Jarrod grabbed her by the hair and pulled her head back to look at her, a mischievous smile on his lips.

“Take a good look at her, who are you serving?

A sickly blush colored Nicole’s face as her hatred surfaced. It excited him even more, making his blood boil.

Jarrod guessed Nicole had once played with his feelings and caused him pain. But here she was. Now she was at his mercy, causing him a sensation more arousing than intercourse itself.

The effect on his mind and body brought Jarrod to the peak of exhilaration.

After their intimate moments, Jarrod nonchalantly cleaned himself with mineral water. He saw that Nicole was looking at the remaining water.

Deliberately, he drank it all, denying her the opportunity to clean herself.

“Feel blessed to be surrounded by my scents. If you get horny, take my scents to comfort you.”

Nicole felt sick, overwhelmed by his lingering scent.

Jarrod covered Nicole with his jacket, his scent causing her to grimace.

Reluctantly, she pulled it on to cover herself.

Jarrod helped Nicole into the car.

As they drove through the night, Nicole’s heart sank.

“Where are we going? I need to go home.”

Jarrod’s reply pierced through her, “Let’s get rid of the bastard inside you!”.

“No! You can’t do this!” Nicole screamed.

But Jarrod ignored her, making a call to set everything up.

They quickly reached their destination, stopping the car.

Jarrod kept his cool, rolled down the window and lit a cigarette.

“It’s better if you go alone.”

Nicole felt gripped with fear.

“Jarrod, you can’t make me! He’s my son.”

“Your son?” Jarrod’s eyes darkened.

“I’m not going to force you.

Choose between the child and your father.”

Choose? Nicole’s face twisted in torment. She couldn’t give up on either of them.

Struggling to remain calm, her voice trembled, “Jarrod, please let me keep this baby. I have real cancer. My life is shutting down. I want my child to ease my parents’ agony after I die. Please take me for tests and you will see that I am seriously ill. We can try different treatments and consult several doctors. Then you will see the truth.”

Jarrod scoffed, his tone laden with disdain.

“I am impressed. Your affection for this baby seems deep. Even pretending you have cancer to keep it.”

Nicole shook her head, her eyes brimming with honesty.

“No, that’s not it, I haven’t lied to you!”.

“You know that man named Kieran?”. interrupted Jarrod impatiently.

“Yes, but…”

Before she could finish, Jarrod coldly interjected, “Was he your ex-boyfriend?”.

Nicole hesitated, then nodded.

“Yes, he was.”

A smirk crossed Jarrod’s face.

“Get out of the car right now!”

He was determined not to be fooled by her again; he wasn’t about to make a fool of himself.

Desperate, Nicole grabbed Jarrod’s arm.

“Listen to me. There was nothing between me and Kieran. This child can’t be his.”

Jarrod’s lips twisted into a scornful smile.

“If not his, then someone else’s. In any case, it’s an illegitimate child.”

The idea of an illegitimate child being born was unbearable to him, an insult to his dignity.

Just then, Alec had confirmed a disturbing truth.

That doctor had accepted money for a fake operation, linked to the Lawrence Group.

Nicole’s parents had confirmed that Nicole had only told them that she was suffering from a simple stomach ulcer.

Kieran, in fact Nicole’s ex-boyfriend, was often seen near Nicole’s house.

All the evidence seemed to point to Nicole’s infidelity, defying her desperate claims of innocence.

However, Nicole’s voice conveyed an unwavering sincerity.

“I have not lied to you, nor have I lied about my illness-what am I to gain by lying to you that I am at death’s door?”

Jarrod’s expression changed subtly at the mention of death, a hint of discomfort marked his features.

A fracture appeared on the icy exterior of his heart.

Images of Nicole’s passing haunted him: intense headaches, a chilling sweat, a fear he couldn’t explain.

But he quickly dismissed those thoughts. He didn’t think she was going to die so easily-how could that be possible?

Grabbing Nicole’s neck angrily, Jarrod issued a stern warning, “Remember, you need my permission to die. Otherwise, I’ll make sure your whole family joins you.”

Pain pierced Nicole’s heart.

She knew that even after his death, he would not spare his family.

What humanity was left when one was denied even the right to die?

She felt reduced to a mere puppet, a hollow being.

Summoning up her courage, Nicole uttered each word with difficulty, “What if I say the child is yours?”

Jarrod once dreamed of having a child with Nicole.

During their college romance, Nicole would often whisper to Jarrod, “Jarrod, I want to have your child!”.

Their bodies intermingled as they experienced passionate moments. But, as students, they lacked the money to raise a baby and start a family, so they took precautions and decided to wait until graduation.

But that day never came.

Years later, when Nicole told him she was pregnant with his child, Jarrod’s feelings changed. His excitement turned to contempt and bitterness.

He resented her for wanting that unborn child so badly. In her eyes, it couldn’t be his and had to be gotten rid of.

Jarrod held Nicole’s chin firmly and asked, “Nicole, I always made sure you were on emergency contraception. How the hell did you end up pregnant with my child?”

Nicole’s jaw ached under his grip. With tears in her eyes, she managed to say, “I threw up the pills a few times.

There were times when she couldn’t take the contraceptive because of an upset stomach.

She had mistaken it for simple indigestion, not realizing that it was stomach cancer.

“What a great excuse for your son!” scoffed Jarrod.

“Why throw up?

Were you that desperate to have my child?”

Nicole’s lips quivered. But before she could respond, Jarrod yanked her chin hard, slamming half of her face into the seat. His face showed no mercy.

“Don’t you ever mention that illegitimate son again. Even if he’s mine, I’ll get rid of him. Do you really think you deserve to have a son of mine?”
