I Just Wanted to Make Sure
Graham raised an eyebrow.He could sense Danika’s grim tone.
“What happened?”
“You wouldn’t have hurt Eustace, would you?”
She looked straight at Graham, not giving him a chance to escape.
Graham was stunned for a moment.He probably wasn’t expecting her to ask such a question.He was silent for a while before smiling bitterly, saying, “So, something has happened to Eustace, and now you’re suspecting me?” Danika said nothing.
Her silence was enough of an answer.
Graham felt bitter.
He had no idea how Danika viewed him, but one thing was for sure; she had placed absolutely no trust in him.
However, she was asking him this question outright.
Could she be giving him a chance?
“It was not my doing,” Graham said.
“Although I don’t wish for you to be together, I wouldn’t hurt him because of this.”
Most importantly, he didn’t want Danika to hate him.
For whatever reason, Danika’s guard instantly lowered when she heard Graham’s words.She believed him.
“I’m sorry.I just wanted to be sure.I didn’t want to suspect you,” Danika said awkwardly.
She knew it wasn’t nice of her to ask him a question like that, but she had no choice.
Graham smiled, brushing it aside.
“The fact that you can ask me about it plainly is proof of your trust in me.Maybe I haven’t been good enough to deserve your complete trust.But it’s alright.I understand.”
He was never a qualified father.
Graham understood it more than anyone else.He didn’t push the topic and asked, “What happened to Eustace? Why did you think it was me?”
There must have been a reason why Danika would suspect him.
Danika didn’t conceal anything from Graham.She briefly told him what had happened and said, “I suspect that it’s by someone in Bardoff City. That’s why I came to ask you about it.”
Eustace had not come in contact with many people in Bardoff City.It was pretty easy to investigate the few people with enough power to attack him.
“Your speculations are not unfounded.” Graham didn’t say much else.
“You should investigate the people who have had fights with him.”
“Yeah.I know.”
Danika nodded.
Now that she was sure it wasn’t Graham, her next step was to find out who Eustace had wronged in the past few days.
Graham saw how confident she was and knew she already had a list of suspects.
“Did you come to ask for my help?”
Danika was stunned and then amused.
“You guessed it.Right off the bat, too.”
“You’re my daughter, after all,” Graham said, smiling.
Danika did not retort.
Before coming to the Zellwegers, she did not care for her birth parents.
In fact, she felt a little repulsed by them.
She didn’t want to involve herself with them.
But now, after spending some time with Graham, she discovered that he was not as bad as she had thought.
She was even looking forward to getting to know her mother.
She didn’t know what sort of woman she would be.
But was her mother even still alive? Danika realized she was drifting off and snapped back to reality.
“I want you to help me investigate the Glasses.Find out about their recent movements or if they have any secret hideouts.”These were all things that Alfred could not find out.That was why she wanted
Graham’s help.
“Are you suspecting that the Glasses have brought him to Bardoff City?”
Graham frowned and shook his head.
“I don’t think that’s likely.If it were the Glasses, Eustace would probably be dead by now.”
Instantly, he regretted his words.
“That’s not what I meant.I…”
“It’s okay.What you’re saying makes sense.But what if?”
Danika smiled.She would not be angered because of a few words from Graham.
The Plan Must Go On
She wasn’t a fool.She knew that the Glasses would not be so cunning.
But what if? What if the Glasses thought that Danika and Eustace were close enough that they could kidnap him to threaten her? After all, everyone knew that Danika was the most likely to inherit the Zellwegers.
If they could make her give up the Zellwegers by threatening Eustace’s life, the Zellwegers would fall into Rowena’s and Jolene’s hands.
The more she thought about it, the likelier she thought it to be.
The Glasses may have had that in mind when they attacked Eustace.She made up her mind to investigate the Glasses thoroughly.
“The Glasses are not much weaker than the Zellwegers.I probably wouldn’t find anything out if I were to investigate them.It would be easy for such a huge family to hide someone,” Graham said slowly.
He wanted to urge Danika to give up, but he didn’t say it in the end.If he did, he would be very cruel.She was his daughter.
Although he disliked Eustace, he didn’t want her to be miserable.He might as well let her try.
Perhaps time was the remedy to cure all illnesses.
Danika was in no mood to think about all that.She considered things carefully.
“That makes sense.If someone were to investigate the Glasses, it would have to be…”
She paused for a moment, a mysterious glimmer shining in her eyes.Are we continuing with the plan?”
“Are you talking about taking down the Glasses?” Graham asked.
Danika nodded.
“Although Eustace can’t join us right now, with the Windsors, it shouldn’t be a problem.If not, I’ll convince one of the other elites to join us.It’ll benefit them in every way.No one would refuse.”
Graham could see Danika’s eagerness.She was probably afraid that something would happen to Eustace if things dragged on.He signed inwardly, but he said, “There shouldn’t be a need to.The Windsors are stronger than the Zellwegers and the Glasses.”
Everyone was a part of the Ten Elites, but there was a hierarchy among them.
The Glasses were weaker than the Zellwegers, but the Zellwegers were not as strong as the Windsors.
Meanwhile, the Britts were at the bottom of the chain, which was why Jolene could not be convinced.
“Who is the strongest elite?” Danika asked instinctively.
She hadn’t really discovered this before.
With no hesitation at all, Graham said, “The Quinceys.”
“The Quinceys?”
Because of Eustace, Danika was very responsive to this name.
“Yes.They have a history that spans hundreds of years.They have internal power issues, but that doesn’t affect their strength,” Graham said lightly.
His eyes looked ahead.
If he could bring the Zellwegers to a height comparable to the Quinceys, Danika would not be bullied by anyone.
Before Danika could ask more questions, Graham continued, “The Quinceys are in turmoil.They have not yet decided on an heir.Everyone in the Quincey family is fighting for it.The politics run deep.”
