
Henley was determined, holding her tightly, his voice eerily soft.
“It might be uncomfortable here. It’s okay. I’ll try not to hurt you.”
He was mad! The image of Henley in Audrey’s mind shattered.
Audrey was furious.
“I’m not your girlfriend. Don’t make me call the police.”
Henley laughed derisively.
“You’re so naive, Audrey. No one can stop me.”
At that moment, Audrey sensed that Henley was going crazy Tears fell from Audrey’s eyes. She pleaded, “Henley, don’t do this.
I’ve always seen you as a friend, how can you treat me like this?”
“Audrey, I never wanted to be your friend. I want to be your man.
Don’t you understand?” Henley retorted.
Henley gently brushed Audrey’s tears away with his fingertips and said softly, “If I had known it was you, I would have come for you sooner. You mean so much to me, you know that?”
In the depths of Henley’s abysmal past, only Audrey had made him feel alive.
Audrey’s tears would not stop. Henley’s words were enigmatic and beyond his comprehension.
His thoughts wandered to the people outside. Thinking of them, he raised his voice and shouted as loud as he could, “Help! Help!”
Henley quickly covered her mouth, muffling her cries. Then, he let out a chilling laugh.
“No one will hear you. And if by any chance they do, they won’t intervene.”
In Audrey’s heart, despair took root.
Henley had planned it meticulously. In other words, it was a trap for Audrey.
Henley pressed her index finger against Audrey’s lips and whispered, “Be a good girl and give yourself to me. I promise I’ll be better than Cornell.”
Although he had not had sex with women before, he had learned several techniques after realizing that Audrey was the one for him, would take his feelings into account and was sure he would do nothing less than satisfactory.
But when Henley pressed her again, Audrey, in a panic, blurted out, “Henley, do you like me?”
With fire burning in her eyes, Henley resolutely replied, “I like you. I want all of you.”
Audrey sensed his unwavering determination, but tried to reason with him.
“If you really like me, you should respect me, not force me.”
Henley’s eyes darkened and he murmured, “Ever since I was a kid, the things I liked were always dismissed by others. Since then, I understand one thing. If you want something, you must do whatever it takes to have it.”
“It’s not like that,” countered Audrey.
“If you make me, I’ll hate you, do you want that?”
Henley paused and said quietly, “I don’t want you to hate me.”
Audrey seized the opportunity and continued, “I don’t like you. If you make me, I’ll hate you and wish you dead.”
