“What did you talk about?” his father asked.
Brandon didn’t withhold any information from him.
After giving him a rundown of what had happened, he told him, “Tomorrow, I will go to Zellweger Castle for dinner, and then I will propose to Jolene.”
He Lost His Memories, Not His Mind
His father nodded.
Then, he asked, “Do you think Jolene is that person?”
After a moment of thought, Brandon answered, “I understand what you’re trying to say. You’re suggesting that it’s more likely to be Danika, right?”
“Don’t you think so?” his father asked.
“I think that Danika is better than Jolene in terms of ability, conduct, and connections.”
“I agree.”
Brandon didn’t refute his father’s statement.
“However, regardless of that, Jolene is the rightful daughter of the Zellwegers.Danika is an illegitimate daughter.”
Graham had not married Danika’s mother back then.
Even though they were in love, the Zellwegers did not acknowledge their relationship.
Therefore, Danika was not a proper daughter of the Zellwegers.
Jolene, however, was different. She was the daughter of Graham and Rowena.
Regardless of how bad the relationship between Graham and Rowena was, they were still married.
“That makes sense.”
His father agreed with his point of view.In a family like theirs, there were many illegitimate children. If they all had the same status as the legitimate child, it would be a mess.
After a while, Brandon’s father sighed, “That old fortune teller predicted many things, and they all came true.
My father trusted his words. He told me that if a member of the Britt family in your generation marries a daughter of the Zellweger family, then we will definitely become stronger.
Becoming the head of the Ten Elites would not even be a problem.”
That was the reason Brandon only had one mission: to marry the daughter of the Zellwegers.
They had set their sights on Jolene wholeheartedly, thinking that she was the one who could change their family.
Although she wasn’t particularly excellent in any aspect, they didn’t give up on her.
However, when Danika appeared, they couldn’t help but wonder if the daughter of the Zellwegers in question was Danika.
Nonetheless, they didn’t dare to take the risk as Danika was merely an illegitimate daughter.
“Don’t worry, I will definitely marry her.”
Brandon was confident. He knew very well that if he couldn’t do it, the Britt family might end up in the wrong hands. His father nodded.
“Go and rest.”
In a private villa on the outskirts of Bardoff City, a beautiful woman watched a man rise from his slumber.
A strange emotion flashed in her eyes, but she quickly composed herself. She walked toward him, asking, “How are you doing? Do you feel discomfort anywhere?”
“Who are you?”
Eustace stared at her, failing to remember who she was.
To be exact, he didn’t even remember who he was, and it terrified him.He felt as if he had forgotten something particularly important.
Seeing his pained expression, the woman snapped her fingers, saying, “You haven’t fully recovered yet, so don’t worry too much.”
Her words seemed to have some kind of magic.
Just like that, Eustace’s fear subsided, but he still had many questions.
“What happened to me?”
“Someone was trying to kill you, and I saved you,” she replied.
“Someone was trying to kill me?”
He didn’t know who he was, much less why he was hunted down.
With no intention of hiding anything from him, she handed over the information she had prepared in a folder.
“This folder contains all your information. You will know everything after reading it.”
Eustace took the folder from her and looked through the contents carefully.
After reading them, he frowned and asked, “How can I be sure all this information is true?”
While he had lost his memories, he had not lost his mind.
Amnesia May Not Be a Bad Thing
The woman didn’t care about Eustace’s distrust and thought it was normal. “You can check for yourself, but you have to wait until you’re feeling better,” she told him.
“I will,” Eustace replied.
After reading through all the materials, Eustace’s expression became solemn. The woman observed him silently, a smile playing at the corner of her mouth.
All the information she gave Eustace was true, and she even helped him discover why the Quinceys had targeted him, though she had altered some details.
“Is there something about a former wife in the information?” Eustace inquired when he saw the name Danika, his heart racing.
“Yes, her name is Danika, but you’ve been divorced for a long time,” the woman confirmed.
“Why did we get divorced?” Eustace asked, puzzled.
“You didn’t like her, after all. You were arranged to marry her by your grandfather, and there were no feelings at the time,” the woman explained candidly. She didn’t see a reason to hide that from him since the information was readily available. “But after the divorce, you became interested in her. Your behavior indicated you fell in love with her, but she didn’t reciprocate and found your persistent pursuit annoying.”
Eustace frowned. Had he pursued her? He didn’t think he was that kind of person.
The woman seemed to read his mind. “I’m not lying to you. We’ve known each other before your accident happened,” she said, handing him her business card.
Eustace took the card, and it read, “Blake Watkins, psychologist.”
Eustace was confused about why he was acquainted with a psychologist. “You’re a psychologist?”
Blake smiled and explained, “Your condition was already severe when I saw you. You stubbornly believed that Danika was your true love, so you followed her to Bardoff City when the Zellwegers called her back, giving up everything in Parrington. But even so, she didn’t want to reconcile with you. Your childhood experiences may be the reason for your behavior, as mentioned in the information you received.”
Eustace was taken aback. He couldn’t believe he had given up his career for a woman. That wasn’t like him at all.
When he remained silent, Blake continued, “Amnesia may not be a bad thing for you. The things that used to affect you seem to have no effect on you now.”
Although the information was all in the folder, the pain of recalling the memories was far worse than reading about it from a piece of paper.
“Why did the Quinceys want to kill me?” he asked, referring to the information. It stated that the person after him was sent by the Quinceys, but no reason was specified.
Seeing that Eustace stopped talking about Danika so quickly, Blake felt pleased. She had taken a liking to him and refused to allow anyone else a chance.
“Your grandfather probably didn’t tell you, but he left his family in Bardoff City many years ago, and the reason why he left is known only to him. Xavier, the eldest son of the Quinceys, was the one who was after you. He was supposed to take over the family, but for some reason, the head of the Quinceys called all the members back, announcing that anyone in the family could take over, based on ability, whether son or grandson. The current head of the Quinceys is your grandfather’s elder brother, and your grandfather probably didn’t want to fight with his brother, so he chose to leave Bardoff City and start his own career in Parrington.”
However, Old Mr. Quincey never imagined that Eustace would still be caught up in their family’s feud, despite his departure from Bardoff City.
I’ve Got My Eyes on You
Eustace was confused.
“Why would he suddenly make such a decision? w “I don’t know,” Blake replied.
“Maybe it’s because he feels guilty about what your grandfather did for him. Perhaps he’s trying to make up for it now?”
She didn’t know the real reason.
Perhaps giving Eustace the opportunity to compete among the Quincey family was a form of compensation, especially since the opportunity was rare.
However, Eustace didn’t think the head of the Quinceys in Bardoff City was so kind.It was likely that he was using him to sharpen the skills of the eldest sons and grandsons of the Quinceys.
They weren’t qualified to inherit the Quincey family if they couldn’t handle the challenge.
However, if they came out on top, it would show they were capable and worthy.
Naturally, the current head of the family would trust them to take over the reins.
As for an outsider like Eustace, could the Quinceys entrust themselves to him? Eustace’s eyes, however, shone brightly.
It was still an excellent opportunity.
