Filed to story: My Husband Regrets Divorcing Me (Audrey & Cornell)
His posture, confused expression and pleading eyes gave him a look that was pitiful and seductive at the same time.
Cornell’s eyes narrowed slightly.
The atmosphere in the car froze immediately.
Audrey was so embarrassed that she stood up quickly. He sat obediently and placed his hands on his lap.
As Matteo drove through the dark night, a stony silence reigned in the car.
Cornell didn’t say a word. He looked tired. He rested his forehead on his palm and closed his eyes to rest.
Although anxious, Audrey did not disturb his rest, so he could only endure it in silence.
Finally, the car stopped. When Audrey looked out the window, she discovered that they were in front of her apartment building.
Cornell did not open his eyes. He ordered Matteo, “Take her upstairs.”
Matteo nodded in response.
Audrey became even more anxious. He had waited because he believed he could help Nicole, not to take her home.
“Cornell…”
Cornell opened his eyes lazily and looked at her.
Thinking of the numerous rejections he had received tonight, Audrey said impulsively, “Would you like to come up for a cup of tea?”
Cornell didn’t refuse, so the two of them went upstairs together.
As soon as they entered the living room, Cornell sat down on the couch, leaned back lazily and crossed his legs. He rolled up his sleeves, exposing the well-defined muscles of his arms, and closed his eyes.
Audrey didn’t make tea. Instead, he went to the kitchen and made some soup to sober him up.
Then he carried a bowl into the living room, set it on the coffee table, and said quietly, “Cornell, I’ve made you some soup. Have some to ease your hangover.”
There were no chairs by the couch, so Audrey stood there.
She had already taken off her coat, and was now wearing a white cotton sweater and blue jeans, which accentuated her beautiful curves.
She was not wearing revealing attire. But looking at her, Cornell’s throat went dry for a few seconds.
His eyes narrowed slightly. He reached out, picked up the bowl and drank a spoonful of soup.
The warm liquid warmed his stomach and his furrowed brows relaxed greatly.
Audrey noticed the change in Cornell’s expression. He thought he was in a better mood now, so he said cautiously, “Can you help me set up an appointment with Jarrod?”
Although Cornell already knew her intention, he couldn’t help but feel annoyed to hear her speak so bluntly.
He pursed his lips, grabbed his coat and stood up.
When Audrey saw that she was about to leave, she grabbed his arm and asked anxiously, “Are you leaving?”
Cornell looked at her blankly.
“I’ve already finished the soup.”
“But… about Jarrod….” Audrey stammered.
Cornell’s brows furrowed sharply. He interrupted, “You want me to help you just because you gave me a bowl of soup?
Audrey pursed his lips.
“No. I don’t mean it that way. I “
Before he could finish his words, Cornell nonchalantly pulled a pile of money out of his pocket, slammed it against the small table, and said coldly, “I’ll pay for it.”
Audrey was stunned for a moment. She paled and tears welled up in her eyes.
Seeing her like that, Cornell’s heart was overwhelmed with frustration and annoyance.
He didn’t want to stay any longer, so he turned and headed for the door.
Audrey caught up with him. This time he could no longer hold back the tears, “Cornell, please help me. I’m really desperate now.”
The next moment, Cornell pulled her tightly and pressed her against the door.
Then he lowered his head and conquered her lips. They shared a passionate kiss.
Cornell’s eyes turned red. It was as if he had been repressing his desire for a long time. Their kiss became intense and fierce.
Audrey’s legs faltered and he struggled to keep his balance.
Cornell noticed and it pushed him to become more aggressive. He reached under her sweater, pushing her bra strap aside, and squeezed her breasts.
Audrey was startled by the stimulating sensation. His face paled even more. He pushed Cornell hard, creating some distance between them.
Cornell did not insist. Instead, he said mockingly, “You didn’t invite me here to sleep with you?”
Audrey frantically fixed her bra strap. He was trembling with rage.
“When did I ever say I wanted to sleep with you?”
The expression on her face now mirrored the defiance she had shown earlier when she confronted him about Henley.
When Cornell remembered that, the anger in his heart flared again.
Don’t you understand the implications of inviting a man in the middle of the night? Audrey, stop playing innocent.”
Audrey’s complexion turned ashen. He clenched his fists, shaking with anger.
Cornell, equally agitated, spoke in a harsh, cutting tone.
But seeing Audrey’s uncontrollable trembling, he regretted saying those harsh words.
He wondered how he had become so soft.
He had decided to distance himself from Audrey, but now he longed to embrace her, to offer her comfort.
Contemplating this, Cornell hesitantly raised his hands, wanting to embrace Audrey, but Audrey quickly evaded.
He looked up, his voice firm.
“Cornell, I don’t want to be intimate with you.”
Remembering that Cornell was about to marry Katie, Audrey refused to be the other woman in their relationship.
At her words, Cornell’s hands stopped and his expression darkened.
He shouldn’t turn so soft toward her.
Bang! With a loud bang, Cornell slammed the door shut, leaving a heavy silence.
Audrey, consumed with concern for Nicole, was overcome with anxiety and helplessness.
Tears rolled down her cheeks as she stood motionless.
What the hell was she supposed to do…..
After a restless night, Audrey got up early and visited Nicole’s parents at the hospital.
There he learned something important.
Jarrod’s fianc?e was injured and hospitalized, potentially related to Nicole’s situation.
However, Audrey was unable to ascertain the current location of Jarrod’s fianc?e.
Later that afternoon, in the midst of his confusion, Henley called.
Audrey answered, but silence fell between them.
Finally, Henley broke the silence.
“Audrey, how have you been lately?”
Audrey replied coolly, “I’m fine. I’ve transferred the medical expenses to your account.”
Henley paused and then sighed.
“Audrey, you know I’m not short of money.”
